Thank you so much for posting the words. I am listening to this on the train to work and completely enthralled by it and trying to stop myself from singing out loud. Not that I'm a soprano or for that matter Italian 😍
I had seen Luciano in La Boheme and la fille de regiment but I was too late purchasing tickets to a concert in Miami. At the last minute we were able to get tickets sitting behind him on stage. The performance was marvelous and when he finished he said to his audience he wanted to sing to his other audience and turned to face the people behind him. Everyone started pleading for their favorite aria as an encore and I said "una furtiva ". He smiled and nodded to the pianist accompanying him and after 2 chords I knew. Pavarotti singing una furtiva 4 feet in front of me. And I knew if my life had ended then it would have ended on a high note.
I listen to Pavarotti since I was a toddler and wanted to see him in person, but some years later knew he passed away. Even today, over 15 years later, I still pretend he is alive because his memory will always live with me ❤

I try not to lament the loss of such a talent but remind myself of beauty he left. I don't think I would have stopped applauding if I was in the audience. So beautiful.
There’s Luciano and his superb talent. Then there is the genius of Gaetano Donizetti from whose composer’s pen we have this listener paradise. The great Italian opera composers are unequaled throughout the universe.

The color and emotion in that remarkable voice makes him easily the most recognizable tenor. The century began with Caruso and ended with Pavarotti - it's doubtful opera will ever again be that blessed.
Here is a man playing the finest musical instrument in the world, technically proficient and in tune with all human emotion. He knows this and gives and gives and gives. Still. Ah, Luciano!
It wasn´t only the voice, that was so captivating, but his purity of expression as well - and Pavarotti was a sufficiently good enough actor to truly and honestly radiate, what he sang.

@@mortemoccasus2412 Are you talking about that movie version? Horrible movie, worst made, but Pavarotti is the only shining star that worth to listen to. I especially love his La Boheme...so passionate. The opera that makes his career, he started Boheme where ever he went to sing first. Pavarotti brought the whole crew to Beijing in 1986 to open his tour with La Boheme...
I cannot imagine this man’s vocal cords after such a show. His throat must have been on fire. It pays to drink lots of water after spending this much energy. Who knew mere songs required this much perfection
There are two people I wish i'd heard sing live...one is Luciano Pavarotti and the other is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan....I regret not making sacrifices and making the journey...
The other among this height are Lt. Beniamo Gigli and Lt. Enrico Caruso. You might like them, both have beautiful baritone voices and are considered greatest tenors to ever live along Pavarotti.
He was at the peak of his powers at this age. He could still belt out the standards as he grew older but he couldn’t find and hold the notes like he did here. He also never sounded gravelly like most tenors get with age. Magnificent. (This was also live on stage, not a staged recording.)
Pavarotti the master. He had EVERYTHING...looks, stage presence, emotion, beautiful timbre, total control, theatre, sensitivity, power.... really just the best voice ever. He is sublime....untouchable. A once in a life time master. There's a story on here somewhere of a lady in Italy who lived close to Luciano and would hear him practice on his patio I think...ha! luckiest woman!! Wish I'd have seen a performance live...
I'm pretty ignorant about opera, and haven't seen even one live, but it doesn't matter if you don't understand the lyrics nor if you have any musical training... this aria is truly one of the most beautiful things ever done by a human being. It has that "something" that i can't describe; such power and emotion, truly embodied in the voice & interpretation of Maestro Luciano.
Just to make roughly grasp the general sense and make you enjoy even more next time, it says: One furtive tear in her eyes appeared: Those festive young girls she seemed to envy. What more do I look for? She loves me! She loves me, I can see it! Just an instant to feel the heartbeats of her beautiful heart! My breaths, not for much, blending to hers! The heartbeats, to feel the heatbeats, to blend my breaths with hers! Heavens! I could die! I don't dare asking for more, I don't. Ah, Heavens! You could die from love. Of course translation very rarely apply to art. Often times you can't translate the musicality of the word or the very meaning of a word. Or the shades of a sentence. Or the emotions of a certain combination of words put together in a particular way. The point being: you can't try to replicate in English this song, so don't even try to sing it in English. I put the lyrics in verse just for reference so you can roughly get at which point certain words come up. I hope understanding the meaning makes you appreciate it even more!
You haven't truly experienced it until you've heard professional quality performers live. The sounds that came out of Pavarotti have never fully been captured on recording imho.
From the time man first opened his mouth and made a sound until today there has never been a more beautiful human voice. Combined with the fact that as somebody once said the word “charisma” was invented for Pavarotti, this is an artist like no other!
Saludos

