I will be completing my 4th course through NYIP school and this last course will be newborn photography, I a,ready have a degree in professional photography, wedding photography, digital editing techniques and soon newborn photography and I have been doing this school since 2012!, it’s legit and I had to pay a tuition, buy books, take tests and all that and it’s truly helped me learn. Now I need you Fenna to teach me about things I need for my studio ❤
I agree with you totally. Becoming a photographer first, training, education, investing in your yourself, your studio, your equipment. This is my 11th year as a newborn photographer and I can’t believe how many people just become a newborn photographer. As you say as well, newborn photography is not as easy as people think, so many people start and then they realize what goes into it and they give up. It has to be a passion. I always wanted to be a photographer from little and I used to pour over Anne Geddes books and calendars growing up, I always loved babies and especially newborns. Thank you.
I am an NICU nurse who loves photography! I've never been taught but enjoy taking photographs whenever I can in my spare time. For the past few months I have been thinking deeply about starting something in photography and have sparked a small dream to one day do newborn photography! :) Your channel so far has been super informative, and your approach and skills are really inspiring me to move forward and look into cameras, courses/classes, etc! Hoping that as the years pass I slowly gain more skills and am able to finally do some cute shots :)
I started with my very first photo session a newborn :) but I also have 2 children and 15 years experience with babies. So I am comfortable with it. Also I was a teacher, so I LOVE education and have been watching videos and taking one on one lessons. I also have my first aid, CPR and infant CPR certificates.
What a dreamy job i want to cry. Beautiful explanation i hope you have tons of babies coming in to your studio this year, because you deserve them and they're deserve you! Thanks for the precious knowledge.. Subscribed! 💓💓💓💓
I feel very lucky considering I studied to become a midwife and have been a hobby photographer for 10 years. And I agree, knowing how to handle the babies and know what they need, is the number one priority and does take up 90% of yoru time during these shoots. So all in all: Great tips!
Your advice has helped me a lot, your channel is the only one I´ve found on youtube that truly explains everything super well this type of work! Thanks!!!
Very good tips, especially the “you don’t become a newborn photographer quickly” there is so much to learn and safety is the biggest issue for me when I see new photogs out there handling babies, and yes... new moms are always so overprotective so you better handle that sweet baby like gold :) thanks for the video!
I loved this. Just placed my order for an Ikea bed and plan to do the same! Thanks for the inspiration. I'm a new photographer and trying to acquire some great props. Can't wait to watch more of your videos!
Really great Video Fenna! Its a profession to work with newborn Babys, as you explain there are a lot of trainings necessary to became a good Baby Photographer! Thanks for your helpful tips!
Hello, I'd like to know how you started with your business, did you have a studio right away or did this take time? What variety of props etc did you have? How did you get to where you are today with clients, what marketing etc did you need to do to get your name out there? Was it slow going at first? How long did it take before you were able to make this your full time job? I've just set up my own studio after many many years of thinking about it, 8 years ago now since i graduated university. Currently things are going quite slowly and I am still working my full time job along side my photography. Any tips, advice and personal experience in the early days of starting your studio would be amazing. I'd love to make my studio my full time job :) Keep up the great work xxx :)
Hello pixiepop88 . I had the same question than you and she answered everything in the video of “How I started a my photography business “ and she explained that she had other job and worked 32 hrs in the same time that she took photos. I recommend watch that video. Its very helpful.
You shared a great content with this video. I have just started my career with photography from hobby to get professional. And i am into new born baby and maternity as my fav part. I am facing problems with having props as per choice not getting them in my city. But stil learning new things to use as props. It will be great if you share DIY ideas for props as well what I can do with crops sensor camera as I am using sony a58 as my budget. Hoping for guidelines from you. Thanks a lot
Thank you so much for this Video! ❤️ I’m going to be an aunt in October and i’m already putting things together for a Newbornshooting... Usually i’m photographing Horses and Dogs Outdoor... My Favourite Lense is my Nikon 85mm, 1.8... now i can’t decide between a 50mm or 35mm for the Babyshooting 😌
I just join to your list of subscription list and thanks for sharing your knowledge and insights!!! Important contributions to the community of photographers
Echt een top video! Heel fijn om te zien en om te horen hoe je je werk vol passie doet.Blijf zo doorgaan met deze interessante en informatieve videos!!Groetjes, Phine
Hi Fenna. Where have you bought your backdrops from ( they you use for family session and smash the cake) ? They look so wrinkle free and thick! I bought several but they are really thin and wrinkly, and I think I'm going mad after buying like 10 pieces that isn't what i look for. I really love the look of yours. And those that looks faded in color in the middle. Please get back to me.
