You’re the most slept on channel in the automotive TH-cam niche. No annoying and overplayed cornball antics. You actually show what you’re doing from a POV, not just a wide shot to leave us imagining the repair. I hope your channel takes off big time.

    My mom had a 57 with a 283..
My dad bought it for her on her birthday in 1962 ...
I was born a month later & she had it until I was 7...
My dad finally talked her into selling it by tempting her with a new 69' Impala with a 327 & a 4 speed on the floor ...
She always said she regretted selling it , but when I was in high school , I found a 57 the same color ...
It didnt have an engine or a transmission , but in the late 70's you could buy a chevy small block for close to scrap price ...
It came with a column shift , but I went to the salvage yard & bought a column . Then I found a 327 bolted to a 4 speed & put it together in my uncles garage...
I drove it home & when she saw it she teared up ...
I drove it to school sometimes , but mostly my mom drove it to run errands ..
She even got her 1st speeding ticket in it at the age of 40...

The thing I've always loved about the older inline 6 engines is that (for the most part) everything is very accessible.
Kudos for replacing the six with a six. Too many people seem to think an oversized V8 needs to be shoehorned into any car like this.
Have to say, I kind of like the understated styling of the '56 Chev. It's not a bad design.
Watching this was so much fun, I'm going to do it again once the subtitles are uploaded!

@@SimonFordman I know you spend a lot of time on your videography and editing, but you should consider putting out shorter videos more often. Looks good. I thought that was a 261 since it's painted green, but no captain's bars...it's a 235 truck engine. I wish you had re-installed the generator instead of leaving it in the scrap yard. Everyone thinks the world turns on a 1-wire alternator but they look out of place. I had prepared myself that the sediment bowl was going in the garbage too but you saved it. Yes, the bronze thing is the filter and can be re-used until the end of time. The only reason they went to inline paper filters and paper air cleaners was COST. They cost less to produce and MORE for the customer to replace over and over. The gray sludge in the bottom of the pan is lead residue from the leaded gas used up until 1975. Hoped you washed it off. The headlights are pre-74, identified by the fluting in the lens.

A friend had me convinced to yank it out and put in a 348 cu in from a '58 Impala. Fortunately (or not) the 348 had a cracked block, so the 235 stayed in it. From this video, I see now what I might have faced if I had gone that route. Later on I might have been mechanically able, but not at 17 yrs old. This video was great! Just the thought that having this thing running, despite it's flaws, means something to someone. Nothing wrong with a flip, but cool to think there's something deeper going on; that this car is special.

Simon, you are a genius! I watch on our main TV then iPad and then , rewatching again a few days or a month later, the lack of narration very much allows for a much more learning experience rather than having to visually and audibly do so which sometimes aren’t in sync with each other and mabetter suited

Loved watching this video!! Just straight up mechanical work..........no unnecessary dialogue, no annoying music. That was a fast 2 hours.....lol. But it was worth every second. Good to see content worth watching.......even more so from a fellow Minnesotan. Wish i had half the knowledge you have.......I'd be able to do my own repairs on my '66 Newport. Well done!!

And the fact you were on 494 with this thing, I have a hard enough time with a semi!

This would be the type of thing I would want to do if I ever learn how to become a mechanic, since these cars do not deserve to die like that. Sins of the father, not the son.

Questa macchina è indistruttibile. Se andavi a newiork negli anni 70 ne trovavi ha migliaia per le strade. Erano i classici taxi newyorchese.

You're bringing back a lot of ģood memories..
    I had a 63 1/2 Galaxie 406 four-speed..solid lifter..red on red back in 68..
    Fun car..
Introduced me to every cop in town and most Sheriffs wirhin a 15 mile radius..
Also cost me my license for a year...
Town cops usually cut me a break..they got parts at the yard..
    Sheriffs..not so much..lol

Hey Simon, love your channel, these videos are perfect chill out material. I know it’s not really your forte, but it’d be great to see more of the stuff that’s removed and worked on deep cleaned down to the patina before reinstalling. It would really add that extra level of “satisfaction” to the videos.

I had that car, in the mid 70's, a 2-door sedan w/ the window post, and a 265 V-8, three-on-the-tree... Got it for the shop bill to rebuild the motor, [ $580.00 ]. It handled like a boat, and steered like a tank; no power steering, 15 mpg, real American Iron...

I noticed your license plate frame!!!!! Bob-Coyle Chevrolet was a dealer located downtown San Jose California from the late 40s to the early 60s. They were famously known for sponsoring Jungle Jim Liberman during his early days of drag racing. They moved to N First street San Jose Calif.near highway 101 in the 1960s. I worked there (at the parts department) in the 70s when is was Coyle-Billings then just Billings Chevrolet.

@SimonFordman you need a clone, so you can rescue all these beautiful vehicles.
The new pixar cars movie should have a character named Simon Ford as Car Jesus!
btw do you have a trade background or is it all self taught?
