    Peru has the largest number of Chinese in Latin America. When the
    Chinese came to Peru, they used ingredients and spices that was found
    only in Peru to cook their food. As a result, 'Chifa,' or Chinese
    Peruvian food, was born

      Brasil nos supera en numeros absolutos pero no en porcentaje de descendientes. En Brasil Hay mas descendientes de japoneses y de coreanos, pero en el Peru hay mas descendientes de chinos.

      No estoy seguro que Wikipedia sea un medio muy preciso con las cifras , recuerda que cualquiera puede editar wikipedia.
      La cifra de asiaticos en el Peru que sale en wikipedia es muy alta. Hay dos tesis una que los descendientes de chinos son el 10 % de la poblacion osea aproximadamente 3 millones de peruanos y otra que dice que los descendientes de chinos son el 5 % de la poblacion , aproximadamente millon y medio de peruanos lo que me parece mas acertado, y descendientes de japoneses no pasan de 200 mil considerando que ya emigraron de retorno 70 mil japoneses y descendientes de japoneses a Japon y coreanos solo hay 2 o 3 mil en el Peru, tailandeses, filipinos, indonesios y otros asiaticos casi no hay asi que eso de 3 millones 670 mil es una cantidad antojadiza y en Brasil solo descendientes de japoneses hay mas de 2 millones asi que tampoco es muy acertada la cifra de asiaticos en Brasil.

    • @lucianapalomino8549
      @lucianapalomino8549 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      victor manuel en Brasil solo hay 200 mil chinos,por otro lado la Cifra de Japoneses en Perú es mas alta, porque si te fijas en el enlace de wikipedia que te di, hay esta Imagen
      upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/35/Affiche_%C3%A9migration_JP_au_BR-d%C3%A9b._XXe_s..jpg
      esto esta propaganda para inmigrar a Sudamérica estaba pegado en muchos lugares de Japón y claramente se ve como señalan solo 2 Países para inmigrar
      Brasil y Perú nadie mas..
      El hecho de tener a Keiko Fujimori en contienda presidencial, ha hecho que varios antifujimoristas Editen Wikipedia si te darás cuenta la pagina de
      Inmigración Japonesa en Perú, esta en una Discusión tremenda, porque quieren borrar rastro alguno de inmigración japonesa en Perú.
      Dato Curioso:
      Solo en You tube he visto mas Peruanos Japoneses TH-camr que Peruanos Chinos la verdad no conozco ninguno, siendo tan grande la poblacion china, pienso que la poblacion Japonesa, esta en 500mil personas en Perú.

      Los Chinos siguen llegando al Peru, en mis ultimas visitas a Lima, he observado en muchas ocasiones, ciudadanos Chinos hablando español con un fuerte acento, un indicador que son nuevos immigrantes.

    Haven't been to Peru but all of their produce is organic. So awesome. My Peruvian friend said that the best Chinese food he's eaten was there. Even though some of the items you chose look delicious,you ordered many items that few Chinese families eat on a normal basis but that's cool I like them too. I'm Chinese - Canadian and can tell the fried chicken and pork dishes look good.

      Wow!I watched another vid that shows that there are a lot of Chinese as % of population and they've been there for at least 200 years. They recently found 16 mummified Chinese people with Peruvian bodies and the site was 200 years old. 10,000 Chifa restos is a lot!

    'Chifa' doesn’t mean ‘to eat rice’. It comes from Cantonese 饎飯 ci3 faan6, which means ‘to cook rice’. By derivation, it can be used to mean ‘to cook/make a meal’.

