A beautiful and exquisitely presented plane filmed and presented superbly! (I almost ran out of superlatives there). Thank you for this. We just saw this very plane in the movie Sebastian III. About 20 years ago I had the good fortune to fly from Sydney to Mudgee for lunch at a winery before returning in a DC3. What a privilege - had a tear in my eye as we took off! Cheers and thanks from Aus - Dave

I think it's been proven over the past 80 years that the DC3 was the best twin engined plane ever built. And as long as the maintenance is on top of things, they'll still be flying long after we're gone. For that large an aircraft, their fuel consumption wasn't that bad either.
Not to mention they’re small enough to get into the small airports, there was one at the Thomaston-Upson county airport, there’s a C-47 there now, but they still carry a good amount of passengers/cargo, and they can fly from one side of the US to the other no issues whatsoever, although you probably would have to stop along the way once for fuel.
I was handed an old airline book (1975) and this beautiful plane was in it with full specs and framework diagram. So great to see it still flying its nice just listen to these old turbo-prop engines at work. Thank you.
Pity these are not made anymore. A relatively simple design, rugged and reliable. Easy to maintain and restore compared to modern aircraft. I think they still have their uses and just how many are still flying today is a testament to that. In context of a clever and long-lasting design that just works, two machines come into mind: UAZ 2206 (452) "bukhanka" (in production since 1965) and Lada Niva (produced since 1977).

One of the worlds most important aircraft and there are no photos or films of the first takeoff or landing. For the test pilots it was just another day at the office, just a slightly bigger version of the DC2. And another fact that amazes me,,, in 17 years time the design will be 100 years old and it will still look beautiful.
