People just didn't find a way to squeeze the best out of it because they were using single rune spenders; SoTVH and unholy presence as some sort of RP generation build. There are in fact plenty of posts about dw uhdk on Elitist Jerks from back then, with pretty detailed info. What I really think that happens on cases like this is that people misses the point of why this build performs better than the standard 2h. Your melee damage is the bread and butter for the spec, follwed by ghoul damage. Necrosis damage increase represents a 20% of such melee damage but don't take it as a big deal, while BCB sits at around 1% increase. The gap is behind melee damage, being way higher than 2h and a key talent that contributes to this is NoCS (along with dual wielding being by default already better overall on wrath than 2h). Everything else used on the rotation/glyph and talent choices is made to compensate for the loss of SS and BS damage, which isn't much even on 2h (except for endgame SS that hits like a truck). Cinderglacier isn't actually a *must take* enchant, we could argue that it is bis for any heavy AoE fight but that's about it. Worth to note, every of the interactions described on Warmane regarding this specific enchant have been proven right on beta. The main reason it works is because of how easy it is to access nerves of cold steel in the frost tree. If that one talent alone was deeper into frost it would make it harder for it to be a thing. What are you trading? Blood strike, Scourge strike and Plague strike (ocasionally). With some weird FF clipping that you might aswell have on 2h rotation. But there's a general rule that even applies for 2h (if you do not count the RP generated) that *on average* your SS+BS, due to how it works with the shadow portion double dipping on a lot of stuff while relying on the original SS damage to check the base damage on the formula, is paired or even below DnD in terms of damage. Why does this happen? DnD is 11 ticks that have very nice scaling into AP while SS has a binary outcome in statistical terms: .Crits and does a lot of damage .Get a hit and it will do the same damage as a wet noodle. Your endgame scourge strike crit sits at around 50% talented, while on previous tiers it's on the 30 to 45% range. If your SS doesn't crit, your SS+BS combination (regardless of BS crit) will normally do less than a 70/30 DnD (which is on the average range of hit/crit for the spell on a raiding environment, and it's far more achievable in statistical terms due to the amount of ticks and therefore going into some sort of normal distribution). We're not factoring in things such as arp that heavily favor DnD, which is one of the main reasons that if you wanna min-max 2h rotation on progression early tiers you'll be cheesing some DnD here and there. So, what's left after this? Plague strike damage (negligible fr) and 1 SS+BS compared to IT+PS+BS (since you don't have DnD on every rune cycle). IT-PS-BS/BB give 5 more RP than 2/2 dirge SS-BS, now SS+BS will do a considerable amount of extra damage when compared to the previous 3 single rune spenders. Is it enough to have 2h above dw? Clearly not, that's why you see on tiers that *are not* helping 2h build (like t8 and t9) a nice 10% gap between DW and 2H. Here's the argument you were looking for, cheers.

So you are wasting 6% on somthing you are doing at 33% of the fight instead of 100% of the fight and that has higher % nubric values. dont wanna offend you or anything but both those talents are niche talents that you dont really care much for. they do add dps but they are not even remotley close vs nerves of steel. Now that being said, it does not mean dw uh will be better we have to see, when we test in beta.
I miss rolling DPS Blood spec and that shit was fun as hell, can't remember my GS but it was ICC 25 gear w/ mix of heroic and it pulled surprisingly good dps
i was full icc bis(including Smourne) before they broke blood, full ArP was absolutely nutty.... especially on cleave.. Blood prince council was super fun.. Cringe on you blizz.. Bring back blood dps! Edit: should preface they didnt break blood, they just buffed everything else to make it better while blood stayed the same.. but to me thats the same thing as nerfing. Buff everything else to make this spec just worse

I'd say it really comes down to whether your +hit and DW white damage with necrosis and BCB procs are stronger than Scourge strike hits in high crit. SS doesn't add the off hand into it's damage calculations. So using DW nerfs your SS by a large margin. One reason frost DW is so strong is Threat of Thassarian, deep in the frost tree, enabling your strikes to include the off-hand damage as well.
You use SS mainly to proc Sigil of Virulence, you don't talent into SS before that. How about you watch Whitewolf's guide first, you'll see how excessively that man has studied all possible UH specs

Back in the day I remember DKs clearly knowing dual wield was better but wouldn't do it because of flavor reasons and everyone wanted big burst hits for PVP as well, more people saw PVP as an integral part of the game back then. You took your char out to pvp when you were geared, you didn't use it to speed run content, at least not on the PVP servers I was birthed on, Frostwolf, Frostmane, Tichondrius, Ner'zhul.

So similar to Sword Spec for rogues, Blood-caked Blade uses the damage of the mainhand even if its procced from an offhand attack. With a fast offhand you would trigger BCC of a slow mainhand at a way higher rate, which makes the talent wayy stronger for dw than for 2h.
DW Unholy was pretty much a thing, not just Pservers, there was a lot of talk about it in original EJ forums prior to ICC release. I remember the discussions and the theory crafting you have done (played on Tems on Twisting Nether in Conspiracy Guild) I even got the first 2xAnub hc 1h axes in the guild when we were pretty competitive

Dude your videos are some of the most spot on content about Wrath on this platform. It's very much appreciated. Personally I am going to stick with 2 handed swords, I don't like meta builds and I don't like being the same as most people, everyone is talking about DW already on my server so I want to be a little different, it's why my DK is a Blood Elf and not an Orc as the meta would suggest.
If 3.3.5 is the patch being released, then DW frost is the best dps spec until shadowmourne. Look up imperiuslol dw dk guide from 2010. I was topping parses in heroic icc with my full armpen frost DW setup.
Good topic but wrong about "blood is tank". The tree still has most of its talents for dps, and in late tier 10 it performs really well in damage. It's more like bloods damage was nerfed from earlier tiers, but it still stands as viable.

