    We've been in Malaysia for 10 yrs and whenever we go back to our country we just had to go back asap because of the food. I love nasi lemak and roti tisu.

      @@AlwaysaFriday I would like my roti Chanai or rori telur to be "BANJIR".
      It is simple means mix the dal curry and the sambal together with the roti. it is heaven.....

    Roti telur is good but to get into the next level of goodness, tell them you want roti telur bawang. They will add onions. And tell them "garing sikit" means that you want it slightly crispy. Boommm...you will then enjoy the ultimate roti telur bawang.

    I really love the way you guys enjoying your food... I already had my breakfast but this makes me hungry again lol! My favorite is nasi lemak & roti canai. But if you guys are visiting the East Coast (either Terengganu or Kelantan) make sure you try nasi dagang. That's my absolute favorite breakfast dish. Basically, it's steamed rice (mixed of regular rice & sticky rice cooked in coconut milk, ginger & little bit of fenugreek, eaten with tuna curry & pickled cucumber. Yum... I can eat it everyday...😋

    • @AlwaysaFriday

      Nasi Daging sounds soooo good! Thanks for watching!

    • @nuriwerd
      @nuriwerd 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always a Friday it's nasi dagang not nasi daging or you'll end end up with rice with a side of meat. (BTW, daging means meat/beef, whereas dagang means trade/merchant). Dunno y the name's nasi dagang tho.

  • @putrawk

    Awesome Video! Nasi Lemak and the roties are pretty much the staple breakfast meal for us Malaysians. If you like roti, you should try Roti tisu (pronounced as tissue). Some places, its rather small but I really like the ones at Kayu Nasi Kandar in SS2 PJ. Its huge and they have to use two plates for it. It is rather light (and thin roti), so dont get intimidated by the size. Another great breakfast meal is nasi kerabu. It is actually rice cooked in some sort of plants or flower (haha, i dont know, Im not a chef!), so it is blue in colour normally. You eat the rice with some dry fresh vegs, some sort of powder and sambal and meat (or chicken or fish). The best place for this is to go to Kampung Baru. In fact, you can get almost anything Malaysia, there in Kampung Baru. Enjoy the food!

    Wow its pretty cool that u guys are staying near TTDI, it's a very local non touristy residential area :) you'd get to see/experience how the locals live. Btw you could always request for a less sugary teh tarik , just tell them you want it "kurang manis" which means "less sweet"

    One may control the sugar content in teh tarik, or any Malaysian restaurant beverage for that matter, in three different ways:
    1. Just say teh tarik (or name of the beverage) if you prefer "normal" sugar content
    2. If you say teh tarik kurang manis (literally teh tarik less sweet) they will put in only half the "normal" sugar
    3. If you say teh tarik tidak ada gula (teh tarik no sugar) they will not load in any sugar at all.
    If the waiter can understand you that is, because practically all mamak restaurants in Malaysia are staffed by migrant workers from India or Bangladesh with varying proficiency in Malay and none in English.

      Missing_Link teh tarik ''kosong'' for no sugar is the vernacular.

    • @ferozchendana3961
      @ferozchendana3961 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no sugar used in the tarik but only condense milk. But you can use the term missing link gave in when ordering. Maybe next trip you try to order teh chump. It is a mix of teh and coffee. and it taste sooo good.
      you can also order nescafe mix with milo. it simple become mocha coffee.
      love you video especially when you comment how it is taste to the level of its ingredient.....that is amazing

    One way of eating all these roti is "banjir" = flooded eg Roti Canai Banjir or Roti Telur Banjir. The curries are poured directly onto the roti and made it soggy within the curries.

    For nasi lemak bungkus, usually comes w/o cucumber inside coz it will make the rice spoilt faster coz of the moisture i believe.
    Anyway, try roti sardin. My favorite.

    My favourite breakfast if go to mamak is Thosai and teh tarik kurang manis ( 'kurang manis' means 'less sweet' in English )... The thosai has coconut dip for dipping the thosai which is absolutely delicious yum ! yum ! Btw , there is also the onion version of that roti telur which is called roti telur bawang ( bawang means onion ) , it is more flavourful than the plain roti telur ..

    • @AlwaysaFriday

    Hey man welcome to Malaysia! :D Actually, the best food here comes from the street. Small stalls around villages, or even a single tabled stall by the street. The point is you need to ask around and go around Malaysia. Some parts of Malaysia make a sweeter type of dishes and some parts make it spicier and there are a lot of local specialties within every states. Make sure it is kampung style thou! Have a good one guys :)

    The best nasi lemak always wrap in banana leaves when the rice are still hot and steamy, that will gives out the aroma of coconut milk and banana leaves infused. Southern malaysia sambal they dont like sweetness at all, northern style like to put a little bit of sweetness, but watch out for north eastern style..... everything - they add sugar!!!

    Very informative vlog guys. I have a quick question, when you say it cost 3 pounds for breakfast were you talking for each person or for the two of you? We'll be visiting KL for 18 days in November and I'm trying to figure budgets etc so your reply will be very helpful.

      Thanks guys, it was £3 for both of us! And to be honest we usually only spend £2 for both of us max. Malaysia is super reasonable and cheap, we went to pizza hut last night and it was only £7 each for drinks and a pizza each!

    Love your video. My husband and I are going to KL for holiday in March. Just wondered how you traveled between food stalls and your accommodation. You rented a car or Uber/Grab? Was told Msian traffic can be dangerous with hit &runs, biker gangs robbing people, and taxis ripping tourist off. Also you were waving a special card to pay is it similar to an Oyster card or is it just how your credit card looks like. Would appreciate any tips you have. Thanks

    • @AlwaysaFriday
      @AlwaysaFriday  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We used Uber/Grab almost exclusively to get around, it was so cheap and the drivers were always great. Never witnessed any 'Biker Gangs' in Malaysia, it was one of the safest countries we've been to. And in regards to special card, just my contactless credit card I think. My tips would be to try as much food as possible, us uber/grab to get around, and have a great time, we loved KL, it's one of the easiest cities, you'll love it!

    • @rooivaalk
      @rooivaalk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We'll use Uber/Grab as you said. A friend of mine who's recently currently living there was robbed via these 'Biker Gangs' but it was late at night though. I guess we just have to be aware of our surroundings and use common sense. Cant wait to eat all the different food! YAY!! Thanks again for your tips! =)