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not sure because history tell that chinese people in Perú went to eat when they were called «chi»+«fan», not to cook.
      es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chifa

    • @hugotobi
      @hugotobi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are right. ‘Chifa’ doesn’t mean “to eat rice”. That’s the bad translation from word to word. The real meaning is “let’s eat”. Maybe it could mean something else. But there is a story of it. Back in the years in Lima, when Chinese people immigrated to Peru; they gathered among their own people in a restaurant for Chinese only. So when the cooker called to his folks to eat. (Just like your mom is calling when the food is served for dinner.) “Xi fan! Xi fan!” The locals heard the called. Some of the Peruvian people enter to the restaurant and tried the food. Therefore, he loved the food. So, more and more people tasted it. In conclusion, from the word ‘xi fan’ got shortened into to “chifa”. I know this story, because I’m Peruvian with second generation Chinese ascendant.

    • @sentientsimian
      @sentientsimian 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ralphalayo5849 : The Spanish entry is probably incorrect. Whoever wrote that most likely assumed that that directly derived from the Mandarin pinyin rendering of 吃飯, which does mean ' to eat rice' or 'to eat/have a meal'. However, those early waves of Chinese immigration to Perú came largely from Guangdong province in the South, where Cantonese is spoken; therefore, the reference to Mandarin pinyin to suggest etymology seems highly doubtful, since those exact same characters in Cantonese are read, hek faan.

    • @sentientsimian
      @sentientsimian 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hugotobi This might be more plausible. Chifa could be the Spanish rendering of 食飯, which in Cantonese today is sik faan, but back then, over a hundred years ago, most likely would have been shik faan. In the early 20th century, s and sh merged, as did c and ch, dz and dzh. Here, dzh, ch, and sh would be equivalent to or the same as j, q, and x in Mandarin. Not sure why when put through the filter of Andean Spanish, the finals -k and -n elided (disappeared).

    Chifa comes from a Cantonese word that sounds like "Chifan" and it means "to eat rice or to have a meal." ...at the time the owners of the restaurant were outside inviting people to try the food saying "Chifan" and Peruvians understood "Chifa". It is the mix of Cantonese techniques with local and Peruvian products adjusted for the Peruvian's taste.

      @@samuelandaudrey Not bad. This week has been the second week of my spring break from college. We got an extra week of spring break during the previously scheduled one week, probably to provide the university's staff extra time to make plans for their face-to-face classes being moved online, owing to the Coronavirus.
      Surely you have already noticed, I am not just willing to keep up-to-date with some of your NEW video guides. I also enjoy seeing several of your OLD videos, such as those you posted about your adventures in the British Isles and in Argentina in 2016, the year I graduated from high school.
      And I must confess, I have had feelings that I missed my senior year of high school. But I didn't even follow your channel until about a year ago, after watching your videos about pierogis and a traditional breakfast in Poland.

    you need to consider you were eating in MIRAFLORES wich is one of the most expensives places to eat, where all the "pitucos" go, so yeah that's maybe why. there are lots of chifas here, everywhere to be honest, and a wantan soup/fried wantan + meal (like chi jau kai) are like 8 soles in some places :)

    I love Chinese Food as well (I bet I said that too on your Japanese food trip video a few days ago huh, hahaha) bec its a great influence to the Filipino cuisine ( im from the Philippines) so all those dishes that u tried are all familiar to me. Have u tried Siomai? Its sorta similar to dumplings --- noodle outer coating with variations of pork or shrimp or crab meat inside. Try one if u havent, and let me know what u think ;) i love chinese food and i love u both! Happy travels ♥

      hola deberias probar la comida peruana , ya que los asiaticos ya sean chinos, japoneses y filipinos en la inmigracion de hace siglos usaron ingredientes que solo se encontraban aqui en peru y crearon platos con sabor distinto pero que se parecian mucho a los de su pais , por eso aca la comida sabe diferente, ojala algun dia puedas probar la comida peruana ya que es muy distinta en sabor

    hmmm... don't know if any other comments have said this already but the chifa in Miraflores is very similar to the Chinese I get in Sydney which has a huge Chinese population. It is not not representative of the Chifa you would get in the non-tourist neighbourhoods which is extremely different to what you got - So different that I really don't like Chifa in Peru (except in Miraflores).
