women cannot beat defensive male players like Ma Te. They play fast but lack the power that you need against defensive players.
yes, male defensive players can pop the ball up and still return many of the slams of the top women. In addition, Ma Te (and Joo Se Hyuk in the recent past) has an offense and the women have trouble handling it.
Exactly. You need the strength not the speed when play against defensive player. And woman don't have it.

Men and women are different. Chen Meng is No. 1 ITTF ranked for women, Ma Te is 170 ITTF ranked for men, yet he beat Chen Meng easily.
Well not so sure, at least in TT. She did beat Fan Zhendong!

He is better than his world ranking suggests, but he also isn’t trying. Some of the attacks he made were incredibly slow compared to when he is playing a real match, and Ma Te doesn’t go off the table and start lobbing or making exaggerated motions when he chops. It was obviously for exhibition. But it does also give the Chinese women a chance to play against superior players and a very different style than playing other women, which will make the Chinese women much stronger in general

Poor show from Chen against this dude ranked, 171. To be fair though, she struggled with his defensive style and prefers pace on the ball.
And to be fair, Ma Te is probably top 50 player in the world, but doesn’t get to play much on the international stage, and that will affect world ranking. He’s a top tier chopper.
@@seanreddy658 Maybe higher than top 50. Top 30 seems reasonable. I've watched the best defensive players for 13 or 14 years and Ma Te is as good as any of them with the exception of Joo Se Hyuk. Other very good ones include Ruwen Filus, Gionis Panagiotis and Hou Yingchao. I think that the Chinese table tennis association knows how valuable Ma Te is for sparring against their best players. Ma Te was a bit better than Hou Yingchao even when Hou won the Chinese table tennis championship in 2019.
Stylistically, this is the absolute worst match up possible between men and women. Chen Meng would have a MUCH better chance of beating offensive men that are much higher ranked than Ma Te. Chen Meng's advantages of being quick off the table are basically useless against Ma Te. Additionally, her instincts of when it's safe to push or slow loop aren't calibrated to play against men because women don't hit as hard--it would've helped a lot if she went for some backhand loops instead of pushing during certain points. But my point is that there is more nuance going on here than just men being way stronger than women
PS - Ma Te is also way stronger than his 171 world ranking suggests. It's kind of undisputed that he's the best chopper in the world, but he rarely gets to compete internationally because he's from China, so he doesn't exactly get a chance to improve his ranking

Ma Te has some seriously heavy backspin based on some of the failed returns.
its kinda unfair i think, for women players its hard to handle defensive male player despite her level. She needs alot of energy to break through that defense.
Ma Te seemed relaxed and made some unusual side spin shots…no chance for his opponent. He is clearly on much higher level.

CHEN Meng is very tired, it's like throwing pitches in a baseball game repeatedly. Ma Te varies his spin so much , then he attacks so much as well, he has beaten alot of the best men's players and has won tourneyments. I beleive Chen Meng needs more matches with Ma Te to learn his unique style, Chen Meng usually figures out how to beat an opponent, in the long run, she would learn how to win against Ma Te, I know she can beat alot of the beat ranked men in the world
Its all about strength. Women don't have it. They have speed but not strength. When play with defence players like Ma Te you need more power forehand for counter his spin. So even she has more practice with him or player like him, it will not change anything, and like i remember she never win man players in real match.

Ma Te doesn't seem to have a ranking, does anyone know if he used to have one? I prefer watching men vs women to same gender matches now. Men just wack the ball as hard as they can and women remain glued to the table and their rallies have no tempo changes. I kinda find both equally boring and think the ITTF should have a mixed-gender world ranking. I haven't watched too many games any more the last 4-5 years but these are great fun and are always a contrast of styles!
Matt is the only defender in the national table tennis team and his main job is to partner in practice
Ranking is not indicative of his level of play, for some reason the Chinese do not send him out for international competitions. Therefore, no points accumulated. Maybe he's more of a practice partner for upcoming defensive players against the Chinese.

im wondering if a woman from other ethnicity with generally bigger people has potential to be a serious threat for top male players if they grew up with chinese top training etc. this isnt trying to be mean but i feel like players from other countries would physically be able to outperform chinese (atleast in women category) but i guess they simply dont have the same training methods someone over there can get.
Has nothing to do how big a person is, there are 16 years old world class players that have small bodies, of course man's have an advantage because they are stronger and more athletic, and a top woman would never beat a top men that the reality.
German female players are bigger and that hasn’t helped much
Don't forget bigger in size also means slower in movement. Have you wondered why chinese male players are not physically stronger than male players from Europe but their strokes seems to be more powerful? E.g., Ma Long with the most powerful forehand in the world? It's all about techniques, my friends. I think there are some videos in this channel explaining this fact.
Just imagine if a non Chinese female player who plays exactly like Ma Te and just as skillful as Ma Te suddenly beating all the top Chinese Women player, everyone would go crazy right now.
@@david0ade I'm almost certain that there's no female players in the world having such a powerful and consistent inside-out forhand attack like Ma Te does. He did score many points with that stroke in this match though.
