I totally agree with all of this. I do car cruise and show videos all summer. People need to quit sitting in front of the car. The public wants to see your car and not you. If they have a question or want to talk, they'll find you.
One thing about leaning over on a quarter panel is that many times a person's belt buckle or zipper will make a scratch on the paint. I found this out the hard way when I went in for a minor timing adjustment and noticed I had marked up my front while grabbing the distributor. Most people of age already know how to handle themselves in HONORABLE shows. But it's good to remind
Well said Gary...also just don't sit in your lawn chair all day behind your car, get up once and a while hand have a look at all the other rides on display. We all have pride in our rides and welcome the on lookers and coments......
I personally haven't heard of anything disrespectful lately we car folk generally look after each other, I feel comfortable leaving my vehicle unattended when I shoot videos however I always have friends close by also
Excellent advice Gary as the bulk of us Car Shows Vets usually do the things you mentioned but your tips are great advice for people that are just starting to attend events.
Great video Gary. Some of the behavior I have seen at car events makes me wonder how people could be so ignorant. Riding bikes and skateboards anywhere near the cars is the one that enrages me and should be stopped. One mistake or fall and someone's prized possession can be seriously damaged. The leaving the event doing a burnout part was spot on too, although it is one that I may have been guilty of a long time ago (almost everyone used to do it). That is until I saw a lady leaving a show at Kelvin's Tire years ago put a nice Challenger or Cuda, can't remember which, into a power pole leaving the event. Too much can go wrong plus it makes the organizer of the event look bad. The car community is under a microscope these days and we can't make ourselves look like idiots.
Ya Rick you make several good points and I was present at the event when the car hit the pole it was a all around bad deal at an otherwise great event thanks for the comments kind words and watching I appreciate it bud 👍
I have been in the events and display industry for many years. Car shows, home shows and promotional events. Beyond a clean and accessible car one thing is to have signage of the car. It’s make, model year and maybe a bit of history of the cars …a brochure and a holder placed near the car. Sometimes on an open engine or in front of the car. It’s also good to have a small display board too that you can present the cars history or the cars various stages of restoration. It adds more interest to the car. Just to park a car on grass or lot to me is not enough to present a car properly and to a variety of different visitors. It also helps if you’re not with the car a certain points of the show.
I entered my Rivian Electric Truck into my local car show but didn’t even win in the other category 😂 I didn’t expect to really, people are not really ready for EVs just yet . Most owners spending thousands on their engines and I had free bottled water on ice under my hood. I probably had the most people asking questions and smiling at a vehicle they had never seen before. I had fun sharing it with people.👍
There's always that one guy that has to nail it when he leaves, but sometimes there is a well-placed light pole that stops him from going to the next show. 😁
Remembering the oldAACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) car show requirements - it never hurts to have and display a fire extinguisher at the front driver side tire, just in case it' needed.
Thank you for your tips and I agree with you on everything you said except one thing and before I start, you did ask for us to leave an opinion in the comments so let me get started and get people really angry at me. I guess I am just an old irresponsible derelict person (banana head) because I love to hear the cars get on it a little when they leave the event. I always hang around late just to see the cars leave. When I see an old Muscle car or Rod, I like the looks AND what made them special was the sound and power. I know accidents may happen, even when not driving spirited, accidents can happen, but come on I think most people that have a show or performance car can get on it a little without hitting a pole or whatever (eye rolling). If I ran a car show, I would try to even set up a burnout lane where a person could safely do it and the fans would love it, well at least performance car fans would love it. I've seen it done and it is awesome. I bet I am not alone on this. It's their car, they are now on the public street, they are responsible for what they do and the cops own them now. The car show sponsors are not responsible for the persons actions out on the streets. If you think they are, then you tell me how far down the road a person has to be before the Show sponsors are not held responsible? The cop is going to ticket the driver not the Car show sponsor. However I may have misunderstood you completely and you are only referring to people that floor it and hit high speeds. As for me, I pop that pedal pretty hard every now and then just going to buy groceries. Now everyone can blast me for my opinion but unlike the majority of people these days, I won't be offended LOL.
I like your comments Dennis and certainly if you put on your own car show I would attend and your right everyone participating would enjoy it however this event would have to be held outside our city limits and I'll explain why , things have really changed in the last 10yrs and long gone is the simple muffler ticket , there's been a really huge problem surrounding noise violations in the city and the police service has resorted to stronger measures, they now issue safety inspections to classics and hot rods and I can tell you as a safety officer that holds a ticket this will pull your hot rod off the road and deem it unregisterable by SGI also recently SGI is in the process of setting up noise inspection stations and if you're vehicle doesn't meet the DB requirements it's also pulled off the road , the location your probably referring to is the cars and coffee deal where we already have two businesses not happy with the event and this conduct would give them further ammo to shut it down, we don't want that ! You see while us car people enjoy the sound of a hot rod the general public does not , I have personally sat in meetings with the city of Saskatoon, the city Police service and SGI regarding this issue and our classic cars and I also sit on a committee working with SGI to keep our classics on the road in their current configuration, this is a very slippery slope if you choose to leave events in our city with the foot to the floor it's drawing negative attention to our fun little events that 90 percent of the city's population don't approve of, I hope this answers some of your questions and I appreciate the comments always thanks 😀
@@garythegear Agreed. It's tough when you love Hot Rods! Maybe we should have car shows at dragstrips, they can let a little steam off there. I also see soon the EV converted rods getting on it, but there will be no sound.
The drag strip in an awesome place to blow off steam in front of a captive audience, it's like a rolling car show on its own, we also have auto clearing motor speedway that allows you to take your hot rod on the track to have fun I just posted this event on my community page this morning, both great options and I think it's also important to support these local tracks we're so lucky to have here
Great tips and YES I have avoided nice rides I would have liked to see had it not been for a bunch of people in chair sitting in front of or right beside it..

