I’m a newborn and maternity photographer from Wakefield, Quebec Canada and I love all your videos, your pictures are beautiful, your set up is amazing and you seem like such a sweetheart. You’re intro “well hello and good morning” always makes me smile :)
I would like to here a little bit more about how you started. When you decide to rent a studio? And how you manage being mom and full time photographer? 🤗🤗🤗
Fenna, you are my very favourite you tuber and you have taught me SO much through all of your brilliant videos which are so easy to watch, I never lose interest, I could watch them over and over for hours! And I do :) This video especially has helped me immensely as my studio is my 6x6 garage and I have 0 natural light and was using continuous with my octogon softbox with one speed flash only - shadows followed me everywhere I went :( After trying your theory and watching this particular video especially learning to change the strength of my flash as it was set on 1-1 and putting the second speed flash into my softbox and removing the harsh globes I had in there my problem is solved and I now have the lighting ive been trying to achieve for years!!! So thank you and I’m sending you the biggest virtual hug for sharing your knowledge with us all with your amazing tutorials! I look forward to your next video❤️ Thank you!!! Katrina
You are a powerhouse of energy and ideas and Thankyou so much for your sharing and giving nature..I recently started using the Rotolight LED and simply ADORE THEM...they can reflect natural light as well as all of the others...can be plugged in or used with batteries...rechargeable ...I am a portrait artist and the light no matter where I am is always available,...I like your choice of soft BOX and will consider investing in it for the studio...love the fact that you DIY and have creative presentations...wonderful I came across your channel...stay blesses
Thank you so much for sharing your journey! Even though I am a pet photographer, I am learning so much from your videos and finding so much inspiration from you!! I love your style and appreciate all of your tips !!! My clients have been asking for doggy cake smash sessions so this is perfect! I started with Yongnuo speedlights and now I have 3 Godox speedlights which I love! I also bounce flash off the ceiling for fill light plus I have 2 Octoboxes. I agree with you, no cords, no mess!
Fenna thank you for your videos, I watch them all the time. I want to get this soft box but I don't want to order the wrong stand and bracket. Which one do you use? Thank you
வீடியோ மிகவும் பயனுள்ளதாக இருந்தது மிக்க நன்றி இரா.மனோகர் சென்னை . Very useful video sir, I learned lot from it, looking forward more videos like this keep it up good work, thank you R.MANOHAR ,Chennai.
Hello Fenna! Nice to meet you. Thank you so much for this video. It is so helpful for me. You are so sweetheart😍. Thank you for sharing With us all your lifehacks 😊👌😘
I'm new to photography and love baby photography. I've loved your speedlight set up but since i'm new I didn't know what to call your equipment to try to find what I might like. I searched to try to find my answers and got a bunch of nothing until I found this video. Thank you so much for letting us know about your equipment :)
Thank you so much for sharing 🙏🏼 you answered every question I had about whether to get strobes or speed lights. And thank you for clarifying how some lighting setups I see allow for constant and flash from the same soft box (modeling light). I was always curious how they achieved that. I love how you use a speed light to bounce off the ceiling and trigger your main speed light. I have been using a constant light in a softbox and a separate speed light in a really large softbox but really like the effect you get using the pair of lights. 😁
Great video! Would you ever use continuous led lights in a soft box for newborns? Or is a flash better? When using the flash are you using HSS? Thank you!
Hi Fenna...I always go to my clients home for newborn sessions...so I use natural light and take along a couple speedlights...easy to setup and transport
Great video! Thank you! A few years ago I went from natural light to strobe and I love it... I've used a speedlight on camera for weddings ect. But I have to say you've sold me on Speedlights. All your pros made so much sense..... Instead of replacing my strobe (when the day comes) I might just move to speedlights. Food for thought, for sure!
Fenna! You are the sweetest, we thank you so much for all your selfless sharing of knowledge with us. I'm a total noob. I am mainly an outdoor photographer and looking to start a little studio in my home for the winter. I have stands and speedlights and triggers, but I need the softbox which I found on adorama. I'm looking for the adapter, will you share the type or link? thanks!!
Love your videos! Would love for you to do one on how you care for your props/ wraps/outfits (especially the super delicate tie backs). Do you wash everything between each child? Thanks for your videos!
I use the YN600EX-RT 2 flashes and the YN-E3-RT 2 transmitter. you can add up to 4 lights without anything else needed. They are capable of HSS and any other settings you need, cheap and dependable. If you consider them keep in mind that's the models for the Canon series.
