    The reason Snap isn't one of the biggest games on mobile right now is purely because of the boneheaded way it handles aquiring cards. Why don't they understand this?

      I actually don't believe it would be that big even if acquiring cards was better. The Marvel name carries this game so hard and I'm unsure how many people actually consider that. I put up with a ton of bs from monetization to lackluster gameplay simply cause I like Marvel. I like learning about characters I never knew about, I like seeing characters I forgot about, and I love seeing my favorites. The same exact gameplay with random original characters instead of Marvel? Dead before it even hits year 2. This game has a multitude of issues.

  • @vii109
    @vii109 หลายเดือนก่อน +231

    The first card that was changed for monetization was Mobius during Loki season. He had been nerfed so more people would buy Loki, and then when they were releasing his summer bundle for like 60-80$, they buffed him and people started calling them out. Glenn said "we would never make balance changes for monetization"

    • @MrGuildenstern12
      @MrGuildenstern12 หลายเดือนก่อน +34

      The first obvious change in favor of monetization was when they changed their regular series downgrade cadence in the first year to leave Darkhawk in series 4. Shortly after, they released a bundle for a variant of him. That was when I took an 11 month hiatus from the game. Came back thinking they had “fixed” things, and oh boy was I wrong 😢

      I quit last month due to the Alliance rewards. I ran a successful alliance getting the final reward every week. The issue I had was how much I needed to play to get there. Snap was a favorite of mine due to how fast I could get my dailies done, then play more when I get time. Alliance bounties made me have to play a lot with my limited time and I couldn’t do other things. I kept hanging on because I had a high collection level and didn’t want to fall behind by taking a break. I went ahead and cut snap early November and it’s been great. The time I was using on it I am now able to spend on a lot more things.

      I gave up on alliances. My group has a casual and a competitive one. I was asked to join the comp team but after the first 3 alliances, the grind for 2 borders or a variant was a joke. If tokens became a reward it would be so much better. They also should let your re roll a token shop card rather than wait for a reset. Make it like 100 credits first time and double it each re roll, and then reset that when the shop resets naturally

      I haven't uninstalled but I stopped playing. Got into a Factorio binge and if I can't or don't want to play enough Snap to keep up, I'd rather not play at all. Between normal daily missions, conquest, alliance missions, and now Deadpool's Diner again, it's just way too much forced engagement.
      I could get back into the game if they significantly improved card acquisition and dropped a lot of the systems forcing you to play all the time. But that will never happen, these games just tend to get worse until they die. Oh well, was fun while it lasted.

      What frustrates me the most is that they nerf older cards that play well with newer ones just to force you to buy the new stuff: this in turn makes your older decks useless. I used to run a discard deck a few months ago, it revolved around dracula, morbius, apocalypse and daken, now you basically can't play a discard without corvus and proxima, it's embarrassing.

    Tbh they are not even doing "evenly" distribution of cards in those caches, for example x-23 was arleady in cache few times and there are some good s4/5 cards which wasnt been in cache for a looooong time becouse those are soild cards and they use those as token bait. SD is greedy and scumy af so far. Also they tend to realise overtuned season pass cards and then nerf it to oblivion after season ends... Letting them to nerf cards without any compensation was the worst thing snap community did.

      The only time they have ever gutted a season pass card is Elsa. All others were small nerfs to cards that were the most broken card in the game (AV, Surtur) and are now top meta contenders. Sometimes they even buff bad season pass cards later (symbiote spider man). You can hate the game, no bad blood. But you don’t have to lie to intentionally make the game worse than it is.

    The fact that they actually stated that High Voltage wasn't a good mode despite the ENTIRE community loved it's praises, shows they don't care. The fact that they active made fun of valid criticism within doodle their preferred mode, DPD, shows they don't care. The fact that they knew 2 years ago that the iceberg of the pools oversaturation and terrible card acquisition and STILL have done nothing meaningful about it, proves that they don't care.

