German Twisted Cast On Tutorial

  • This tutorial shows how to work the German Twisted Cast On. The German Twisted Cast On creates a neat, flexible edge perfect for whenever you want plenty of stretch in your knitting. It is similar to the long-tail cast-on, but it includes an extra twist that gives it greater elasticity. I love it for sweater necklines, and it is perfect for other areas where you want a lot of give - such as the beginning of socks, mittens, or bottom-up sweaters. The German Twisted Cast On is also called the Old Norwegian Cast On

    This is the best tutorial I have seen for the German Cast On. I was having trouble with that 4th step. Thank you so much Jessica

    Thank you, Jessica. I’ve tried learning this with several videos, and yours was the only one that made sense to me. 💖🙂

    Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. You show very clearly what needs to be done, so I'm really looking forward to try it myself and cast on blizzard. It will be my first sweater ever and I'm very excited, but I have to try and get gauge first. 😉

    Thank you for this perfectly explained tutorial. I am left handed but knit right handed English, so I always feel a bit displaced when I attempt these things. There is going to be a new baby in the family and baby/children necklines always make me smile, my son was squeeeeezed into some really rather tight neck openings oh so many moons ago. I am not really looking forward to using this....but I most certainly will. Thanks.

      Babies have such large heads and necklines don't always have enough stretch! It sounds like the new baby is going to get lots of wonderful sweaters.

    Your tutorial is excellent! I struggled until I saw your suggestion about bending your left thumb. So easy and fun!

    Love that you explain it slowly and clearly several times over while showing the hand movements. I have tried to follow video before of this method but have never been able to get it right due to not being able to see the last step of bringing needle back between. Thank you so much. I came across your videos because I just downloaded the Blizzard sweater.

    I've been stalling on casting on for a little summer top because it called for this technique and I hadn't figured it out. After watching your instructions, I'm on my way. Thanks!!

    Thanks for this - it;s really clear. I have noticed, however, that the stitches are mounted backwards after this cast on (or how I do it?). Is it then just a matter of choice whether one knits the first row/round with twisted stitches or not? Thanks!

      Or is that the point of this cast on? Just suddenly thought I might be missing the essential point (haha). Anyway, I really appreciate the elbow metric - it works really well.

    Would this be a good cast on for top down socks?

    • @JessicaMcDonaldKnits
      @JessicaMcDonaldKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! It would be perfect for top down socks. I also really like it for mitten cuffs.

    I’ve never done the German long tail cast on. Is is stretchier than the regular long tail cast on? Great teaching!