Sorry new to photography. What's the point of the lens hood at the top of your lens? I love your explanation of lights. I only want to do these for my grandson's photos lol.
I just found your channel and I love it. Very useful tips and I'm very grateful for them. I haven't done so many kid sessions yet but I use speedlights. Just because they are handy and not so much power in them. Keep on what you are doing. Thank you
Thank you. This was really helpful. My first grandchild is due in Jan 2019 and I would love to be able to take some good pics of her! I have never taken indoor photos seriously so researching and learning is great. I took your advice and practiced on my dogs over the weekend, much to their disgust....and delight because of all the treats! However I now understand the saying about never working with animals! Not being a professional I cant justify spending a load so your video has helped me understand what might be useful for me. Lucky the natural light is very bright in Australia!
I just bought the godox tt685c a couple months ago with the X1tc trigger. Its amazing what they can do. I’m gonna grab at least one more, maybe two. It’s nice to be able to control multiple speedlites with just one trigger.
I have strobes because I was taught to use them in my college photography course. I have one speed light and would like to get another so I can use one remotely. I do a lot of natural lighting as well but sometimes that takes a lot of post processing on photoshop!
Thank you so much for this video its very helpful, right now I have a set up in my basement but there is like no natural light whatsoever. I think im going to try this
In regards to wondering if your batteries are running low on your speedlites is to use the godox S-2 Type mount bracket as your speedlight is mounted outside the softbox - have godox receiver attached to flash attached to lightstand with transmitter on camera hotshoe. godox softbox nikon camera bodies.
Great video! I have two flash and 2 continues LED light, that work great for most of my work and I love outdoor nature light during the spring and summer time.
I love natural light outdoors as well! Sometimes with a reflector, but many times just natural in the spring and summer. Especially at the end of the day!
Hello Fenna! Love your videos and all the experience you share. You were missing modeling light - you know you can push the dept-of-field button on your Nikon to active this on the speedlight? :)
Thank you! I did not know this, but I will try it soon. I can image it will work on the speedlight which is on top, but now the one coming from the side (which is the main light and the other the fill light). Still interesting though. I guess I don't really miss a modelling light, but it's nice to have on strobes. It must also cost quite a lot of battery if you use it a lot on speedlights
Ok I have tested this. If you use commander mode it will work fine with the second flash. If you use your remote trigger it won't. Keep on with more good videos :)
ordering my 50in westcott softbox and Godox 2X TT600 High Speed Sync 2.4G Wireless Camera Flash Speedlite with Godox X1T-C Remote Trigger Transmitter....i have lotsss to figure out but i hope this will give me the light i need :) thank you for all your great videos.
Hi from Argentina. I see a lot of your videos and I love it. I highly recommend you to upgrade to Godox system...I started a few months ago and I just love it all, i have 2 V860II, and 2 godox AD200 (a little bigger then a regular flash but a lot more power and has an interchangable head with modelling bulb!) with a Xpro1 trigger...they all communicate perfectly, without any cable! You wont regret it. Here ther are to expensive to buy it (like +50% at least of the price for BH). Regards and keep it coming!
I love your videos I use alien bees strobe but also own speed lights. I use speed lights I own 3 as well as 4 triggers . I do feel like the strobes are sometimes very bright for newborn and they are bulky. I am new to new born photography as I have newborn grand children one born a week ago and one coming in may... need to learn to do this.
Hi Fenna, thanks for your video. I use continuous lighting as I have a home studio and my spare room is not very big, I think it works well for my set-up for now, I only bought it a month ago. It's really interesting to know why and how you use the speed lights. It would be great if you did a tutorial on the poses you use for the babies, how you use them and if you have a workflow. Also, how do yo manage to fit your sessions into 2 hours. I am doing 4 hour sessions most of the time 😅
I think continuous light is also great, because it's like the modelling light where you already see how your shadows fall. I think I will record a video on poses soon and the different workflows per session. I never really look at the clock during a newborn session, but somehow I always finish after 1,5-2 hours.
Fenna&Photography wow, I wish I could say that lol.. I juat finished a newborn session a few hours ago and it was 4hoirs long, included a sibling too. Glad to hear yo will be doing a video on these things. Also how do you have time to edit, with all the sessions you have a week and the kids etc.. Do you edit quite quickly,? I can take hours x
I'm a new amateur photographer of a baby boy. Thank you for posting your videos. They have been educational for me. Where did you find the wooden curved seat you use in many of your shoots?
Thank you! The little wooden curved seat I bought from another photographer and I honestly don't know where she got it from. I guess it's something you can also make yourself!
