    Love flying on them. Especially the take-off. It pushes you back into the seat better than a pure jet when those props bite.

    I absolutely love these planes. My family flies Porter Airlines from Ottawa whenever we go to visit our relatives in Newfoundland. Porter has a lovely livery for them, and the planes are always such a smooth, charming, comfortable ride. Truly one of the best propeller airliners. May they serve long!

    It's interesting that this is in Canada. I take off from DFW here in Texas all the time, and it looks strikingly similar to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

    At least that’s an operational Q400... Our flight from MTL to Moncton was cancelled because the fuel gauge was not working properly, or as it should. We had to sleep in the airport, because air canada could’nt find us hotels... all that because of a plane!

    • @alvexok5523
      @alvexok5523 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dan-xl1er probably a smaller town, because airline's express propeller planes only have flight routes to smaller towns with shorter runways that airline's jets don't fly to. They're usually shorter routes too. Here in Kansas City, I've seen that express routes will take you from there to numerous smaller towns in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa, Topeka, KS, Omaha NE, Joplin, MO, Columbia, MO. The shortest jet airline routes from Kansas City are to St. Louis, Tulsa, OK, and Witchita, KS. Not sure about Des Moines, Iowa if it's a jet or an express prop route

    The sound of the props often leads non observant people to believe that the turboprop engine is an old fashioned piston driven propeller engine. Observant people like myself can tell that it's a jet engine with a propeller attached, especially when it fires up. That's when you hear the whine of the jet engine. We need to educate the public that a turboprop is a "Prop Jet".
    On the computer or TV screen, the 60 cycle flicker creates optical illusions of the props going slow or backwards. The Dash 8's props rotate to starboard. The engine and prop shown in this video is on the port side.

    Are these called turboprops because the props are turbocharged? They sound like they’re turbocharged to me, I feel like I hear some turbo whistle

    Notice how the Q400 has six blades per propeller while the Dash 8 -100/200 and -300 only have four.🧐

    • @dranzergigs8333
      @dranzergigs8333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those planes are very small so thrust requirement is less.
      More blades equals more thrust but also more load on the engine. So you need a bigger more powerful engine which is expensive.

    Ive been flying on regional jets lately, and I noticed that they were taxiing with only one engine running, and starting the second right before they turn on the runway. I don't know if that can be done with turboprop planes though; I've always seen them start both engines prior to taxiing.

    • @WillAviation
      @WillAviation  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe turboprops can taxi with one engine! I've seen it happen after arrival in certain cases!

    I recently flew these planes with this airline and it is a terrible experience. The cramped cabin is truly the worst and then the noise and the fuel fumes suffocating your lungs during taxi. Air travel is going backwards with these things. Air Canada is saving money which obviously is their only consideration but i won't fly on one again.
