No offense to these guys but who the hell would live in china when they could live in Japan. Glad your still around Prozzie thought maybe the commies got you. :-)

top 4 stupid questions you'll hear everyday in china: 1 do you speak chinese? 2. can you use chopsticks? 3.oh, you speak but you can't write, can you? 4. will you teach me english?
I have lived in several other countries in the world and experienced this same attitude. I also worked with expats in those countries who spoke the language fluently, and some like C-milk even married "in-country"; but they were never accepted as fellow countryman/woman. Japan, Finland, Germany, India, and even in the UK; where it was a bit better, but I was still reminded at a Pub on occasion that I was, and always would be a "Yank". Maybe because our American Culture was birthed in largely Judeo Christian values ("good Samaritan") and because we needed cheap labor from the "tired and poor huddled masses", that we wrote our laws to allow anyone with enough time and money to become an American. (current political climate not withstanding) Maybe WE are the exception to the rule and should not expect other countries to ever recognize us as one of their own not matter how well we speak the language or adopt their culture?
Actually, it's not about your face, China is not a immigrant country and that's it'. This is something deep rooted in the mind of every Chinese people. Whatever you look like, as long as you are not born in China, you are not Chinese. You may speak good Chinese or have incredible knowledge about China and Chinese culture, but you are sitll not Chinese. (May be if you could get a Chinese citizenship) Don't be a glass heart when people say this to you. They don't mean any harm. If you really don't wanna hear this, then next time, wear a little hat and say you are from Xinjiang.
I studied Chinese in Beijing for two years and during most of that time I was with foreigners. It almost seemed like the school did whatever it could to separate the Chinese students from the foreign students (classes in different buildings, different lunch times, etc...). It's really hard work to actually meet and befriend Chinese people and it's not something you should expect when coming here.
William McNeill, a canadian historian, explained that lack of altruism and respect for social rules might have something to do with how agriculture was organized at the early years of the civilization. In warm climates even small families could be self-supporting by farming which ment that they could remain secluded. In colder climates you would need more expensive equipment to farm the land. To do so, you would have to place trust on strangers, which in turn created rules and respect that extended over your personal family boundaries.
Yeah, but the whole if you want to help your state help your father first straight from Confucianism was criticized by the communists and revolutionaries since it lead to lots of corruption. The Manchu gov in the Qing installed with help from Hideyoshi was rent-seeking so a lot of Chinese left for the country-side like in the Western dark ages so they could avoid the Manchu gov, this self-reliant spirit was bad for development though. China is trying to get rid of corruption and selfish behavior in its own way though.
From the video title and the picture; I thought this was about why Chinese people were leaving China. Even through my crushing disappointment, I enjoyed the video.
I did the last 15 years in China. It was better before Xi Xin Ping's administration, and was better before 2008 Olympics. It has slowly lost what made China unique. Now it is just generic.
I know right? I got to see the last few years of that... I call it the HuJinTao days... those were the days, man. Now it's just "you're just a foreigner so please stay as long as I can still learn Ying-ge-li-shi with you" Oh right and no working permit for anyone!

The smoking around people tho. I did this once, in a designated smoking area(which are also the exits) on a long-distance train in China. And the train came to a halt. One woman told me angrily, "Don't smoke here, so many people". I haven't felt that bad in a long time. I've only been living in Beijing for less than six years, but I find myself having the same conversations with other foreigners as shown in this video. 100% agree.
Pointless trivia: that story at about 6:49 is the same (and more extensive) story told on the ADV video "you will never be chinease". The first video I ever watched on that channel. Now I'm hooked.
I don't understand the hostility in the comments. I'm Chinese myself and I understand where some of their complaints/opinions come from. Personal attacks simply out of the fact that they have an opinion is highly uncalled for.
My first time in china, I picked a city (Shenzhen) m, and a hotel off the Internet. I was 62 and never had been overseas. The first day, I really did think, "what the fuck was I thinking", and hid in my hotel room. I finally got out the next day and started exploring. I've been back 4 more times now. I really enjoy china, and have seen many of the things you guys talk about. It's obviously very different than America, but I really enjoy visiting there. I don't think I could live there though. For me, China's best in small doses. The language barrier is the biggest hurdle for me. I know very little mandarin.