    I played Snap from its launch until the time they introduced Thanos/Kang/ tokens system- something like this. I enjoyed it, i supported it (season pass, here and there skin and some bundle). With the introduction of S4/S5, the tokens system and how you acquire those, i decided it's my time to go from the game- adding new cards with low chance of getting them from reserves and almost none chance to get those big hitters ala Thanos/Kang (though i was supporter of the idea to have ATLEAST really big bad guys like Galactus/Kang in different series) and the writing was on the wall, kinda- add constant new cards in S4/S5, stop dropping cards or drop cards once every few months, then balance problems will shows up.. I just stopped playing it and buying Season passes and such. I think card drops should be atleast once every 2 months- thats like 10 cards that could be nerfed/buffed depend where are they and how much they are played- either by increasing or reducing their energy/points and to see how it'll be played in the new tier.

    I literally saw this coming when it first launched. I used to play with my group of friends and I noticed how they were advancing faster than I was when we all started at the same time. Only thing we did different was buying the season pass. I never bought it since I was suspicious about it. It was strange to me how season pass buyers got an “exclusive” card. I was right because a majority of the time this “exclusive” card was the META! I know these cards eventually became available for everyone but by that time a new season had already started and the META would change all over again! As soon as I saw this pattern repeated I stopped playing and lost all interest. I’m surprised it took this long for everyone else to start noticing the cash grab behind this company!

The fact they've already announced another series drop for early next year makes me worried that we won't hear or see anything about a change to card acquisition until some time after that.

The spotlight system works best for newer players who don't have or barely have series 4 or 5 cards. Like I'm 5 cards from collection complete so most weeks I'm only going for the new card but with only 2 to maybe 3 keys so there's always a chance I can whiff and not get anything new. • @migueldelrosario6084
    @migueldelrosario6084 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I think I discovered a Fundamental Truth about Marvel Snap- the game is only “fun” when the player doesn’t and/or doesn’t have to engage with it for a prolonged period. The moment a Mission or Event forces the player to play for a prolonged period, the player discovers how the gambling mechanic of Snap, and it’s RNG, is super annoying.
    In SNAP, the goal is not really to play the game “for the love of it;” rather the goal if towards progression, either through the Ladder or completing the Mission or Event. So it is not really about “staying in” and just playing. In this way, the more the RNG or the game mechanics add some factor that frustrates a player’s progression, the player becomes angry and burnt out on the game.
    Ultimately, SNAP needs to be less a competitive “gambling” type of game- and just be more of a typical card game which lets players have the decks they want and the competition comes in pitting decks against each other rather than “gaming for the meta.”

    • @tinminator8905
      @tinminator8905 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Which “typical” card game lets their players have the decks they want? I was free to play in HS for years and at most I was able to craft ONE deck from the new expansion on its release. Even when I started spending hundreds I was missing large chunks of each expansion. LoR is the only game that handed free to play players all relevant cards and they WENT UNDER for it. You can criticise Marvel Snap for using a different system, but let’s not pretend they give you less cards than other card games. All successful card games do not let their players get the decks they want, so that they spend more money.

    Been saying for a while that if they added a hefty chunk of collectors tokens to the weekly max chest it would help acquisition a lot. Maybe 1000 tokens for the final weekly chest. Or 1000 over the course of hitting the weekly max chest. 1000 sounds like a lot but it’s basically a guaranteed series 5 every month and a half when they are releasing 4 per month. Or it would help finish series 4 with 1 card per month which would feel a hell of a lot better than this.

    The evolved bots have all collection cards, running the most popular decks in the current meta (like the Gorr-Negative, Thanos-Surtur, MoonKnight-Darkhawk decks), not just using the basic Avatar and English name, and even have Guilds.
    So if you don’t pay attention, it’s really hard to recognize if your opponent is a bot or not, especially when you’re under the pressure of losing all bubs in DD.
    The evolved bots still follow the same logic of stupid bots - they will read your play, try to get prio before T5, but lose prio on T6 for losing you the match. And then they will retreat if you SNAP on them.
    But since the deck they’re using are the most popular decks in the current meta, you’ll feel lots of pressure when playing against them (because you can’t recognize from the ID, Avatar, or Guild), so most of time you might end up retreat before them.
    It’s a really evil design!