Hello Fenna. I’m new in the photography world in fact I’m student. Can you explain us how to choose the right strobe and flash. I’ll really appreciate. Thank you so much and greetings from Los Angeles CA
I have a ton to learn before I even get started lol. But I do have a space to use as a potential studio in the future. Only bad thing is there are no windows at all. Would speedlights work for a place with no natural lighting or would the strobe lights be a better option?
Hi Fenna! Would you please share what kind of background are you using in this video. Is it white or creme/ beige? And maybe where did you buy it. Thanks :)
Hello fenna I am from Brazil I love your work and would like to ask a question. What kind of background do you use for the cake session? Thanks for your attention.
Awesome video! I was just wondering about the recycle time for your speedlights. I find mine to be much slower than my strobes which can make it difficult to catch certain moments if I'm waiting for the light to recycle. Do you have that issue?
Hi Fenna, I absolutely LOVE your videos!!! Thank you for explaining everything so well in detail! :-) I was wondering if you could share some links to your softbox, the stand it is on and the little crocheted blankets you use. I have a softbox almost identical to yours but the stand and setup that it is connected to is super heavy and very hard for me to move around. I I would also like one that is a little lower to the ground like the one you have. My stand does not go down that low. Thanks so much!!!
hi. Im just starting a newborn photography. You videos are very good and useful. Im doing mobile photography and using just day light. Every one told me that speed light will be to hash on the baby even with soft box. Yours photos are very good and you have speed light. Do you use TTlL or manual with newborn. The day light is not always there. Did you ever used elinchrome portrait kit. Not sure which to start with mobile photographer. Thank you. Im in England
Hi Fenna, can I jus quickly say thank you for all your videos and experience you are sharing. But I also wanted to ask a question what light would your prefer to use if you would not have such a big windows in a studio or if you would not have natural light at all?
Hi Fenna Can I please ask - you said you use the natural light as well as the flash for the images. Lots of studio work I’ve seen sets the camera to completely remove any ambient light from the room so only it’s only the flash light that falls on the subject - what are your thoughts ? Many thanks Mike Uk
I found this very helpful. I prefer speedlites as well but I also have strobes. I don't use the strobes much though. And still waiting for the studio space. What light stand are you using to have your softbox so low?
Hi Fenna! Super interessante video, bedankt!! Ik ben alleen heel benieuwd vanwaar de adapter op 7:15 in je video vandaan komt, waar je de flitser op plaatst. Heb je hiervan een linkje?
Fenna&Photography I can’t wait! I am a newborn photographer based out of oklahoma USA. Your studio is beautiful and I would love to see it all and how the lay out is!
I love watching and learning from you! I’m also a Nikon user and want to start using my speed lights more. I have the same soft box you have. You said you use master and remote may be you could do a video on how to set camera body and the speed lights. ( I should ask if you have to do any setting to the camera body?) what is the spread of light coming from the speed lights? I’m thinking wide but wanted to double check. Is there any helpful tricks on feathering and the distance of the light from your soft box to beanbag or floor poses. Thank you!
Hi Fenna, I am planning a cake smash photoshoot of my baby at my home. The light is insufficient hence I need additional lights. Please suggest what colour (white/yellow) light is recommended and what kind of light do you suggest (halogen or lamp)?
Hi Fenna, this video is quite helpful. I'm always struggling with light. Mostly when the parents are in the pictures. One question, where do you get your vinyl backdrops, other than tablecloths? I only have paper and vinyl floor but then there is always this line between them. I like it better when it's all one backdrop.
You are so amazing! I also love how you involve your kids in the videos as well, especially with painting backdrops and fun messy stuff like that, well done! my kids and videos may have a very different result 😂😂 could I please ask which lens you use for your cake smashes in this video? I have a 16-35mm and I’m just about to finally get my 24-70 for newborns :)
Can you tell me what are the brands of your lighting equipment? I really wanted to pursue newborn photography and I wanted to invest with a good lighting equipment thanks 😊
What are the benefits of using a flash over having softball lights that just stay on? I have a videograohy background and trying to better understand photograohy
Hi, your channel is a delight to watch, and I enjoy your content. I am a D750 and SB 700 user. I just started learning flashes bc I was a natural light for the longest time, problem was it was so limiting.... since I do a lot of events to pay the bills, I purchased the madmod system..... just got it yesterday so I’m don’t get a chance until next Friday to use it. It’s suppose to be a light box but portable one top of the camera , we will see. Would it be possible for you to talk about your start and what you did in the beginning as you seem to be a well established photographer in your area, and would be nice to hear some more your story😀
Thank you for your kind words! Would love to hear if you like the madmod system. I have a portable very small softbox as well to place on top of the camera, but I actually never use it. Will record a video on how I started hopefully soon!