Well Prozzie, watched a lot of your videos lately, including ones on C-Milk's channel. In one of the videos, can't remember which one, you both said that people with Peanut Allergies shouldn't go to China... Just wondering do you still stand by this? I know they use peanuts and peanut oil to cook an awful lot of things. Just wondering, as I hope to move to somewhere in China within the next 6 months, and wondering if I'll be alright with my allergy. I can be around peanuts, just can't consume them. Cheers!!
We're dead serious when we say that. Peanuts are everywhere. I would say the majority of restaurants have peanuts at every table. For your safety I would strongly recommend not coming here. I don't mean to be a dream crusher but I'd hate to see someone get hurt or worse here
I left China after nine months because I was constantly getting sick (including a severe case of Bronchitis) and suffering from food poisoning. I really had no choice. But I am now back for a three month stay and doing okay. So far.
I'm probably the only sicko here who commented on this. @2:57 That cute chick is a curious thing. She's American. She had zero ties with Japan. She's half French, half Filipino. Moved to Japan and became a huge star. Now she lives in Nevada with her half-Japanese daughter, but occasionally pops up on people's DeviantArt pages to represent Japan. BTW the image above is an artwork, not a photo.
Imagine: Vivi has to listen to these C-Milk lectures about reality all day and night long! I like the back and forth between you guys: "It's called 'orientalism'." "I'm not known for knowing words..."
Hey prozzie, thank you for bringing back the format of you and cmilk just talking about god and the world, drinking and eating! Love it! Your content feels so natural and unforced, ceep that up.
I also had an experience like C-Milk's university friend. When my friends from Mexico think that I will never be able to speak English as well as a "white" person or "white" people like my fiancee saying that I have an accent in English but only in a few words and it is not exactly a Mexican accent. It is just the influence of societal norms that shape people's perception of the world. Another example is when people that I have known for a bit once they have become aware of my Mexican heritage believe that I am darker than them or grossly over estimate my melanin concentration. I have to walk up to them and hold my arm up to theirs so they see that my skin tone is lighter than theirs or we are about the same except that they consider themselves "white".
Gabriel Aguilar Yea, interestingly this occurs a lot in, if not more, in the US with all the minorities and different ethnic groups. "Melting pot" be damned
Oh my god, the audio on this video keeps switching from one ear to the other, Its kinda off putting. Got used to it though. Aside from that great vid Proz! Keep churning them out!
As an American I have noticed that most of the world lacks our niceties .. many even call us false, or somehow call it a fault of our culture. No we just try really hard and don't do countless things which ... (no)
i haven't been in china long. going on 3 months but i see what you mean and understand where you are coming from in the video, but i think you could also look at the family orientated culture as a beautiful thing. there is so much to absorb in this culture. yes it isn't some mystical country. its a country like every other country and has people like every other country. but the culture is what makes it and once you immerse yourself you enjoy it. even though i do miss the western ways of doing things, this is a refreshing way to live. i can understand after living here 3+ years how it could start to get old; but i have completely fallen in love with china
Absolutely true, after living in Shanghai and Beijing for 5 years I can fully confirm your assessment. Many Chinese people do not have empathy and unfortunately very often act rather egoistic. Examples: cars not giving way while pedestrians crossing the street, driving with motorbikes on the pedestrian walkway, not queuing, spiting in front of you, etc. I couldn't stand this behaviour anymore. However, I never complained about all of this while I was staying in China, since I was the foreigner. Therefore, I very good advise: Don't complain but go where you came from if you can't stand it anymore. I feel so good to be back in the UK, although I see many Chinese here complaining about the UK; the same advise to them: please go where you came from!
I feel like Cmilk has multiple personalities. Like there's a personality shift depending on who he's with. I'm used to seeing him with Winston, so watching him swearing so freely and deliberately takes a little bit of getting used to. The "brought to you by ADVChina" comment made me laugh. It's like the youtubing version of photobomb or something.
One thing you didn't mention is that in the US (don't know about Canada...), we are raised to not see the nationality of the person because there are so many people that appear to be from a different country, but they are in fact, Americans. So, we would never be able to say, "but you will never be American". Does that make sense?
Hey C-milk, what's up with leaving China? - I don't know, let's find out! This is still the best channel. I hope you're having a great day, thanks for sharing this video :)
OMG its you again....spreading dislikes about China.....Where is your TH-cam partner....the guy with a Chinese girlfriend whose always says welcome to another video.....My god......Stop doing this....You two have always been saying bad thing about China....Seriously, if you donnt like it , leave it....