    I'm a new player and recently got to the leaderboard I would like to applaud Marvel Snap for being the first digital card game to properly recreate going from playing in a friends group/locals to going to a big event and getting destroyed by cards and decks you've never seen before. Went from long play sessions to only logging in to finish dailies to slowly build up my cards and finish the battle pass.

    I was first frustrated with snap because when I started, I played on PC and there was a bug or something where events didn't show up on PC. I realized this when I tried playing on mobile and there were suddenly events available.
    That was frustrating but I decided to keep playing and eventually I collected a sizable collection. I was doing reasonably well on the ladder for a while until silver surfer came out and I felt there were serious problems with the game's monetization. The silver surfer combo deck was just incredibly unfun to play against and it wasn't possibly to counterplay with the cards available to me at the time. The worst part was that it wasn't possible to get silver surfer at the time without spending money which means people could actually pay for a competitive advantage. That set me on my path to quitting the game.

    I'm so encouraged to hear people finally voicing this, give hope that it might be improved. Or the game completely dies and that's problem solved in it's own way. For me it comes down to this, far too much of the player base miss out on far too many meta decks, you can slice it up however you like but it comes down to that. All the symptoms of the collection systems lead to that, all players don't need all the cards, but all players should have better agency over which cards they pick and should end up being able to play a good chunk of the decks of the day, I get about half the season passes and it's most common for me to not have the collection to make any of the dozens of decks I see recommended each week, on the rare occasion on I have a couple to actually CHOOSE from, omg, being part of the game is so much more fun.

    Snap feels like its in the stage where its milking its remaining fan base. I feel like ive seen this in rainbow 6 siege and apex legends. Basically no new players and a slowly declining player base, they try and milk their base which accelerates the leave for other and then just gets more expensive for the remainers.

    I have been playing snap for quite a while so I am getting the cards I want, mostly. I don’t unlock every card every week in the spotlights, so I do have a decent amount if keys to save while waiting for new cards I want. Usually I open at least half of the spotlights a month. I do the season pass each month, and occasionally buy a cheap bundle, like $5-$15 at most.

    Came back after around 4 months (during Fenris week) realise I've missed Malekith, and want to buy it for decks. I have been waiting over a week now, and still no Malekith in my shop.
    I would really like to see more than one card offered, at each reset each day. So we would be getting offered 9 cards a day, instead of 3.
    They also need to do something about album variants, flooding the variant shop. I have been waiting for the Shavrin - Monkey variant for over 14 months now. The same stuff shows up, over and over again, and you're lucky if you see 1 or 2 none album variants, every 24 hours. And similar to pool 5, the album bloat, which means more variants taking priority in the shop. Unless you buy the variant the day it comes out, it might take years for it to show up for you.

    The crazy part is most players dropped the game before they got to series three so they're never gonna deal with these issues. Most likely why their monetization is so aggressive.
    You unlock stuff so slowly that even if you see a cool streamer doing something neat and want to try the game you go into a month long tutorial before you can even start playing. Never has an unlocking system in a card game made me wish for packs till this one

    I started playing at the end of October. I’m at Collection Level 1100ish. I throw money at this game here and there to get access to some competitive cards so that I can enjoy game time. I have a Wodin Deck with an alternative curve to Ultron and I like it. I look at deck builds online and recognize I don’t have access to really good cards.
    The “throwing some money” thing is becoming less the more I understand the monetization. Groceries and health insurance keep going up, leaving me less monetary freedom for digital trading cards.
    I’m here because I miss playing TCGs. But my TCG experience showed me that they always, eventually, become too expensive to keep up.
    Unless something changes, my time here might be short.

    I’m a new Marvel Snap player I just started around this year around March, and I gotta say leveling up and getting new cards feels like a chore now.. I’m currently in series 3 CL 1258 and love playing Move Decks, and I’ve been in series 3 for about 3-4 months now. At first it was a pretty smooth grind to climb up, and I saw that series 3 had a pretty big pool and I was ok with it cause I was enjoying the game. Then they introduced the collectors reserves and that completely ruined everything. Every single time my collection level increases and I have to pray that I get an actual card and not credits, or a variant, or even boosters! It’s made the climb so much more tedious and frustrating. And what’s worse is I climbed up to Vibranium and I just get completely stomped by meta decks because my deck is still a fairly basic move deck. If they could just implement giving series 3-4 cards a bit faster in the lower ranks it would make the climb a lot less tedious.