I’m a newborn and maternity photographer from Wakefield, Quebec Canada and I love all your videos, your pictures are beautiful, your set up is amazing and you seem like such a sweetheart. You’re intro “well hello and good morning” always makes me smile :)
Ahh thank you. Your comment made me smile!
Natasha Gregoire je suis de gatineau moi hihi
I would like to here a little bit more about how you started. When you decide to rent a studio? And how you manage being mom and full time photographer? 🤗🤗🤗
I get this question a lot, so I guess it's time to record a video about this soon!
Wow...this video is awesome. Thanks for sharing. You broke everything down so simply. Thank you!
Fenna, you are my very favourite you tuber and you have taught me SO much through all of your brilliant videos which are so easy to watch, I never lose interest, I could watch them over and over for hours! And I do :) This video especially has helped me immensely as my studio is my 6x6 garage and I have 0 natural light and was using continuous with my octogon softbox with one speed flash only - shadows followed me everywhere I went :(
After trying your theory and watching this particular video especially learning to change the strength of my flash as it was set on 1-1 and putting the second speed flash into my softbox and removing the harsh globes I had in there my problem is solved and I now have the lighting ive been trying to achieve for years!!! So thank you and I’m sending you the biggest virtual hug for sharing your knowledge with us all with your amazing tutorials! I look forward to your next video❤️

You really kept that baby busy by letting him eat the cake to himself.
Very funny.
Thank you so much for sharing this information, this is very helpful.
Great video with a lot of practical information on lighting with examples. Thumbs up 👍!
Thank you so much!
Fenna thank you for your videos, I watch them all the time. I want to get this soft box but I don't want to order the wrong stand and bracket. Which one do you use?
Thank you

I'm using constant light mixed with day light...but I'm planning to switch to strobes or speedlight...Thanks for sharing! 😍
You're welcome. I mix my speedlights with daylight ;)
Thank you! This is exactly what I wanted to see!
Glad I could help
Seem like an advantage of strobe is the lower ISO. Using my iso above 640 makes me nervous
Thank you so much for sharing 🙏🏼 you answered every question I had about whether to get strobes or speed lights. And thank you for clarifying how some lighting setups I see allow for constant and flash from the same soft box (modeling light). I was always curious how they achieved that. Hi Fenna...I always go to my clients home for newborn sessions...so I use natural light and take along a couple speedlights...easy to setup and transport
I would love if you made an updated lighting video to your newest images.
I really enjoy watching your tutorials
Great video! Thank you! A few years ago I went from natural light to strobe and I love it... I've used a speedlight on camera for weddings ect. But I have to say you've sold me on Speedlights. All your pros made so much sense..... Instead of replacing my strobe (when the day comes) I might just move to speedlights. Food for thought, for sure!
very helpful. thanks Fena
What size soft box are you using? Love the info I have learned so far.
Hello, you are impeccable work, what umbrella did you use? What measurements can you tell me? Where can I get it? Thank you
I'm in love with your channel.... I'm hooked... thank you for all your useful information
I use the YN600EX-RT 2 flashes and the YN-E3-RT 2 transmitter. you can add up to 4 lights without anything else needed. They are capable of HSS and any other settings you need, cheap and dependable. If you consider them keep in mind that's the models for the Canon series.
Thank you, you're very inspiring. I love all your ideas. Great work!
Sorry new to photography. What's the point of the lens hood at the top of your lens? I love your explanation of lights. I only want to do these for my grandson's photos lol.
Hi
Thank you for sharing. What lens are you using?
This was very helpful. I prefer speed lights for the same reasons you listed.
That's great to hear!
I just bought the godox tt685c a couple months ago with the X1tc trigger. Its amazing what they can do. I’m gonna grab at least one more, maybe two. It’s nice to be able to control multiple speedlites with just one trigger.
Also looking at the AD200. It’s the size of a speedlite but 3 times as powerful.
Hi Fenna! I'm a absolute fan of yours! Could you tell me where do you get your photo backgrounds from? Many thanks and love from UK !!
I have strobes because I was taught to use them in my college photography course. I have one speed light and would like to get another so I can use one remotely. I do a lot of natural lighting as well but sometimes that takes a lot of post processing on photoshop!