'you'll never be chinese' should be taught to every laowai who goes to china. learn it first, its easier to live with. too many don't learn it, or just outright ignore it and think it won't happen to them then their whole experience turns bitter when the shit hits the fan. also good to learn that teaching english is a career dead end. yea i think a year and a half is definitely good to just go for a good time.
Matthew, one observation, if you don't mind. You mentioned the guy from the U.K. who studied the Chinese language and who became exceptionally good at the language, but when questioned by a Chinese man and was told that he could never be a "bona fide" Chinese man, he took offense at his words and he decided to leave China. I personally think that the guy over-reacted. No man can change his genes (given to him at birth), but does that mean he is a lesser human being? Of course not! Every person is what he is, by virtue of his birth and ancestry, but that does not mean that different races cannot still interact. The Westerner should have stayed in China if he loved China, and should not have been offended at being reminded how he is still different from the Chinese people.
Jeez....And I just signed a contract yesterday to teach in August in Zhengzhou. Thank God it's just for 10 months. No wonder they wanted to offer me more to sign for two years...
Would you say that people you stay exclusively inside the expat bubble tend to stay longer? Obviously they wouldn't have as much of a Chinese experience as people who actually immersed themselves in the local culture, but would their transition be a little easier?
FUCK YEAH DUUUUUUUUUUDE Prozzie will have to stop cursing once he gets more subscribers tho, the more subscribers you have the more the TH-cam Disney police will be on your back
Guys it isn't Patron. English teachers! What is the difference between Patron and Patreon? Two syllables vs. 3 is the first hint. You can be a patron of Patreon. You've got it from here.
Frankly speaking, Chinese culture is kind of like some "difficult" Chinese food (Stinky Doufu, Century Egg and etc.), it is abundant, deep, complex and takes some time and effort to just get close to the better part of it. Remember, it is 5,000 years old, not just 250 years. China is more than you can apprehend with a few, even 10 years of experience. Be humble, be learning, be thinking and perhaps you can get some real merit of the Chinese culture.
Eh, it depends how you view it. I could say that American culture is also thousands of years old, not just 200. Pretty much any culture that has a continuous written or oral tradition could claim that. The real test is: how much has it changed over time?
When a Chinese guy tells you you'll never be Chinese, you answer him that's OK I have no interest in being Chinese.

8:56 I think accept that you are different and they like it that way. Don't try to be them just be yourself
I left China after nine months because I was constantly getting sick (including a severe case of
Bronchitis) and suffering from food poisoning. I really had no choice. But I am now back for a three month stay and doing okay. So far.
Did you try to drink some tea and eat fermented beans and yogurt?
I'm probably the only sicko here who commented on this. @2:57 That cute chick is a curious thing. She's American. She had zero ties with Japan. She's half French, half Filipino. Moved to Japan and became a huge star. Now she lives in Nevada with her half-Japanese daughter, but occasionally pops up on people's DeviantArt pages to represent Japan.
BTW the image above is an artwork, not a photo.
Imagine: Vivi has to listen to these C-Milk lectures about reality all day and night long!
I like the back and forth between you guys:
"It's called 'orientalism'."
"I'm not known for knowing words..."
One reason for sure, they saw you and got scared or felt sick. Yes ?
This video is dead on. I feel fucking depressed here for all these reasons
Hey prozzie, thank you for bringing back the format of you and cmilk just talking about god and the world, drinking and eating! Love it! Your content feels so natural and unforced, ceep that up.
I don't know why, but your arms look really short in this video, Proz
and thanks for that 7:33
he'll never be a varsity athlete.
Blair thats coz he has a big head, just look at the size of his head and cmilk's , bigger heads make the other parts of your bodies Look shorter..
must be because he has a larger brain.. need all that extra storage space for "ey" and "sorry ey"
Really interesting video ! Thanks.
Great. A New Video from Prozzi
good stuff... keep up the good work
Just tested ADV-Prozzitive. Does this mean no more barebacking China Girls?
The last samurai, In China? Your looking for Japanese movie culture.... in China?
You've got that suave voice. It's actually very radio-like.