I quit going to car shows that charge you to get in because I never ever win anything. I have a 1974 Lincoln Continental Mark VI, never wins trophies. Not even one. It's in excellent showroom condition. The only cars that get trophies are 1995 broncos, 2009 to 2023, mostly mustangs, corvettes and trucks. Ridiculous. Now, I only go to cruise-ins which don't charge money to enter.
I personally don't attend anything with hopes of bringing home a trophy, 99 percent of everything I attend is an outdoor venue with free entry , I do however support a very small number of indoor events that require an entry fee especially those that donate the proceeds to a worthy charity, typically its always the highest dollar trailer queen entry that takes home a trophy but I attend these to be around friends and like minded individuals that just enjoy the cars
For people planning on having a car show..Specify what is allowed..If its classics then specify..nothing is more frustrating going to a car show and see these old classic cars that guys spent hours on rebuilding a car and days searching for parts and then Judges give awards to someone with a car manufactured in the 2000's...i refuse to even go to a car show that lets newer cars in to the show when any one of those cars can be found at any car lot..Thanks for the tips..Not running down the newer stuff but i hate it when they pass up these old timers that spent hours and hours then someone bought a 2012 F-150 off the lot ready to go and walks away with the award..SPECIFY what is allowed ..simply put on your ad that pre 19 whatever and older would save me from wasting my time
I certainly agree, several years ago I was a judge at a large indoor event where a club had a display with examples of a specific brand ranging from 1965 to present day , it was difficult to judge the brand new car with almost no miles on it knowing that the 65 model had lots of blood sweat and tears invested and the new model had zero
Completely disagree with both of you some of us, modern muscle car owners actually put a lot of time into the interior, the details on the outside, the airbrushing under the hood, and many other customization things. To say that we don’t put our blood sweat and tears in it is just asinine.

@@OhioMovieMania You can disagree all you want but to me a classic car show means just that..classic cars..a 2000 something car certainly doesn't qualify as a classic car let alone deserve an award when they are a dime a dozen..You can buff.. shine ..paint and spend countless hours on your newer vehicle and thats all good but to me it's about preservation and the time and years these cars had someone care for it to make it worthy of the award as a classic automobile..If someone wants to put on a car show and they agree to let the newer stuff in and be judged then don't call it a classic car show..The time alone spent searching for parts for some of the classics takes time and effort and when a guy with a 2000 something can run up to Autozone and buy almost anything they need..It's all about preservation and with these old cars i guarantee you that ten times the amount of time was spent in care than what any newer automobile owner spent on theirs..It's simple..if your having a car show simply put what your allowing in and to be judged and it will save the rest of us time..If they are advertising a classic car then that's all i am there to see..i can see all the others at mo

That sounds like a great purchase, if Colorado is anything like here in Canada then you simply show up with your car at outdoor events, car folks are pretty good about welcoming new people to the hobby, now if you're referring to indoor events that's a little different and usually there is some for of registration required beforehand, I would simply show up and ask lots of questions I'm sure you will be well received 😀
I have a Hummer H2 would it be an issue if I opened up all the doors , hood, and rear hatch, And have tire hitch exposed as well? This is my first car show. Thx mate
Sure open doors this is fine as long as room allows, I might remove the hitch just to keep from anyone getting hurt especially when inviting people to get really close thanks for watching and the comments have fun with your H2
Couldn’t disagree more about pets. Leave them at home. Leash doesn’t prevent jumping, an event is hours long usually on concrete. I love dogs - they don’t belong at a car show.
Well police officers here don't like it and the general public here doesn't like it , alot of hese videos I'm sharing are from the interior of a large city and not on the outskirts of redneck village, certainly if there's an accident and people are hurt and property is damaged then what seriously then what ?? It's simply not encouraged here for all the above reasons we have two local tracks we can burn off steam at and be totally safe and legal
I never once said people don't like hearing cars? I tell everyone my cars sound system is by flowmaster , I did talk about being respectful and not flooring your car when leaving an event those are two very different things

Turns out we did. Now I think it was planned because they had staff stage at the exit with cameras. And the cop was clapping. It's really a time and place thing. We also did it on a closed street.
@GoingYooper certainly when it's organized in a safe and respectful manner it can be a good thing, location is always key , and the odd secluded events sometimes host burnout competitions I'm all for that however most of our weekly events here are held in locations that make this impossible and a huge liability issue for the vender etc etc but it it works in your locations that's awesome

What if my hood opens backwards, and I have a hatch? I assume open the hatch, but then do I sit in front of the hood?

Burnouts are encouraged at our shows. People even line up near the exits to record and the police officer loves it as well. So wrong again.
