How to Test and Replace EVAP Pressure Sensor P0450

  • In this video we explore how to test and replace the EVAP pressure sensor P0450. Trouble code p0450 deals with an improper voltage signal from the EVAP pressure sensor to the ECM. This could be due to a bad harness connector, the pressure sensor or the EVAP canister vent control valve. Check with your vehicle's repair manual for testing parameters. This specific vehicle is a 1997 Nissan Maxima.

    This sensor is used with a number of components in throughout the EVAP system. The EVAP control system pressure sensor is located in the purge line. The sensor detects pressure inside the purge line and modifies the voltage signal sent from the ECM. As the pressure increases the voltage rises. This sensor is used for on board diagnostics.
    P0450 - An improper voltage signal from EVAP control system pressure sensor is entered into the ECM.
    P0451 - Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor
    P0452 - Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Low Input
    P0453 - Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor High Input

    Do all of these units (for a ford f150) send the same signal for the same pressure to the computer? I have a 2004 ford f150 with a inline pressure transducer and Ford has them on back order. I found one for a Crown Vic from a later year that looks the same but for the connector. If it would work, how would I know which wire would go to which wire on the connector? Thanks for any help.

    Thanks for the video. When I check the pressure sensor does the ignition key have to turn the car to the on position but not start the car? Whats interesting is theres only two wires going to the sensor and your getting 3 volts not 5 when you test the pressure sensor.

    Thanks for the upload man! I just passed my smog test and certification with a PO450 code on my ZR2 Blazer.. Just letting people know because alot of disinfo on this code esp. in California. Some say you wont pass some say you might some say you can. I passed whew. My OBD II reading was evap P0450 no CEL ever illuminated. Changed my gas cap before I went into the shop. I did nothing but change the gas cap and my OBDII EVAP red light was still on and I did not fail the test.

    Good videos, very valuable information. I've had a P1440 (small EVAP leak) for a few months and have not found the problem yet. Changed the gas cap. Even smoke tested the system with no luck. However, during one of my inspections I discovered charcoal granules in the vacuum cut by-pass tubing close to the canister. Per Nissan Service bulletin NTB00-085a, I am planning to clean out all of the tubing once my new canister shows up. My guess is that some granules are preventing valves from fully closing or blocking the pressure sensor path which end up tripping the CEL. Fingers crossed.

    just came across your video. i'm testing the pressure sensor for a 2001 tacoma 3.4 liter engine. since the requirement for vacuum is so low and i don't have a vacuum pump, i decided just to suck on it (yeah, yeah...all jokes aside, i'm just making do with the tools i have) anyway, my voltage doesn't change one bit. do i need more vacuum than my mouth is making?

    I've had "EVAP system monitor incomplete" for at least 10 drive cycles. There have been no trouble codes, so apparently there are no vacuum leaks. If the tank pressure sensor was bad, wouldn't there be a trouble code? I've had the tank out a couple times already and really dread having to take it out again. If the sensor wire was open between the tank and the computer, wouldn't there also be a trouble code? Wait, it that was open then the sensor wire at the tank would read 5 volts, wouldn't it? I'm really stumped on this one, hoping you can help!

    I have a 1996 240sx, for the past 6 years it has been throwing the code p0446 (the vent valve). I have replaced every hose and the carbon canister and the vent valve itself. I tested the continuity of the wiring etc. Basically I did everything and no matter what, it keeps throwing that code. it's frustrating because I can't pass inspection with this code. I brought it to multiple mechanics and they each told me something different. I ended up buying a new ECU and re-wiring the whole thing and it still won't go away. Recently I was looking at the FSM for the 100000th time and noticed it mentioned the pressure control sensor might be responsible for causing this code to pop up under p0446. Any thoughts on this? I'm so frustrated that I just want to buy a new control pressure sensor as a hail Mary attempt but they're like $120. idk what to do man, I'm losing my mind haha

    The tests for 5v and ground are not valid with the connector unplugged, your circuit is not loaded. No current flow = no voltage drop.
    You could have high resistance In the circuit and still read 5v at your meter.
    When doing these kinds of tests your circuit has to be loaded.

    • @kermit80526
      @kermit80526 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Somewhat true, but still a valid test that most mechanics would perform. The voltage drop would be from the small current applied by your DMM. Yes it could be a weak connection and still give good results, but this is rare for lower power consumption circuits like a sensor.
