Hey the bike sounds great. I just bought a 2014 KTM 690 Duke with an Akrapovic slip on and it still sounds a little quiet....do you know how to remove the baffle as the hex bolt is on the inside and a tamper proof nut on the outside which can be seen thru the round inspection hole in the carbon fibre piece. Any info would be appreciated. cheers
The UK version does 125-130 with standard gearing. It does get a bit more laboured at a tonne though. Up the rear sprocket to 42 teeth and it reduces top speed obviously but the pull in 6th is much better at higher speeds. Feels much better at lower speeds and accelerating hard too. Not sure what the top speed is with this gearing as I haven't maxed it out since getting the sprocket on.
90mph? How is it geared? I mean a KTM 525 bike can go all of that with supermoto tires. How else can a 690 give same or less ?? I'm no hard core enthusiast but I do tend to look into things.
My Duke 690 2013 top speed (with Akrapovic slip-on exhaust) was 116 mph (187 km/h) on a race track, so 120 mph with full throttle for a longer time should be possible. The most important thing is to shift at ~ 99 mph from gear 5 to 6 (7.500 rpm), otherwise you won't have enough torque and hp to reach 120 mph.
RipsDiner I got 193 on the speedo at Phillip Island track. Just the slip on. Can't wait to get rid of the cat. My mate rode my bike past me up the street yesterday and made me realise what an awesome, meaty thump it puts out. Rips the tyres all the way to the edge and then some.
Sounds good, love the bike. But the single cylinder worries me, it may struggle at higher speeds, and if it dies down around 90mph thats pretty bad. I'm looking to upgrade my drz400sm soon, and it dies at 85. This 690 should do way better.
I'm not suprised your having a little trouble trying to sell it because its a weird size(displacement). People normally go to 300s and 600s :) I would just keep looking around, everyone finds the right bike with time.
The torque and handling are so much fun on the 690. You need good stomach muscles to do long distance travel which sorts the men from the boys. I managed 193kmh flat out down hill with a tail wind.
+Dulf Nordensvärd You're completely missing the point if all you're worried about is top speed. A 600cc super-sport produces VERY little power in the low and mid-range. This bike produces torque right off idle. Meanwhile you're still trying to rev to 18,000,000,000,000 RPM trying to make any power. Sure, a 600cc will blow past this bike eventually. But the 690 Duke is lighter, punchier, and more fun.
yeah shure they do, but when do you come across a straight 500 meter long road with no speeding limit, no cops and no cars/kids/pedestrians you don't have to worry about ? probably not often.. and by the time you get there, the one driving the 690 will be a mile ahead of you.. unless u drive on the huge motorways? but then again, owning a bike is more or less worthless..got my 690 r I may, haven't had any problems driving past gsxr 600 and a zx6r.. easy to ride, fun, easy to wheele and jeez it's pretty if you put some powerparts on it!
+Henrik Andressen Thanks for the help, it just feels like a small bike on crack. Not a real motorcycle or am im wrong in this ? I have the mt 07 and it also almost feels like a moped in size, i just wanna have fun and is still torn if i did the wrong in not getting the duke!
+Dulf Nordensvärd well, I have driven it for the past year now and I can see why you compare it with the 07. yes it is small, and yes it is light (149 kg approx.) so yeah it does seem small compared to my friends zx 10. For me, the size was a deal breaker, because I live just outside of a city with bad traffic, so a small and easy bike with enough hp was all I needed. then again I don't know the situation you are in. The 690 is great on highways and yeah for some models it vibrates even tho I don't actually pay it that much attention, can be me or just others who are to hung up in it. So you have to look it from your point of view. I do love it and have already bought the 1290 r 2016 black, but will still keep the 690 r, because it is just something with it. Don't know I this helps or just makes it way worse, but I will recommend the 690 r, if and only if, you are looking for a hooligan bike, with great riding experience, great handling and just the amount of power that you need, and I have to admit I do love the orange details.. so in total, if you are looking for a small bike with lot of fun, the 690 is great but if you are looking for a "big boy" bike, then there might be others who suit you better. let me know what the result will be!
Love the unrefined, soulful sound
Nasty sound 😎😎

beebrett, which Akrapovic do you have? The one with the cam modification? Or the one with the SAS removal kit?

Are you out in Hawaii man?
Hi I have a 390 duke and was wondering how and where I can get one of those full exhaust system for mine let me know
so its not just the slip on?
where did you buy the exhaust system?
Motoworld of El Cajon

Have you topped it out?
For the most part. Once it goes past 90mph, it doesn't feel like it has that much more to give. I'm sure it could make it past 100mph though.
beebrett619 This bike should normally reach a little less then 120mph. Are you sure it is on full power?

Yeah i've been wondering about the cat, isn't it insanely loud when it is removed with no db killer or is it sill acceptable?

What did you end up getting?
Vince Pullin Nothing yet. Still trying to sell the drz. Really liked the fz-07 when I rode it.

i meant pronounced :)
MrAxileas Well in that case you are right haha
Duke r in uk does 128.8 mph don't no why is version is so slow
Dat is too loud for the microphone :D
isnt this bike a little slow? not even 120mph? and having trouble reaching it? no wonder 600cc bikes smokes it!
