    omg…THANK YOU…THANK YOU… I’ve knitted 5 scandinavian/norwegian sweaters using 3 colors, and this is the first time Ive understood how to position and hold the three yarns. Good bye tension issues!!! thank you! Laurel in California

    I've been knitting since I was 7 yrs old. So for 61 yrs! My first color work was at 14 yrs old, flat knitting (which means purling in color work). Back then there wasn't any patterns for circular knitting. Then the following year I did 3 colors, also flat knitting. I didn't think it was difficult as that was just the way the patterns were written. I now knit most of my sweaters in the round.

    This video was just what I needed. I am beginning a colour work pullover and realized there are rows with three colours in them. I have never worked with more than two before. Thank you so much for your clear explanation and showing me how to do it. I need visuals for knitting.

    Thank you for this helpful visual explanation. I’m knitting my first color work cowl with three colors and didn’t think of color dominance! It will be a good starter project to see what I need to improve upon. Practice makes perfect!

    That's the best video about 3 stranded knitting I've seen so far. Thanks a lot

    This was very well presented. Thank you. I have not yet tried knitting Fair Isle with three colours but this makes sense. I just learned how to knit with two colours holding them in my left hand as I am also. Continental knitter. That works reasonably well for me, but I think I might adopt your style if I were to use three.

    Such a beautiful colourwork yoke! I tried colourwork with three colours last year when I made a pair of Foxtales Socks by The Petite Knitter. It was tricky for the first few rows but then quickly got easier. I then made the Foxtales Sweater and it has four colours in some rows! Suddenly doing colourwork with 3 colours in one row was so easy 😂 I really like having a project like this which is a little bit more challenging and forces me to slow down.

      Thank you! It sounds like you really love colorwork! The challenge of a more difficult knitting project is really enjoyable. Its so nice to just lose yourself in the pattern.

    You're absolutely AMAZING at teaching, Jessica! I've fantasize about knitting colorwork (fairisle?) for a couple years now. I'm still building on my intermediate beginner's skills, but feeling more confident to try this soon.

    Very helpful, thank you! I'm a thrower, so I have to work the main color in my right and the 2 other colors in my left, but your set up & technique totally helped me!! Thanks again!!

    Thank you so much for this video. I came to use your technique through much trial and error so it is good to see that I finally came to a good technique. I still have some challenges when it comes to catching the floats so if you have a technique for that, I would love to see that video.

    This is Fair Isle. I would like to see what the back looks like. By the way, its absolutely beautiful. So your knitting style is now mixed continental and lever and it makes perfect sense to bring the yarn over the needles from the direction in which the yarn lies ... fantastic tutorial, thank you. BTW I have never tried Fair Isle but I am getting very interested

    Thank you for this video! I am currently working on the Wildhorse cardigan and my next will be one of your color work patterns. Looking forward to your book when it is ready. One question, do you ever catch floats and how many stitches are you comfortable carrying floats without doing anything extra? Love your videos! Thank you!

    Great tutorial!!! I think I need to just stop catching floats when I do 3 colors and then they won’t get tangled lol

    • @JessicaMcDonaldKnits
      @JessicaMcDonaldKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Stop catching those floats! It can also mess up your tension when you catch the floats. Plus, it's a lot easier not to.

    Thank you!!! I do only two colours for the moment, as a beginner in fair isle, and was in awe of 3 colours. Now it seems more manageable 😅!
    In two colours, I struggle quite a bit with catching the floats as I go. In the video, it seems you don’t catch the floats? Are they naturally caught by the third yarn or it just doesn’t matter?

      Hi Gorie, I already have a tutorial on how to do the German Twisted cast on and plan to add more cast on tutorials in the future. I have lots of sweater patterns that will be perfect for your little boys! I'll put a link to the children's sweater section of my website here so that you can see them all.

      Hi Jessica, I came across this video as I’m learning to use Charts and colors. My question is this: I have the correct number of stitches on my circular needle but for some reason I never end with the pattern the same before I start next row? I’m usually 1 or 2 off and I’m frustrated that it doesn’t work? What am I doing wrong? I only have to do 9 rows 3 rows of pattern in same color then 3 rows in contrast, then back to 1st row color for 3 more rows. No increases or decreases so my pattern starts out great but at end won’t match up to beginning of pattern? Also I love this sweater may I please have the link for it? Thank you.

    What happens when there is really long floats between a couple colors? Do you fasten them off like usual.

    Doesn’t it bother anyone to have those **** long floats on the inside? I like the method to keep the 3 yarns untangled, but I hate floats longer than 3 or 4 stitches. Any advice?

    Can this be done with just throwing, I don’t do continental

    • @JessicaMcDonaldKnits
      @JessicaMcDonaldKnits  ปีที่แล้ว

      You could do it with throwing. You’ll just need to drop and pick up the colors as you work.