im not sure if it came in 3.3 or before that but frost dw was the way there a frost talent that made you strike with both weapons when you use abilities theres a second talent in frost tree that refunds a rune whenever a frost strike is used(plus glyph making fs cost 32 rp instead on 40) and theres a glyph of pestilence that resets dots and spreads it to an aoe of 20 yards at a cost of 1 blood rune and the rune forge you got wrong you want lichbane i think? it was it gave a debuff of taking more frost damage but it aslo upped the weapon damage by % too
if you have a bad guild then sure you can be top DPS.. if you were like me in a guild killing heroic arthas then no, dk will be behind warrior and ret on almost all fights.

Blizzard just bases the classic servers off the private cores anyway. Classic and TBC were not Vanillalike at all, they were both just copy paste from Kronos. I think its way more likely that Wotlk is using the Warmane core than Blizzard puts in any work themselves.

no originally frost dps had a big 2h ! with BIG obliterate crits! this changed some months in wotlk back the days but originally it was frost 2h and uh DW!

It's been 10 months, so what was the result?
I used DW Unholy in TOGC at the suggestion of a guild mate. It was amazing especially on multi target bosses. So many blood boils

I only remember dw unholy from back in the day. All of the unholy dks in my guild and in my friends guild were dw.
I wouldn't hate DW DKs so much if they actually had str 1h dps weapons in wrath... like, it really baffles me that it never occurred to the itemizers that DKs would want to dw dps. Were they just like " well, since fury warriors have titan grip now, there is no point to making str dps 1hs. What was that? DK'S are designed so that they can tank or dps in all 3 specializations? Psh, what are you talking about, frost is clearly the tank spec, there is no way anyone would want to DW dps DK, I think we know best how our players will want to play the game..."

So similar to Sword Spec for rogues, Blood-caked Blade uses the damage of the mainhand even if its procced from an offhand attack.
With a fast offhand you would trigger BCC of a slow mainhand at a way higher rate, which makes the talent wayy stronger for dw than for 2h.

DW Unholy was pretty much a thing, not just Pservers, there was a lot of talk about it in original EJ forums prior to ICC release. I remember the discussions and the theory crafting you have done (played on Tems on Twisting Nether in Conspiracy Guild) I even got the first 2xAnub hc 1h axes in the guild when we were pretty competitive
@@ArtemMalian yes I understand, as many things, a lot were viable not just fully fleshed out as it is from years of the game being out. I'm aware of the EJ forums as I was there for most of the discussion and the TCing itself. I do also still remember some of the rotation/gearing, it was more focused around DnD/Pet... etc.
It was a great dps spec before 3.3.5 it was insane dps and it got nerfed hard by blizzard.

Dude your videos are some of the most spot on content about Wrath on this platform. It's very much appreciated. Personally I am going to stick with 2 handed swords, I don't like meta builds and I don't like being the same as most people, everyone is talking about DW already on my server so I want to be a little different, it's why my DK is a Blood Elf and not an Orc as the meta would suggest.
Being different would be trying dw unholy. 2h is what unholy has always had and would be the standard run of the mill build
But it appears that the Standard has changed, the Standard is now DW Unholy/Frost

If 3.3.5 is the patch being released, then DW frost is the best dps spec until shadowmourne. Look up imperiuslol dw dk guide from 2010. I was topping parses in heroic icc with my full armpen frost DW setup.

Dual weild is relevant to the phase. Go with w/e Sims better in your experience. You may not get 2 last laughs... you probably won't.
Good topic but wrong about "blood is tank". The tree still has most of its talents for dps, and in late tier 10 it performs really well in damage. It's more like bloods damage was nerfed from earlier tiers, but it still stands as viable.

there a frost talent that made you strike with both weapons when you use abilities
theres a second talent in frost tree that refunds a rune whenever a frost strike is used(plus glyph making fs cost 32 rp instead on 40)
and theres a glyph of pestilence that resets dots and spreads it to an aoe of 20 yards at a cost of 1 blood rune

it gave a debuff of taking more frost damage but it aslo upped the weapon damage by % too

Little corection, Blizz dont have the old cores and information. blizz anounce this fact on the nost closing statment. So blizz make the same like all p server devs ;). And Blizz change alote of stuff skills in the Neo WOTLK Server same in Classic and TBC.
The very fact that the community is already trying to minmax this shit just reinforces my belief in staying as far away from Classic as possible.

this is too complex just to try to be viable when I can just go 0/32/29 and be just as subpar with a simpler rotation.

We tried it the first time around, it wasn't viable after Ulduar. Stick with the 2 hand...believe me.

Blizzard just bases the classic servers off the private cores anyway. Classic and TBC were not Vanillalike at all, they were both just copy paste from Kronos.
I think its way more likely that Wotlk is using the Warmane core than Blizzard puts in any work themselves.

DW unholy is actually a fairly boring rotation. pretty much keep up diseases, and use DND on CD, while refreshing GF before it runs out, thats basically it. The only interesting part is trying to get the biggest gargoyle snapshot you can

@@seansaxon641 yes, its a little different. in the 2h build you will be using scourge strike and blood strike in the rotation, and wont use death and decay on CD, the reason you dont SS or BS in the dw build is because it does alot less damage due to using a 1 hand weapon over a harder hitting 2 hand.
