- UPDATE: To address comments about Sergey's poor delivery, I want to emphasize that this is NOT a "TED Talk", despite it being recorded during TED conference. It is pretty much a spontaneous appearance to show the latest technology and wasn't prepared or rehearsed. Google Glass is also not available for purchase yet so it is not strictly speaking a product promotion either. This video is posted mostly because it has details about Glass that were unknown or unconfirmed before.

Segey Brin is a pure Genius. He wrote the first Google search algorithm when he was 18.
yeah
Larry wrote it note sergey
Steve Jobs was passionate about the products that his company built.I don't find sergey being slightly passionate about it. He might be ,but its necessary to display that when you go public.
i hope that everyone reading these negative comments feels overwhelmed
Wow so many haters. I think Google Glasses are cool and I can't wait to get a pair. I also think Mr. Brin is very cute and dresses well.
Quit being haters life is short wear and do what makes you happy people.
Watching this with Google Glass.
xD
quite impressive work done by google. will certenly try one myself.
Right on Sergey. Get our heads up again and experiencing the world!
I can't wait to get one! Seems very futuristic
this is boring as hell
all the things that make you rich are boring, it's for that reason that few people are rich
I prefer it than ION, waaaaaaaaaaaay better than EON
@@user-mo1bo6tz9x exception entertainers
needs google haircut :D
I would have never realised that. Thanks for telling me, man.
Can't wait to see the apps that come out for this things.
Enterprise!
this guy has 30 billion dollars? one of the most boring, uncharismatic, non charming human iv ever seen
Alex Endr All that might be true, but being exciting, charismatic and charming isn't what made him rich. Being damn good with computers did.
loljk233 good point still.. take away his computing skills what is he left with ?
Take away Patos or any other footballers skills and what are they left with? You can say this about any talented person in the world. I am sure many of them have other qualities.
+Alex Endr take away your stupidity and what are you left with? exciting, charismatic and charming dont make you a rich guy, they only ensure that you be a good male hooker.
It's hard to be excited about this product with such a dull presentation. You're waffling man.
Showing off interesting and innovative technology has always been one of the many cores of TED, despite Google being a company, this talk still shows a great deal about the next generation of communication and innovation, and I'm glad they added it.
love the fact that you need a disclaimer for his poor delivery. my fav quote was "it's been really important to make it comfortable" how did they get so successful.
I see you know a lot more details about background processes and details, thanks for letting me know
I read on wikipedia that Sergei Brin is from the East Coast.
Read the description; this was completely impromptu; he just rocked up there and talked! What a boss!
Read the video description regarding his speech.
Thanks.
the system is mountable to any set of glasses, prescription or not. from that you simply tell the glass system what number it has to adjust to, such as -5 or 10, whatever it may be. it will adjust by magnifying the optics so you can read, and will have a fail safe so even if they dye and you have them on they we remain at that magnification level.
What a lack luster presentation for such an awesome product.
One time I got a nervous tic and it was painful: physically painful.
I've been in the personal computing biz for 37 years, and I'm not a worshiper of technical achievers. But these two guys (Brin and Page) have consistently found a way to realize the organic necessities for creating a humane and intuitively coherent global network. Google search, earth, mail, TH-cam, and now glass have been driven by their desire to do it right rather than 'rich', and we are exponentially better off as a result. Two rare birds in an industry driven mostly by greed and ego.
I think everyone kind of forgets about google glass but now that i think of it there's really only one constraint, now that the form factor, camera, and display are probably all stunning. Its how do you communicate with Glass? Assumedly, you communicate through silent speech.
But then, how does whatever data is read can translated into the display and the sound? Assumedly, this is a nontrivial problem of both snipping information from the web as well as compiling entirely unique snippets of information. That seems incredibly difficult to do while maintaining the clean, reliable design we all know Google for, especially in a responsive way from data that itself must be interpreted and translated. If it works, Glass will be transormative and its kind of cool the world forgot about it.
Apparently, Google doesn't allow any ads on the google glasses
9;54am, I guess its about time we took a look
That problem should be fixed when the product actually comes out. They said that they should have a version of it that you can attach to prescription glasses' frames.
It's a HUD similar to how you see in many aircraft so you can obviously see through and while driving it's useful because instead of looking down you can have your directions pointed to you.
We live in exciting times.
Yes, I have the emotional stability of a lil'girl ... The Google Glass video brought me to tears. The future always does.
Lovely little introductory video, but there is much more to life than just hyper-active engagement with the Universe with a whiz-bang soundtrack. But, who would want that?
The things that scares me are the electromagnetic waves that would always be so close to our heads
I agree with you that it's less distracting when you're "actually using" it vs. a cellphone, but when idle, your phone would be stashed away in your pocket, while this is always right there at the corner of your eye!
I guess we have to wait and see how it'll fair in practical daily situations.
That was pretty cool of Mr. Brin to speak to the audience about Glass without having the chance to prep for it. That's about the last place I'd want to speak publicly when I'm unprepared. He definitely has a brain that belongs in that room though.
thanks, i was unaware. :)
I'm sure you can silence it and have the superimposed screen turned off unless you tell it otherwise.
Still less distracting than having to take your phone out, press a key, slide your finger across the screen and look down for seconds to minutes at a time.
amazing talk
If it doesn't already exist, I think some company should release a clip-on system the could attach to prescription glasses. I think the required hardware can be made small enough.