As an American I have noticed that most of the world lacks our niceties .. many even call us false, or somehow call it a fault of our culture. No we just try really hard and don't do countless things which ... (no)
At 5:33 you can see the growing concern in C-Milk's eyes for how the comment section is going to look like
i haven't been in china long. going on 3 months but i see what you mean and understand where you are coming from in the video, but i think you could also look at the family orientated culture as a beautiful thing. there is so much to absorb in this culture. yes it isn't some mystical country. its a country like every other country and has people like every other country. but the culture is what makes it and once you immerse yourself you enjoy it. even though i do miss the western ways of doing things, this is a refreshing way to live. i can understand after living here 3+ years how it could start to get old; but i have completely fallen in love with china
Yes, its a real eye opener to the first experience abroad and then adjusting to the reality.
There are a few different C-Milks in this world.
No doubt, no doubt. Which one do you relate the most? haha.
Kinda "what's up" style. Love it. Thanks Prozzie
One thing you didn't mention is that in the US (don't know about Canada...), we are raised to not see the nationality of the person because there are so many people that appear to be from a different country, but they are in fact, Americans. So, we would never be able to say, "but you will never be American". Does that make sense?
great video, please keep going.
Hey C-milk, what's up with leaving China? - I don't know, let's find out! This is still the best channel. I hope you're having a great day, thanks for sharing this video :)
Please dont equate mainland chinese with all chinese people. When u get to taiwan you will see a huge diff
David Ma: absolutely agree with your comment.
Got to love it when a guy demeans his own culture, then proudly says you can't be part of it.
Why do many chinese leave China as well? Most of the chinese that can afford to move to the west, do. There are lots of them in my country too.
OMG its you again....spreading dislikes about China.....Where is your TH-cam partner....the guy with a Chinese girlfriend whose always says welcome to another video.....My god......Stop doing this....You two have always been saying bad thing about China....Seriously, if you donnt like it , leave it....
'you'll never be chinese' should be taught to every laowai who goes to china. learn it first, its easier to live with. too many don't learn it, or just outright ignore it and think it won't happen to them then their whole experience turns bitter when the shit hits the fan.
also good to learn that teaching english is a career dead end. yea i think a year and a half is definitely good to just go for a good time.
so he left china bc his feeling got hurt?
powder77777
😂😂😂
powder77777 i don't think that wanting to be part of the community, and not being able to because of backward values, is very funny
it was a person opinion and not fact.
No, he left because he realized he was wasting his time.
people can't breathe the dirty air and get tired of working for (nearly) no money...the Chinese that is.
I can tell you are from canada every time you say the word "about."
0:55 "Oh, I didn't realize you were dry", said the prozzie to C-Milk. 😜
1:30 Eloquence is not my forte.
1:40 Synopsis?! So you DO know words! 😄
How tall are you Prozzie? Your arms look hella short.
No wonder they wanted to offer me more to sign for two years...
very good guys well informative ...
Prozzie did the fishing pole thing...omg I was dying...too funny
Johnnie Walker Red Label + Coke = perfect combination ........Prozzie knows it!!!!
2:54 that is in Bulgaria (Buzludzha), not Soviet union.
Watching this video with headphones is like having someone swing a speaker like a pendulum behind the whole time. :/
Would you say that people you stay exclusively inside the expat bubble tend to stay longer? Obviously they wouldn't have as much of a Chinese experience as people who actually immersed themselves in the local culture, but would their transition be a little easier?
Thanks for cursing, if you all self censor, I'll unsubscribe. =D Thumbs up.
FUCK YEAH DUUUUUUUUUUDE
Prozzie will have to stop cursing once he gets more subscribers tho, the more subscribers you have the more the TH-cam Disney police will be on your back
'Next time on Dreamcrushers' - yeah you guys are doing your best to dissuade me from coming over aren't you?
Guys it isn't Patron. English teachers! What is the difference between Patron and Patreon? Two syllables vs. 3 is the first hint. You can be a patron of Patreon. You've got it from here.
Its so overpopulated its hard to believe anyone is leaving there
Enjoying your videos more and more prozzie!. Why a foreigner would want to become Chinese is totally beyond me.
this has to be cmilks favourite story
I lived in China for a year (Guilin and Songtao (Miao city)) and am dying to go back!
Prozzie ,
Are you coming to the USA with C-Milk? I hope so. You need to do a meet up with your subs.
