I always loved this segment of the show, but the woman with the parakeet apparently didn't give a crap about her parakeet. Sorry, but I've had birds for pets and what she did was careless. I hope the bird wasn't harmed.
In the USA they're known as parakeets. In Australia (and the rest of the world) they're called Budgerigars. However, they share the same scientific name, therefore their taxonomy is precisely the same.
