When he said the second wave of the Spanish flu killed *everyone* who contracted it, I thought, "This may be the perfect bioweapon." First, you engineer it in the lab. Then you make a vaccine and vaccinate everyone in your own country. Then you unleash it on your least favorite enemy. Not advocating that, but it is something that even a small and poor country could potentially do.

My son graduated with 29K in debt from Cal Poly. He started work 6 weeks later. He works in machine learning for a defense contractor. Drone program. He paid off his loan in 6 months.

Hordes of cheap workers from east of Europe and other parts of the world do most of the hard, low level work, but they do not always settle, but instead move to where they can find work. In the other end of the scale you find that you need a bachelor degree to even work in a kinder garden in some areas. This creates an ENORMOUS pressure on the youth who can no longer expect to survive with a low level job.
Truth is, you don't NEED a large number of highly educated people to create a successful nation. You only need to maximize the incentive and opportunities for those few exceptional people to come and create jobs for the rest of us.

I am watching this on March 7, 2020. The part of Mr. Petranek's talk that deals with possible future pandemics is so on-target and turned out to be so futile, because people do not like to consider certain kinds of hazard that might be ahead.