Will you be holding a website to do your education about newborn photography? I feel I should be charging for these videos you're posting anyway. they're amazing. I appreciate you doing this for us starting out.
Hi Fenna, great video!
I agree. Photography is my hobby but people tell me to monetize it but I have no formal training and education. I have no money or time to go to school.
I was told that the strength and direction of the flash does matter. I use my speedlight at a lower setting (like 1/64) and it's pointed inwards, so actually away from the baby. The silver inside of the softbox reflects the light gently towards the baby and it can be compared to a large window. I love soft feathered light and i noticed by using my light this was, even babies with their eyes wide open don't blink or respond to the soft flash. Hope this answer helps
Thanks so much for your videos!!! Do you do any workshops on Newborn Photography? (Sorry, if you answered this already somewhere) Where I live, there are some workshops about it but I don't fully agree with the teachers, so I would rather do a workshop with someone I fully agree and whose style I like (like you ;-) ).
I am so terrified of becoming a newborn photographer even though I've had a baby of my own. Do you handle the baby or direct the parent in handling the baby? Do parents get fussy about the fabric being used? How do you handle laundry?
really i respect all what you said and let me tell you something your video it was too benefits for me ... more info .. knowledge and of course you have the right to get the money for sharing your experience and your info .... anyway thx u really and you are welcome queen .
Saher Kidwai I got mine from Walmart. It’s decker brand. It was like 15 dollars and it works great. Won’t heat up the whole room but it will keep the baby happy
I made my sitting room look like a photographic studio with all I need to take photos like yours but mothers keep asking "oh really so you don't have a REAL studio??"... they don't trust a home studio
Maybe take some nice pictures of your home studio or a nice 1 minute video clip and share this on your webpage. This way, you can send them the link and have them look for themselves how a home studio can be perfectly professional, clean, spacious and comfortable. I actually moved back from commercial studio space to a home studio and I love it! However, I have a separate entrance from the street and the studio space has it's own toilet/kitchen area, so they don't enter my home.
Very insightful video and I love your emphasis on SAFTEY. Been doing photography over 2 years and I believe my calling is to take wonderful portraits of new born. I have 3 girls and I know how important it is to look after your kids let alone someone else’s. Thank you so much for sharing 🥰
You have some good tips for sure. But you always come as a person who thinks about profit with all that company talk, and investing in education and that your expertise should raises your profit. You are drifting away from making a memorable moment for the baby and his parents and focusing more on the business aspect. And I have to say I personally know so many photographers that are not professional (Not majored in photography) and they take really good pics even compared to you some are honestly better. Passion is the key. Education, props, gear is all secondary. Yes they make better shots but the picture that the passion person takes before pressing the camera trigger is what counts. You make it sound impossible for people who are not majored in photography to be a newborn photographers which I hate. And that compression with the doctor... like WHAT? How do you compare taking photos to saving lives??
Thank you for sharing your opinion. I didn't think I would come across as someone who thinks more about profit than the joy of photographing beautiful moments. I actually offer my videos for free, since profit is really not on the top of my list. I love encouraging, inspiring and motivating other photographers. Photography is my hobby, my passion and something I just really love doing. I don't have a major in photography myself (I have a BBA), but I think the safety of fragile Newborn babies is and always will be the most important. That's why I encourage people to first learn about photography (which you can do from home, watching youtube videos about aperture, shutter speed, iso, white balance, composition, editing etc) and start practicing taking pictures of friends/family/nature/pets... You can do all this from the comfort of your home. Passion is the key, but photographing a baby who is, for example, uncomfortable, too hot/cold, exposed to harsh materials... wouldn't be great as a memorable moment for the parents. I must admit I'm not the best photographer out there. Maybe check my newest videos to see how I'm still improving and educating myself as well :)
@@FennaPhotography Well not gonna lie. I miss understood you, when you talked about education. Yes please do a video on insurance and licensing your business
I will look into that. It might be a bit difficult because of different rules/regulations around the world
a general rule would be great because I don't know anything about insurance for photography
I just love how your videos are so calm and serene..Thank you for all you do.

Fantastic information and agree with everything.

What editing style are you using?

You don't need a paid title to start in this profession. Nowadays there are hundreds of tutorials and a online community that is always happy to help.
You are awesome
Do you ever give printed photos or only digital?
Hi from Ecuador. 😊 Please, can you recomend me a lens for a nikkon d5300. Thank you. Your videos are awesome.
85mm 1.8 50mm 1.8 35mm 1.8 are all great lenses just depends on how much you want in the shot
can i know is it using flash is okey or not🤔. If baby sleeping is not effective for eyes right 🤔 can you please help me know that