    Yeah forcing you to do unfun quests with bad decks really is burning me out aswel. I've been playing this game since release, so card acquisition isn't a big problem, i usually have enough keys to get the cards I like. But it is abit annoying that with every month they have to release some OP cards so people buy the season pass. I also didn't mind the deadpool diner very much, but I don't have infinite time. So because i wanted to alternate art card, I didn't have the time to climb the ladder to rank 100 or play conquest enough for the face card that season. Which is a bummer. I'd love if they delay the next season if they plant one of these big time consuming events.

The odd balancing and rate of card acquisition has been pushing me away for a while but Pokémon Pocket coming out and being much more generous and generally feeling like less of a chore to play has been the death nail for me. I’ve spent about $30 on Pocket and am only missing two base cards. Compare that to Snap where $30 might get you 1 new card if you buy a bundle with good value, it’s a no brainer that it might be time for me to step back.

    But it's very obvious that there's one huge problem: The monotony and redundancy that's the collection level track.

    Things with tokens cost so much and nothing nothing gets cheaper right?.

    I'm glad more content creators are being vocal. I think enough is enough when it comes to the way they treat the player base. People are just fucking fed up with the drip feeding and false promises. The tree idea you brought up is actually great but the caches would need to contain cards again. If they want to fix the game, series drops need to happen every week like they stated, dupe protection has to be in place on spotlight caches, and chest on the track need to go back to containing 600 tokens.
    Make your money selling cosmetics and not cards.

    I personally quit about 2 years ago, had been playing since launch and pouring money into their predatory monetization model. One day I decided I had had enough and stopped playing the game in outright rage. I absolutely LOVED the gameplay but why did they have to make their card acquiring model so disgustingly bad? I've pondered going back to the game multiple times, but each time I'd go and check out some decks only to realize I didn't have a competitive collection anymore, got frustrated at the thought of needing to endlessly grind just to make it back to a barely competitive level and shoved that idea way back where it came from. It's a sad story really, but yeah, that's how I feel.

But they then also took away the ability to get series 4/5 cards from collection levels. And that wasn’t even the worst thing they did.

    If SD would just stop pricing everything toward a small number of mega-whales and shift toward a system in which more people could participate without dipping into their life savings, it seems like they'd make the same amount of (or more) money and generate a lot less anger.
    I think a big part of the problem might be that the people in charge of monetization (California executives) truly have no idea of the value of money for normal people in other parts of the country or the world. It simply doesn't occur to them what they are asking middle-class people to give up in order to buy a $100 bundle of pixels.

    So, I decided to stop playing Snap about two months ago. I have been playing since the first public season, in October of 2022. I became a whale, and purchased every bundle I could, but found out that it still didn't make me a better player. I never hit infinite in my run, getting as close as 93. It was a bit disheartening, as I played when I could, being an near 40 guy with a job and family. For all the hard work I put in, as well the money, I still feel at a loss never hitting infinite. Yeah, I've got a cool Spider-Man card back that I never saw anymore, but what I really wanted was that cool infinite one (or the title they offered during the 3rd season, before an infinite card back was available, "Herald of Galactus."). I realize now that dumping all my extra money into this slot machine didn't amount to anything, unfortunately.

    I come from mostly playing Magic the Gathering and the online version of it (Arena, though have tried MTGO), I've played Yu-Gi-Oh (and Master Duel) a decent amount too. Call me a cynic but I've always taken "you dont have to spend money" to mean "you have to play this a lot regularly" which isn't *necessarily* bad but not my vibe. So hearing that my gut reaction to avoid Snap was RIGHT is... Very sad and disappointing. I actually thought from what I'd heard it was a fairly unique system and probably nice on mobile.
    I hope the Snap players get a better experience.
