I have just gotten a Feddersen 18" bull barrel with a Bentz chamber. I went with a Bentz chamber rather than a full match chamber to allow wider ammo selection and not be restricted to match (read expensive) ammo. Keep up the good work. Much appreciated.
I shot a RPR for NRL22 for 2 seasons. We have 2...1 I left pretty stock (Timney trigger, arca rail, vortex diamondback tactical 6-24, aluminum tape bedding) for base class, and the other I sunk a bunch of money into (Lija barrel, trigger, different rail with arca cut, pst gen ii 5-25)...shot roughly the same score either way. 'Upgraded' to a Vudoo...and my scores were actually worse the first year because of constant mag issues. Finally got that all sorted out...and I'm still shooting about the same scores I was 4-5 years ago when I was running the RPR lol! Honestly, for as flimsy as the Ruger feels, they shoot well enough for everything we do in NRL22. I still have a BUNCH of discontinued fed gmm .22, and it shoots well enough in the less-modified RPR that the only thing holding me back each week is still ME. But the vudoo gets you more style points. My wife had the Tika T1x (?...the chassis model). She shoots it a heck of alot better than the ruger, vudoo, or CZ. My son loves the ruger. At our club we usually have 1 squad of shooters under 12 with a modified COF. Rifle stays setup with no/minimal movement or positional changes. My boy takes 90% of his shots either prone or off a tripod, even if there is an obsticle in the stage. He has a blast, and he's getting alot better everytime we go out.
I hope you haven't given up on this build. I havent seen a video on it in quite a while and I love the information you provide in them. Heading down pretty much the same path with a RPRR as a trainer for a 6.5 CM RPR that i have yet to acquire.
@@CopperStarPrecision Awesome! I have been building the same setup along with you for the most part as I went with a Arken SH4 G2 (kinda regret it also...) and a Tandemkross pro comp. Yeah, pretty happy with the results at the October match. I've got lots of modifications coming to my CZ for open class, but I'm glad I have the base class rifle set up as a backup.
New subscriber to your channel and now that the Chief's beat the Eagles in tonight's Superbowl, I'm going to watch several more of your .22 series videos. Really good content and well put together.
awesome channel. I stumbled on here when i was looking at the RPR. I assume your done with the series though. Looked awesome and i would have loved to see it to the end with you
I have a few videos of running base class with the Ruger at matches. I am transitioning this year to a new rifle, but the Ruger is still in the stable and I have some ideas for future projects with it. I'll be competing in nationals this year in Open class so that's where my attention is currently.
I've go a nearly identical setup - RPRR with a match-pro scope. It absolutely loves the Center X (.5-.6 MOA groups at 50), but it also shoots the CCI standard very well (.6-.8 MOA groups at 50). The centerX holds much better groups out at 100yards+ but at 50 yards or less the CCI standard has never been the reason I didn't hit a target.
I’m really surprised by your results. With mine, I achieved great accuracy with the same ammo you tried, with Center-X and SK Plus(yellow box) shooting the best groups. I did follow a break-in process(from Krieger Barrels) like I do with all my rifles. I’m still tinkering with my Ruger RPR at the moment.
@@CopperStarPrecision Yep! I clean mine after every range session. Sometimes just a dry cloth down the bore or complete cleaning depending on how many rounds.
Should be out in the next week or so. I have had good luck with them before, but there are only a few right ways to use a tuner and a lot of bad info out there.
Loving the series. I don't know if I would ever compete but the information has been great as I have been wanting to setup a 22lr precision gun. I had been wanting a Ruger for several years and going back and forth on caliber. More recently I see all the videos of the CZ, Bergara, Vudu setups but I love having a chassis and after watching your cost comparison and learning about Base entry level, I love the idea of the Ruger even if I am just plinking at my 100yd range.
All good choices, but I think for the value the Ruger wins out. Going for extreme accuracy will require finding that perfect ammo. I will say with the other rifles you will get a smoother action and better trigger, but mine on the Ruger has broken in well after 1000 rounds and triggers can always be replaced down the line (even as simple as a spring change gets you most of the way there). I plan on polishing my action up as well (will show in a future video). CZ offers some of their higher end models in a chassis, but you're talking near double the price of the Ruger which you could put towards ammo/accessories. It comes down to this: do you want to save money and have to do some work to the rifle to get it at its best and buy upgrades over time, or do you want something more expensive that is pretty well fitted out of the box? Thanks for sharing and best of luck.
I am new to the 22 precision rifle game. I just acquired a Ruger RPR a week ago and am looking forward to taking it to the range. If it shoots as good as my Ruger 10/22 Target Lite, I will be very pleased. Enjoyed your videos on the build on your rifle.Keep it up!
tried numerous lots, eley club, sport and action , sk rifle match but settled on cci standard, accurate out to 100m also eley action works well for a 40grn round. will see what happens when the arca rail and mdt weights(x4) go on.