Italian Text of 'Una Furtiva Lagrima'
Una furtiva lagrima
negli occhi suoi spuntò:
Quelle festose giovani
invidiar sembrò.
Che più cercando io vo?
Che più cercando io vo?
M'ama! Sì, m'ama, lo vedo. Lo vedo.
Un solo intante i palpiti
del suo bel cor sentir!
I miei sospir, confondere
per poco a' suoi sospir!
I palpiti, i palpiti sentir,
confondere i miei coi suoi sospir...
Cielo! Si può morir!
Di più non chiedo, non chiedo.
Ah, cielo! Si può! Si, può morir!
Di più non chiedo, non chiedo.
Si può morire! Si può morir d'amor.
English Translation of 'Una Furtiva Lagrima'
A single secret tear
from her eye did spring:
as if she envied all the youths
that laughingly passed her by.
What more searching need I do?
What more searching need I do?
She loves me! Yes, she loves me, I see it. I see it.
For just an instant the beating
of her beautiful heart I could feel!
As if my sighs were hers,
and her sighs were mine!
The beating, the beating of her heart I could feel,
to merge my sighs with hers...
Heavens! Yes, I could die!
I could ask for nothing more, nothing more.
Oh, heavens! Yes, I could, I could die!
I could ask for nothing more, nothing more.
Yes, I could die! Yes, I could die of love.

Per fortuna la musica non ha confini
I had a dream since I was small girl to listen to his singing in reality, unfortunately I did not manage to realize it, but mostly thanks to him I started studying Italian language being an university student. A good thing is that his performances were recorded and people who like music can enjoy his miraculous voice.
He was not a singer but an entire orchestra!

Everyone started pleading for
their favorite aria as an encore and I said "una furtiva ". He smiled and nodded to the pianist accompanying him and after 2 chords I knew. Pavarotti singing una furtiva 4 feet in front of me.
And I knew if my life had ended then it would have ended on a high note.
LOVELY.
How fabulous you were indeed blessed. I would have loved to have seen him. What a fantastic man for me the greatest tenor ever.

This is legitimately one of the only songs that made me cry. That really goes to show how much a good singer can have of an impact on someone.
Pavarotti's singing is obviously fantastic, but the bassoon in this piece is underrated - such fantastic playing.
The color and emotion in that remarkable voice makes him easily the most recognizable tenor. The century began with Caruso and ended with Pavarotti - it's doubtful opera will ever again be that blessed.
Magnificent..!!
So very sad that this gifted man is no longer with us. Thank God for this recording….x
RIP, great man.

The other among this height are Lt. Beniamo Gigli and Lt. Enrico Caruso. You might like them, both have beautiful baritone voices and are considered greatest tenors to ever live along Pavarotti.
As a tenor for the masses he was ok, as for quality of voice, he can't compere with Jussi Björling, he was the king of tenors!

He only blinks like once every two minutes. He had a special gift indeed.
He saved all his blinks till the end it seems 😮😅
He was at the peak of his powers at this age. He could still belt out the standards as he grew older but he couldn’t find and hold the notes like he did here. He also never sounded gravelly like most tenors get with age. Magnificent. (This was also live on stage, not a staged recording.)

bujing kujing Precisely.
It's Candy
Even without knowing the language you can tell it's a lament, "secret tears".
Just to make roughly grasp the general sense and make you enjoy even more next time, it says:
One furtive tear
in her eyes appeared:
Those festive young girls
she seemed to envy.
What more do I look for?
She loves me! She loves me, I can see it!
Just an instant to feel
the heartbeats of her beautiful heart!
My breaths, not for much,
blending to hers!
The heartbeats, to feel the heatbeats,
to blend my breaths with hers!
Study. Ita Napolitanian not italiano
