- Why I won't be having another diesel Fiesta and why you won't be either! Diesel cars are quickly being phased out as they have been found to cause more harm to the environment than petrol cars. This is a huge U-turn to what we were all told 10 years back and diesel cars were sold as being greener.

Twenty years will go by really quickly. It only seems like yesterday we were celebrating the year 2000. I'm 55 and as you get older the years go by quicker.
I remember the 2000 celebrations well because I was vacuuming an airplane. Time is a thief.

i learnt in a 1.5 diesel fiesta from i think 2014, good car to learn in and now i have a 1994 micra and love it so much
Do Fiesta not still do the 100ps 1.0 petrol ecoboost? I loved that car but ended up changing due to no fault of my own?
So what are the options for a diesel car to teach with? fiesta I find them bit small.. I have a new micra 1.5 diesel it is handling terribly,no torque at low speed/gears,huge blind spot etc..there is maybe the Clio and can't really think any other car:(
What opppinion would you give me if I buy 1.5TDCi engine ford fiesta ? Are they good ?.
its been pretty cool seeing you do your stuff man, the whole hypno thing ive always wondered the powers of the human brain, and what our brains are capable of within ourselves. Ive never dabbled even slightly in it, but it certainly makes me curious. I start my driving lessons back up on the 7th!
I learnt in a 1.6 tdi golf. Loved that car, diesels are louder, which imo helps learners hearing what the engine is doing
I had a diesel fiesta MK7.5 for my first car 2 years ago, no tax as emissions were below 100 and was a great reliable car. Unfortunately a year after my car got written off as I got smashed into. I bought a MK7.5 petrol fiesta after, a 140hp ecoboost and I personally prefer it, I don’t usually like diesel cars but the diesel fiesta was faultless but the petrol Ecoboost is very impressive. I was put off going from a 1.5 diesel to a 1.0 petrol but the power is very good and surprised me a lot, the torque is less but is still more than enough to not be noticeable, was also cautious of this engine cause of the overheating problems in the press but had no temperature issues, always stays perfect and is very smooth on the road. Definitely better than a zetec engine as they feel gutless. Also pointing out the economy is great for a petrol engine too, can do around 55-60mpg on the motorway.
I learned and passed in a manual diesel Corsa, now in a petrol manual VW Polo. I'm not convinced by electric cars, frankly if I was on a long journey I would rather have a full tank of diesel or petrol than batteries. Plus what about people in rural areas, how would they cope with only electric cars?
And the people in 3rd world countries who have to get the cobalt and lithium for electric cars.
Gavin battery range is improving year by year. The Tesla electric cars will do around 300miles on a single full charge - that range is almost identical to the big engine petrol automatic Astra I had many years ago. So for the most part you could just charge it at home. However, I’m a realist - we are not there yet....
Only a Tesla car will do that kinda range, starting from £40,000. If you get a cheaper Nissan Leaf, you prob won’t even get 200miles range. City electric cars (the cheapest option) such as the Skoda electric citi go, Seat Mii electric, + forthcoming Honda electric hatchback have even less range (circa 150miles) - which severely limits their application.
Not everyone has a driveway at home to park on for charging + even if your electric car can do 300miles, you may still need to top up while out and about or on a very long trip. So public charging points - more of them will be essential if every car is to an electric one. Linked to this, charging times are still an issue + there are too many differing designs. Eg, you can’t charge a Nissan Leaf on a public Tesla charger. You can charge the Tesla on a Nissan public charging point, but at a much slower rate than on a Tesla charger. I actually think this issue is going to become more of an issue in the next few years as more people come across it.
I do have a driveway which could be adapted but the range of the more affordable electric cars isn’t yet good enough for me. I’m also concerned about those issues around public charging points. So for me, it would be a hybrid.
I know diesels have more torque, but definitely have a look at the 1.0 ecoboost petrol Fiesta. They are the 1.0l with the turbo, with options of 100ps, 125ps or 140ps. I've got a 2013 1.0 ecoboost, only 100ps but it's still a great drive. The 1.0 may put you off, but try driving one of these cars, they have plenty of power even when loaded with people and luggage.
How long has there been a test centre at Cocksmoor Woods?
A couple of years now. It was only meant to be temporary to cut waiting times but it's become permanently temporary. Kings Heath test centre was closed for 3 weeks in November for refurbishment but you'd never know, even the chairs in the waiting room are still ripped so I don't know what took 3 weeks.
@@1stdrive Crikey. I knew there was a centre in King's Heath but didn't realise they had taken over the car park there.
@@mark747captain It's not just the car park, they have an office inside. The whole of the bottom end of the car park is now used to practise bay parking though.