I used stones for awhile . Recently went to natural light and speed lites . So much freedom
would you mind making a video showing how you made the flower circle?
I upgraded from two godox tt600 to a godox ad200 pro and I have no problems with battery life or recycle time PERFECT LIGHT‼️
love your content! binge watching you girl!! :)
Hello! Will you consider an updated lighting video? Thanks so much! ❤

I love natural light outdoors as well! Sometimes with a reflector, but many times just natural in the spring and summer. Especially at the end of the day!

Thenks Fenna
I love your videos I use alien bees strobe but also own speed lights. I use speed lights I own 3 as well as 4 triggers . I do feel like the strobes are sometimes very bright for newborn and they are bulky. I am new to new born photography as I have newborn grand children one born a week ago and one coming in may... need to learn to do this.

Love it just what I was looking for thank u!!
I love Floral backdrop. Your videos are so useful. I also like speed lights. Could you pls give a link where you bought floral backdrop. Thank you
Hello Fenna. I’m new in the photography world in fact I’m student. Can you explain us how to choose the right strobe and flash. I’ll really appreciate. Thank you so much and greetings from Los Angeles CA
Hi Fenna, I love all your videos. Wanted to ask why you use a soft box and not a PLM Umbrella?
Love this! So helpful ☺️ do you have a link for the softbox setup (including any attachments) thank you
I have a ton to learn before I even get started lol. But I do have a space to use as a potential studio in the future. Only bad thing is there are no windows at all. Would speedlights work for a place with no natural lighting or would the strobe lights be a better option?

hey ma'am...your photography is very sharp & Beautiful.
Can you tell which lance you use in camera...
Thank You.
Can you please share the details about your flash stand, mount and softbox ?
Hello fenna
I am from Brazil I love your work and would like to ask a question. What kind of background do you use for the cake session? Thanks for your attention.
Does the softbox comes with the stand for the Speedlight or just the adaptor? Thank you!
Awesome video! I was just wondering about the recycle time for your speedlights. I find mine to be much slower than my strobes which can make it difficult to catch certain moments if I'm waiting for the light to recycle. Do you have that issue?

Hi Fenna, can I jus quickly say thank you for all your videos and experience you are sharing. But I also wanted to ask a question what light would your prefer to use if you would not have such a big windows in a studio or if you would not have natural light at all?
Hi Fenna
Can I please ask - you said you use the natural light as well as the flash for the images.
Thank you so much for the videos! May I ask what kind of stand and mount for the softbox and the speed light? Thanks!
What is the cold shoe mount you use for your speedlights? They look like they have a quick release - different some the ones I've used.
Hi Fenna! Super interessante video, bedankt!! Ik ben alleen heel benieuwd vanwaar de adapter op 7:15 in je video vandaan komt, waar je de flitser op plaatst. Heb je hiervan een linkje?
Hi Fenna, thank you for your great vlog! Anyway, where did you buy your big soft box and what size your soft box ?
I would really like a video of a studio tour!
I have just added it to my 'to do list" First I have to organize the studio a bit more :)
Thank you!
Hey there 😊 could you Tell me what softbox that is?
May I ask what light stand you put your soft box on?
Hi Fenna, I am planning a cake smash photoshoot of my baby at my home. The light is insufficient hence I need additional lights. Please suggest what colour (white/yellow) light is recommended and what kind of light do you suggest (halogen or lamp)?
Hi Fenna, this video is quite helpful. I'm always struggling with light. Mostly when the parents are in the pictures. One question, where do you get your vinyl backdrops, other than tablecloths? I only have paper and vinyl floor but then there is always this line between them. I like it better when it's all one backdrop.
Fenna, what are you favorite lenses for cakesmash and newborn? Do you use a macro lens for details?
I mostly use the Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8 lens, but I also have a Tamron 90 mm macro lens which I use during newborn sessions
I watch your video on what speed lights and softbox you use however I can’t find it anywhere. Can you send a link to where it can be bought?
The Nikon 700 & 900 have modeling lights - they only turn on for about 15 seconds but it's enough to get an idea. Look in the manual for operation.
What model is your Nikon camera?
I use and prefer their speedlights to the cheaper ones - never had them break.. :)
Which camera is best for beginners ? Thanks
What are the benefits of using a flash over having softball lights that just stay on? I have a videograohy background and trying to better understand photograohy
So were you using the speed light flash on your camera AND two soft boxes? I only saw one soft box
How do you clean the white backdrop after a cakesmash?