Can you share a bit of info about the barrel tuning process you went through and its effect on the group sizes? Also which tuner did you end up using, and was there a selection process for that item? I really enjoy this series, thank you for putting this together.
I have owned my RPR since 2018 and have tested it all.... I'm currently shooting ARA with mine with good results. Try Some SK Semi-Auto.... I found it to work for me..... I also recomend keep the barrel clean.....
Great series for this rifle. I have one and plan for bench rest type shooting. Little too old for NRL shooting. Have you upgraded the barrel or do you plan on doing that?
Took my new RPR to the range today. It did not care for any of my subsonic ammo. Best 5 shot group at 100 yds was 1 1/2". I just happened to have a box of Eley Force with me. 42 gr HV ammo. It really liked it. Worst group was 3/4". Best was 5/8". I have several Lots of Force as my 10/22, with Feddersen barrel, likes it also. All I have done to the rifle is check the action screws torque and remove one spring from the trigger. More Lot testing soon if the wind behaves.
There was definitely a sort of break in period with mine. I ran 400 rounds of CCI SV through the barrel and then cleaned it before doing any serious lot testing. The first groups with that CCI SV were pretty bad, but it tightened up over time.
Not yet. There has been a lot of contention with tuners in the shooting sports world lately and I don't want to put out any misinformation. I still plan on making a tuning video, but it is a very in-depth topic that is taking a long time to research and get footage for. My thoughts are that a tuner can help in certain situations, but that money might be better spent on lot testing ammo for most people. My new Open class rifle does not have a tuner (due largely in part to its much thicker and stiffer barrel). The Ruger, with its thinner barrel can see some benefits from a tuner, but repeatability can be a challenge. Tuning videos will come, but I want to get all of my facts straight and do proper testing to give viewers a realistic expectation of what to expect.
You may wish to revisit CCI now that you have gotten that barrel broken in. Only a 16th to an 8th inch better at 50 yards with the higher dollar which I'm reluctant to spend twice as much for unless I am going to stretch things out to 100 or more.
I’ve subscribed and starting watching your channel because of this build exactly and I am trying to build mine as closely as possible. Can you tell me exactly what bipod you’re using for it. Thanks in advance. Would love to see more videos and follow review after months of shooting it.
Have you tried measuring rim thickness as part of your ammo work up? Takes a little time but it may help with the vertical spread in the SK red box ammo. I WOULD like to see you do a trip to Lapua. I hope you got that credit card ready to go.
I have heard of some success with thickness measuring/weighing rounds, but time is money so I think the better way to go is to try to find a more consistent lot. Most benchrest shooters do not sort, but the ammo they use (Eley Tenex/Laupa X-Act) is already very consistent, hence the high price. I think a trip to the testing center is in order when I run low on ammo. I'm going to try to tune out some of the variance in a future video so stay tuned!
Most of the hollow point 22LR ammunition is supersonic which poses a challenge when shooting the longer ranges where the bullet becomes unstable when traveling through the subsonic barrier. There are subsonics, but I haven't found any locally. I'll keep an eye out though. Thanks for the tip!

You can still have decent accuracy with super sonic ammo, but it will put you at a disadvantage for precision sports like NRL-22.
Currently working on setting up a base class NRL22 Rifle build. I started to source various 22LR ammo but could only find 1 box of Lapua Center-X ammo. Is there a site that you use to source quality match 22LR ammo?
Match ammo has been really hard to find lately. Killough Shooting Sports usually lets you buy by lot for Eley ammo, but both Match and Texex are out of stock. Even AmmoSeek isn't showing much Center-X in stock anywhere. My Local Store (Bruno's Shooters Supply) currently has 184 boxes of Eley Match EPS, unfortunately of the three lots they had in stock none worked in my rifle (not to say it wont work in yours). If you order a brick (10 boxes) you'll likely get the same lot number as they will be plastic wrapped together. There are also a good chunk of Wolf Match Target and Wolf Match Extra, typically not as good as the other brands, but you never know. They do ship so what you could do is order a box or two of a bunch of different types and then call them to see if they have more of the same lot that works in your rifle and then place a bigger order. Kind of a gamble, but that is the state of the world right now. I wouldn't discount 22LR pistol ammo. As long as you're not going supersonic pistol match ammo has the potential to give you similar accuracy. It's usually loaded to a different pressure and has a different bullet profile, but still will work in a bolt action rifle (may not cycle in all semi auto rifles). When you find something that works be prepared to buy as much as you can and stick with it. A tuner can help tighten the groups (video on that soon). Last option would be Lapua or Eley testing centers in the US. I'm confident they would find something that would work really well for your rifle, but that means shipping your barreled action (if you aren't local) and then being prepared to buy a case (5000 rounds) or multiple cases at a time. Best of luck.

I haven't done anything to the bolt yet (I will in future videos), just many many rounds downrange (1500 or so). It started smoothing out after 600-800 rounds.