Hands down the first APP to be made for Glasses,
That was so amazing and I love it!!!!
I'm going to wait for version 2 or 3, hopefully by then there'll be a display that is projected on to the entire lens, it can be attached to my own glasses, and it'll have eye tracking.
Heard of adblock? Havent seen a single ad for months.
they are actually working on developing prescription google glass
But I still need to learn how to use my camera from about 5 or 10 years ago....even if I have taken some pictures I haven't printed any out.
these would be so good to use during school
Hey guys, look at the description "this is NOT a TED talk".
Also want to add that these glasses could really improve their lives for the better. I hope someone reads this post.
That's so cool. I hope that they aren't too expensive.
you know, he is reading all his speech from that glass. makes everything easier:)
This will be a dream come true for sci-fi nerds like me.
While there is many great uses for this concept and product, I just couldn't get how this is supposed to be "less distracting" than a cellphone?
It's right up there in your eyesight all the time!
well, from what I've seen, it doesn't have a built in network connection, you have to tether it to your phone, so any shady business would be uncovered pretty quickly.
I see a future where people are walking into best buy, they look around the store and everything has a red, yellow or green icon on them showing if the person wearing glass can afford to buy those products (kinda like in a game), given the savings and the income that they have programmed into glass..... I see so many possibilities for the future
um uh you know
I respect how smart and brave this guy is for following his dreams and creating amazing technology. I find it unfortunate that he seemed uninterested in speaking at TED OR he's not a great public speaker. In either scenario, placing someone who can articulate this vision in a more compelling way, would've maybe been a better idea.
This is just like what happened when cell phones all started to have cameras placed in them and the smartphones flooded the market. People were freaking out about how no one will have privacy and will be recorded all the time or such. There is already a camera in just about every place you travel. There will be rules passed by places banning these things from certain places like locker rooms and such where cell phones are already not allowed for camera issues.
It's not up there all the time, you probably only see a little digital time clock everything else is controlled by voice and eye position. And since your eyes have to focus on the glass to see it most of the time you only see a little smudge on the upper corner
Imagine having this on an exam super cool
I wish I could add my prescriptions to the Google Glass frame.
There were lots of interesting people in town today.
It was recorded in a high resolution, obviously. But since this video was not posted on youtube by the official TED talks channel, the uploader does not care about image quality.
And it probably will not be uploaded to the official channel either, because it is not a scheduled talk, but it appeared "out of the blue".
Not nervous at all - he seems pretty relaxed to me. This is the way he talks and I like it :)
Did you listen to what Sirgey said? 11:50 its not there all the time.
Didnt they come out with this on Futurama?
This Should Be used in the Up coming series of The amazing Race To test it Capabilities
This is the first generation of this technology, I expect in 1-2 years this will be incorporated with prescription glasses
Finally a way make your own POV pr0n videos hands-free
Has that distinct "mad scientist" feel.
plus, the speaker is not in the ear, it is against your head. you are not supposed to hear it with your ears. He said that, if you want to hear it better, than cover your ear.
on the presentation!! it's honest, with some deep thoughts on the matter! BEATS any marketing speech. I wasn't expecting that !.....GOOD!
I hope this can get to Accel World level
also, for people who are saying this is going to not work, my whole company is getting google glass, and many others are too
ok glass, when will you teach me to go super saiyan?
Sceptical at first now I love it :D
Dude he created this
you should watch this show called "Black Mirror" it's a british show about the future and every episode is a different independent story that deals with different concepts
The world isnt ready
"touchless phones?... is that we are meant to be doing with our body ?!" visionary question!
Today I worked out my gym for 10 minutes on the stationary bike..I didn't have any success before losing weight on stationary bikes but now that I have gained 100 lbs and I weigh more it is easier to sit down while I exercise.
How? it hasn't even come out yet.
When are google contact lenses coming out?
Read the description first.
can i put sight glasses on the google glasses?
What I want to know is: How long until I can write my book while going on walks?
Studied Latin, Greek, and French in High School.....wanted to study Chinese, Euroepean History, and Russian in High School but I thought that since I was already taking Latin, Electronics, Physics, French III and Honors English and studied at National Institutes of Health and Library of Congress as well as McKeldin Library in University of Maryland that I should not delve into Russian or Chinese...but studied it anyway later on on a "breadth" level.
They need to make them look like regular glasses. With a lens on each side.
It looks as if he just got up from his bed and arrived at the TED centre to give the presentation.
urm hello? you can buy lenses with them? and attach them...
when will this be availaible at walmart?
These glasses are like the first official machine extensions to our body. I'm going to love these... they will make life so much more full, I think.
I will probably have to wait till it comes out and someone sells it on EBay
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT
"Professor, these are prescription glasses. I need them to write my exam" :P
werd. this bldg i lived in had a cell tower on roof. it had a huge sign that said "do not stand within 5 ft or risk severe burn" or something like that. but to your point, a tiny concentration of cell waves next to your temple can not be good for anyone.
the most casual dude
Brin was so shy :)
I'm surprised that apple hasn't thought of this idea before google
Is that footage of him saying "TED says...we want it soon" online somewhere? That would be cool to see ;P
when will this coming out!!
they have frames that connect to the frames of the glasses! :-)
