Such a refreshing style of presenting, Matt; no crazy thumbnails and misleading titles, no wild gesticulating. It sets you apart from so many other TH-camrs, and you're all the better for it. And it's so great to see everyday cars bought, refurbed and sold. Keep up the good work.

  • @thierryvt
    @thierryvt ปีที่แล้ว +2

I had one of these when I was a young lad around 2012 or so because it was exactly as you say: a small cheap frugal good looking car that does not have the horsepower to get you into trouble and costs fuck all to run. But mine was a better spec! It had climate control and cruise control. And had a better looking body-kit but that might've been after-market.
Didn't much like the engine in it though, those 1.6l diesels were rattly and had quite a few issues. Mine smoked a lot on cold starts and developed a pretty substantial shudder as one of the injectors broke.
Dealer couldn't get it out and eventually offered to replace the whole engine (under warranty) with another used one. Which had a cracked cooling something or another so had to have that fixed. Then the EGR valve failed so had to have that fixed. Then the trunk button started shorting out and the trunk would open randomly any time I came to a stop (probably a safety thing) so had to have that fixed. Apart from that it was a reliable car though!
Luckily for me it was all under warranty and as far as I know they did really do all the fixes as they said they did. On the other hand I very much doubt they still had any profit left by the end of all that.

In Northern Ireland we have 7 MOT Test Centres (garages are not permitted to MOT). Each have 5 lanes similar to boarding a Ferry. The car mounts the system and comes out the other end, pass or fail. If failed you must re-book again and wait a few weeks for re-testing. In the meantime the car cannot be taxed or insured. If an accident occurs, the driver is liable for all costs and Penalty Points on licence.

at a £108.16 profit, (yes I did work it out) its hasnt covered the cost of the video. Hopefully the YT moneytruck rolled in for this one. Even though it is only a little more than 100 quid and bearly covers your food shop, I am thrilled you did it Matt. Its a testiment to you, your person and character and as I am starting my own business its a great inspiriation that you can do it with honesty and integrity. so this one small bump speaks volumes to many. I think thats helps make it worth doing. So cheers!

@@justinn6865I've never seen a good looking set. Even when someone has spent thousands on a set of wheels for an Aston Martin or something similar they always look naff to my eyes. Standard wheels always look better as far as I'm concerned.

The problem with fast Fords is the people that drive them: first owner makes an effort, owner two onwards just pimps them, focusing on the appearance (ruining of) and not the mechanicals. See also every Vauxhall Coarser.

Couple of years ago bought one of these for my sons first car, they are brilliant and easy to work on. Check the spare wheel well for water as they are prone to leaking from the vents behind the rear bumper, sealant and tape fixed ours!

VAT on your gross profit sure, but you always forget that you will recover it on outlay. Assuming your tradespeople are registered and you spent over £1,800, then you have £300+ to reclaim on your next return.

Thought I'd do the maths for ya, if you did sell it for your asking price you'd have a profit of £107.26 (this doesn't include fuel, tax, insurance etc). So tbf that isn't really any profit. However, you didn't make a loss and you turned and old banger into a super nice car. Got a decently received video out of it too. Looks like a lovely drive so give yourself a pat on the back!

Good video. Although you wouldn’t want to buy a used car from a private owner in the USA! Because for $1,000 the cleanliness and condition of that fiesta I thought was good for the money!

The profit will be in your VAT reclaim. To be honest, I can see why you always include VAT in your figures, play to the audience, but it would make more sense ro either exclude VAT on your costs, or cover thr VAT margin and VAT reclaim when you crunch the numbers to make things more transparent.

Yet another great transformation and glad you saved this for all the youngsters out there, but guessing the costs reflect this.
You say when going through your costs that the locking wheel nut was not in the car, but it was in the glove box when you first went through it, you even mention it? was it not for this car or did it go missing in the 4 months somehow?

@highpeakautos I am a big fan of the channel and on the lookout for a vehicle. On an entirely separate issue, are you aware of the Northern Ireland market regarding used cars/vans etc, it is a smaller market, but it is in a roundabout way serving the Southern Ireland/Republic of Ireland market which is a wealthy market, to cut a long story short, the types of cars you are dealing in would make a much higher premium in Northern Ireland by just taking it over on the ferry you should look into that as you are relatively close to the Ferry, and have a far big supply of better quality vehicles to choose from in your immediate area.

Matt thanks for being so brutaly straight and up front on the prep you put into the car.
When buying a 10 yr old car which would you recomend:
1- car with full Service history and what appears to be in good roadworthy condition, mot etc. Or
2- a cheap car similar condition to the car in the video and fix it up?
With the latter you know everything has been fixed and with the correct maintenance sho last for a good number of years. Where as with option 1 you never know if there is an under lying problem just waiting to happen.

Well, Matt....no profit on this one. But if it goes to the right buyer and they treat it right, it will be on the road for many more miles, instead of being destined for the scrapper. Which it was, in the state you purchased it in. So, financially it was a wash. But cosmically, you made the car universe a better place. And the new owner for sure will be grinning ear to ear in their new (to them) purchase, thanks to you!

Congratulations on saving another one Matt!!! I took on a similar job with my sister in laws ‘farm’ car. If you think the interior was bad on this one, hers looked like someone had been knifed to death after a lengthy struggle. It was a little Peugeot, 206 three door petrol. I could see the good little car underneath. It took me four months on and off and I sold it eventually for £750 making a profit of £270. It was just too good to go to the scrap heap in the sky.
