  • Do you want to learn the Cast On that doesn't curl, that is elastic but firm? Do you want to learn how to seamlessly join it for work in the round?
    This video is for you!
    Hello and welcome!
    In this video, I will teach you German Twisted Cast On. This is my preferred method of casting on because it creates an elastic but firm edge. It will be great for socks, mittens, gloves, cowls, shawls, sweaters, etc.
    This method has many names - Twisted German Cast On, Elastic Cast On, Elastic Long-Tail Cast On, Old Norwegian Cast On, Old Norwegian Sock Cast On, English Cast On, Twisted Half-Hitch Cast On, and Twisted Loop Cast On.
    Remember to cast on one additional stitch to what is in the pattern to be able to seamlessly join the work in the round.
    Needles in the video:
    ‪@chiaogoo2390‬ Shorties blue set
    ‪@goldtipneedles9960‬ Gold Neeldes Set
    Stitch markers:
    ‪@ridiculouslycute‬ you can find these on ETSY in the Ridiculously Cute shop.
    THANK YOU FOR WATCHING!

    This is the third video I watched but it’s the first one that clearly shows where you pull the last yo through. Now I have it! Thank you

    So clear! I've watched a few other videos about this cast on, but only yours showed clearly how to do that last ducking-under motion to place the new stitch on the needle so it can be tightened. Thanks!
    My tip: When I'm casting on, I place a marker every 10 stitches. I just need to count to 10 over and over again, making it much easier to not lose my place, and it's easy to check how many I have by quickly counting the groups of 10. I remove the markers while knitting the first row.

    It suddenly dawned on me cry so many of these dog breed and dug training videos say that mental stimulus, food puzzles, and games can wear your dog out just as much as a long long walk or exercise can. They say it's too expanded energy so they won't be troublesome. Well, my eyes and mind are doing mental calisthenics right now, following this cast-on tutorial. I am growing tired and just know I'll behave the house and not chew up the furniture or master's shoes. I'll sleep well, and have twisted dreams of rabbits...snared in this cast-on. Food for thought. lol.

    Perfect! I saw two English women demonstrate this technique many years ago and I had forgotten. Your demonstration and voice helped tremendously.

    Excellent demonstration. I use this cast on, but I have never cast on the extra stitch. I will be adding this to my bag of tricks. Will talk about it on my next podcast. If you have an easy way to do the pin hole cast on that would be amazing. Thanks Lena. ❤

      Well I believe I do have my new way , easier way to do the pinhole cast on. I will definitely put in on the list of all the technical videos I plan to record this or next month. I do not use it often but let me record it and see what you think about 😬

    I just learned this technique but not the part where you bring the yarn through the little triangle to complete the stitch! What I’m wondering: if you add one stitch, does it disappear in the join or do you always have an extra stitch to think about in the pattern?

    • @Janeiac
      @Janeiac 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      She shows you in the video what to do (pass a stitch over) so you do not have an extra stitch. You need to watch it again.

  • @elainemcnamee3953

    can I use this cast on when doing magic loop? I'm wondering how the joining will work if not working on needles but cord when must join . Thank you

    • @purLZknitting
      @purLZknitting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you absolutely can! I do it. it's not as easy and straight forward, but when you have your stitches cast on on two needles and ready to join work for Magic Loop, just pull the cable from the right needle between first two stitches on the right needle, creating a magic loop effect on the right needle with the first stitch and only stitch on the right needle tip and the rest on the cable at the back of the work. then, transfer this stitch from the right needle onto the left and pass the second stitch on the left needle over the first. slip the first stitch on the left needle onto the right needle. Tada! Seamlessly joined!

    If using German twisted cast on, can that be used when knitting straight back and forth ? sometime there is always a bigger stitch at the end' Thank you

    • @purLZknitting
      @purLZknitting  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! YES IT CAN! What you need is a good technique of edge stitches. You will have to play with it, you can twist the last stitch and tighten it up a bit. same with the first stitch when you come to it. You can also use a DISTITCH method for the edge stitches and they will come out very even. Assia Brill is the inventor and she has a lot of good videos on this technique. Look up a few videos here on TH-cam for the edge stitches. I will try to record mine in the near future.
