She is truly amazing. What a beautiful voice and of course Pavarotti is always fantastic the greatest tenor of the last few decades after Corelli. Absolute glorious singing by both two outstanding opera singers.
Anna Tomowa-Sintow did not have a habit of scooping. If scooping was the problem, Mirella Freni and Edita Gruberova woudn't have had careers at all! LOL! Anna Tomowa Sintow actually had a glorious career and sang in some of the most important houses throughout her long career. She also made a plethora of very fine recordings. You have to also consider that she was singing the same roles as Leontyne Price and other top sopranos of that same period in the same houses, but she made her mark. :-)

Anna did not do much scooping, if any. She has a very smooth legato and uses it perfectly to keep Verdi's line connected as she sings here. If this is what is now called scooping then no wonder we have no singer today who seems able to connect more than three notes at a time.
Not really convinced - awful staging, bad acting on Pavarotti's part (though good vocally), uneven singing on Tomowa-Sintow's part (yes, scooping indeed).

She is one of the foremost QUALITY singers, so intelligent and with wonderful musicality.....sadly underrated; just like Martina Arroyo in my view.

IMO her constant scooping is the only thing that held her back from Mega stardom. Such a gorgeous instrument!
And the strange throaty vibrato that got in the way of a feeling of intimacy.
it was not her scooping- it was her vibrato that was odd- but she was very good in her prime