One question, do driving instructors own their cars? Do they buy them with their own money or is it covered by the driving school?
Both, some work for themselves using their own cars, others work for companies who pay a franchise fee, and in return they get a company car . But both are work as self employed
I'm pretty sure the manual only/automatic only thing on the driver licenses in Europe will be gone within a few years. As for an electric car, once you drive one it is not very tempting to go back to a petrol car. It just feels way better to drive! And i'm especially fond of Tesla, since they pretty much can give you a "new" car via their updates.
Love diesel cars no plan on swapping.
Some EV’s don’t even have a gearbox and definitely not manual gearboxes. Diesels are fading away but manufactures don’t want to admit it yet because they still are heavily invested in the technology but in few years thing start to happen.
Passed in a 1.4 diesel fiesta. I’ve had a 1.1 petrol Peugeot 206. And now a 1.0 eco boost fiesta 66 plate which is the love of my life.
January 17th this year will be my second year since I passed my test.

Yes, you are completely correct about electric cars not having gears and hence why they are classed as automatic due to the lack of any gear change at all. You get instant 100% torque whenever you want to. No need for being in a certain rpm range like in an internal combustion engine car in order to squeeze out maximum power out of it when you need to.

1stdrive I test drove a Tesla Model X while I studied in UK near Birmingham and I found it quite odd how if you lift your foot of the gas(or throttle as it is called in an electric)as you would in a regular car when coasting, it starts slowing down like you’re braking. That was the only thing that I had to get used to(not being able to coast) but other than that, it was like driving any other automatic car. The other new thing is how you would be used to hearing something when starting the car but the sound of an electric when pressing the start button is equivalent to that of starting up a tablet

Hybrid petrol-electric is prob the way to go as a stepping stone technology until electric only cars become more mature, cheaper, better range, more public charging points etc.
..tho I think nearly every hybrid is also automatic only.
You will prob need 2 cars for the transition period...the regular car with manual + an electric or hybrid with automatic/gearless.
Right now most learners will want to learn in the regular car, but as electric + hybrid cars roll out and change the car market in the U.K., more people will want to learn in one of those.
The newer shape fiesta has the 120 ps engine
It's the newer shape one I'm driving in this video but you can't get a diesel fiesta anymore at all. They sold the last ones with an 85ps engine then scrapped them all due to no interest according to Ford. They say something like 5% of all Fiesta's sold were diesel but I don't know if I believe that.
@@1stdrive this is a mark 7 they do a mark 8 with the 120 bhp. They are rare old cars now.

@N N did you ever get the rattle of doom in the VW? Iv got the polo tsi 1.2 and even though iv covered around 20k in it just under 2 years iv had timing chain issues. PCV breaking off willy nilly and handbrake problems
@N N yeah, mine was stretching and then the rear offside stopped working with the handbrake and only the nearside was working

absolute rubbish i have one and the emissions are so low i dont pay tax
Diesels produce less harmful gasses as far as the emissions test goes but they produce a range of nitrogen compounds which are far more damaging. That's why many people falsely think diesels are greener.
Paul Sweet if you buy a 2018+ car, you do....doesn’t matter if it’s diesel, petrol, hybrid.......if it’s got an engine you pay the tax. The only zero tax cars are electric only models. The gov changed the rules.
Never liked or owned a diesel but I have driven plenty. I'll personally stick to my performance cars that run on petrol.
