      The American equivalent saying would be, "get off their high horses". This is common in many develop economy. Hong Kong was/is like this for a long time so much so that for the decades, the city has been introducing labor from surrounding poorer countries. It is true in the North America as well.

      I assume the young man did say not everyone can work in a building, presumably doing office work. I appreciate what I think is a growing phenomenon here in the US of young adults choosing trades over university educations, since various trades here have shortages of skilled workers and our workers can make a comfortable living working in such trades, at least for the foreseeable future. Perhaps no parallel to this phenomenon exists right now in China.

      This is a very interesting topic. During the Gilded Age 1920s, I imagine many Americans were aspired to make quick money not through working in the factories and on farms. Then the Great Depression happened and the ensuing World War II brought US to the height of manufacturing and decades of prosperity...

    • @pat4005
      @pat4005 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      I'm curious about what you mean about "the countryside which isn't there in Europe or the US."?
      The US is filled outside of cities, full of amazing and varied countrysides!
      Vast forested areas of wilderness, pastoral grassy plains with colorful wildflowers, and gentle rolling hills leading up to mountain ranges like the Rockies, which cover 3,000 miles across North America (from New Mexico to British Columbia are there for all to enjoy.
      A sub-range of the Appalachian Mountains, the Great Smoky Mountains is another and is known for the fog hanging around the tops of the peaks, leading to the "smoky" effect which it is named after.
      And then there is Grand Teton which encompasses 485 square miles of natural beauty.
      Another is the Sierra Nevada mountain range, which is so vast that it has three national parks and each is full of both breathtaking and serene views, wildlife of all kinds, hiking, camping and other outdoor experiences.
      Those are Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park, and Kings Canyon National Park.
      These places are a few among many that offer both serene landscapes, and bubbling brooks, strong rivers and stunning waterfalls of all shapes and sizes.
      Each of the 50 states has it's own special characteristics. Some have lush green hilly countrysides, dotted with family farms and homesteads, and others have deserts with amazing rock formations that you will find nowhere else in the world.
      And with all the coastline, there is a vast difference between the variety of shorelines of the East and West coasts, not to mention the marshlands, river deltas and the Everglades.
      That is just the "tip-of-the-iceberg", and it can probably never be fully explored in just one lifetime.
      So I have no idea how you can say that the countryside isn't there in Europe or the US, as you can see plenty of it even here on TH-cam, and books and magazines.

    As a chinese who currently lived in us, this vedio brought me back to my lovely hometown Shanghai😭 Talking about the high unemployment rate, many people will point out two factors. The first factor is that China is transitioning from labor-intensive to capital - and technology-intensive industries, but the latter absorb fewer jobs than the former. The second factor is that the current distribution system needs to be reformed, and young people at the bottom are afraid to marry because they lack money. Many people think the government should copy the Nordic welfare state and tax the rich heavily. All in all, I am glad to see that cyrus is promoting the exchanges between the two countries. As I have met a lot of super nice people since I came to the us, I also hope that more Americans can go to China to see what Chinese really look like.

    • @spafon7799
      @spafon7799 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the Nordic countries tax the middle class heavily to fund their welfare programs. That's where the money is. It might be a good idea for China to do that also, but the first source of money for social programs ought to come from ending the massive stealing and wasting of money by the Xi Jinping regime.

      China has many beautiful places and a lot of great infrastructure and beautifully designed and lighted buildings. In America environmentalists do not want anything but solar and wind and maybe some bike paths. Many great parks, infrastructure, and buildings were created in the last 100 years. Unfortunately, we are just sitting on our laurels trying to figure out where our country should go next. Drugs are killing off many who cannot seem to find a place to fit in. We are losing our work ethic as more and more are finding it easier to rely on the government.

Putin invaded because NATO and America has ignored all the promises and agreements they gave. The Analogy of that is American ignoring one Chine principle, acting as if Taiwan was an independent country. Which is not. China strives for peaceful reunification but if America is planning to stir the pot, Chinese are prepared to go the forcefully way as well. In Ukraine Putin had no other choice. They refused to give him any guarantees, they trained terrorists to infiltrate Russia. They even refused Zelensky to sign a peace deal in the first weeks of war. Now we see Ukraine in total ruins. Chinese and Taiwanese must do everything possible to kick out Americans out of their affairs or history will repeat itself with Taiwan. And it wont end well for Taiwan.

While parts of the rural China can be amazingly beautiful, Chinese themselves view country folks as mostly the "low end people" (a term the Chinese created in their caste system where the Communist Party members are well taken care of, while the country folks and laborers are labelled the "low end people".) You are just one person but seeing day to day life on the streets of China and being able to listen to average Chinese people speak about their lives reduces the mystery and fear that the western media would have us feel toward the country. The scenes of you walking through the streets are always interesting but the more powerful part of your videos are the interviews with individuals. If you can, I think we would love to see interviews with a larger variety of people of different ages, different social status, and in different cities. Please keep up the good work!

      Absolutely nothing like life in most of China. Same goes for all of the top tier cities. You can walk several blocks north or south from any of the tourist traps and get a slightly more realistic taste. Head north of Meilan Lake or west of Hongqiao Railway Station if you really want to see how different life is outside the city. Better yet, visit any of the villages in Jiangsu.

    Just to share. I went to Shanghai in early 1986, after I took over the CFO of the Chiina operation of the largest foreign bank, might be you see that as a local bank. Then, we were situated in the alley of a godown building, cheaper rent, as our headquarter buildings had been confisticated. I stayed across the bridge in Shanghai Mansion, close to the office behind the Bund. I went to Lido Hotel with the Branch Manager to take our lunch. And the Branch Manager just scribbled the amount of the bill, on his business card with the cashier, as he claimed credit card was not acceptable there? The restaurant would send its staff member to collect the cash later from our Branch. Night time, we still had curfew, and PLA patrolled the streets in two. Things have since much, that now our Branch has moved to its new Regional Quarters in Shanghai, or perhaps better called China.

It was the one food I really missed travelling around China then along with milk & chesse.

    Amazed to see the changes. My parents live in China and they visit nyc where I live and let me tell you China lives in 2050. It still needs to work on a lot of internal issues and laws as it’s still a developing country. A lot young people have left the countryside for the city therefore, a lot of local schools eventually closed. No worrries. The remaining kids go to the next larger school. I’d need more than this comment section to share everything my parents and I talk about. Everything from positive and criticism of the Chinese government and xi . Yes criticism of the government is allowed!!
