    Simplely umcompetable.
    Most female players' points are depended on rallies and consistency, which they can't do it the same against male players' power.

    Because of the smaller playing area, the male physical advantages aren't as pronounced as it is with other sports. It IS still an advantage but the gap isn't so huge in that females can be somewhat competitive. Take tennis for example. Serena Williams in her prime would have difficulty competing with top male colleges let alone pro male players. In table tennis, females wouldn't have to go that far down the list to be competitive, in my opinion.

    2:58 I like how Lin Gaoyuan struggles with the queen and Ma Long just smashes her shots. No offence but Lin Gaoyuan is like the weak link in the Chinese A team. He’s not technically weak in any areas but just a lack of mental toughness and lack in confidence in his shots. Evident to n the match against Timo Bill from 10-4 down. A player like Ma Long in that situation would’ve just ended the game 11-4 not giving Timo any chance to comeback whatsoever but Lin Gaoyuan has to make the mistake of tensing up at 10 points. This is why he isn’t chosen in the Chinese team as an international representative despite his skill in the national matches

    I would like to see the whole matches to analyze the it more. I think it's a difference of technique/style and experience more than physical strength. Women's style is speed and men's is power for sure, but there are always incidents were a player meets another with a different style, (Harimoto at his beginning, speed vs power), and at that point both need to adjust to the other style's and overcome the strengths of the opponent.

    • @peterreid9769
      @peterreid9769 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Longer matches would solve the debate. The difference between men and women in table tennis is much narrower than in other sports. It's maybe a few percent at the most in TT.
      There is probably no need for single gender competition.

      Start slower with the spin and build you technique, eventually you and your shots will get faster and spinnier. Don t rush into carbon blade, while you learn use wood blade. If your technique is on point you will be able to hit faster and spinnier. Also do leg workouts 2 times a week you will feel your legs will also get faster and stronger.

    This is a bit nonsensical. Let's take it from the begining. So the argument is that the main difference between men and women is physical power. But almost every cut you presented had nothing to do with physical power - most lost points were unforced errors (ding Ning), tricky serves or good placement and spin. There was no attack were ma long or fan zhendong - or, for that matter, any player in the men's team went full out force. Of course ma long won against everyone - he'd probably win against every other man teammate because he's got the most solid technique + experience.
    Playing against women's team is like playing against harimoto - they take the ball really early and make you run left and right if you go away from the table. The women's team made sure that they don't let their opponents go away from the table unpunished. So most points were decided close to the table or in short game.
    And I remember you saying that in table tennis you don't need a lot of physical strength to produce high quality shots - a perfect example is harimoto who beat the heck out of China national players at 14!
    If you don't have the strength, you can pick a faster blade (Lin Jun yu). I doubt he's stringer than Cheng Meng. And FZD lost to her surely not because of her psychical strength.
    So something does not follow here.
    Just to make myself clear: I do agree that there is an obvious difference is body strength, but I don't think this is the main and only reason why women's team would lose. In table tennis the physical strength is more negligible than in, let's say, tenis! Where Selena Williams would lose to number 500th in the world. And she would be around 600th (she addresses the issue in an interview - if anyone interested, I can post a link). The battle of the sexes seems much closer here than in other sports because technique does compentase a lot for the lack of power.
    Curious to see what others have to say about this.

    • @XCSme
      @XCSme 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree. If strength was the deciding factor then Harimoto would have no chances, yet he managed to beat top players even before puberty.

    • @nivel9885
      @nivel9885 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you but I can't find where he says that's the reason they'd loose. I only find where he says they prefer different Playstyles due to physical differences. But in the end there are exceptions to those preferred styles such as harimoto with men or chen Meng (who plays more physical than others I think) with women.

    • @tomthomas9708
      @tomthomas9708 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The difference is maybe a few percent but that's all. Juan Liu came out of a 6 year retirement well into her 30s and ran through all of the top males in the U.S. winning a number of mixed gender tournaments. Out of practice at an advanced age! Think about that. She outplayed and beat Daniel Gorak an Olympian and top 50 ranked player (at the time).
      She's just one example. There are others. Yes, there is a difference between top male and female players but it's marginal.

    A victory by women will convince that Table Tennis is more than a game just of strength but also speed, flexibility, strategy, psychology, technique/skill and more. If that happens, then TT will be a very unique sport because it will be the only sport where men and women can compete as equals. But Table Tennis involves strength too. I do remember about 15 years ago, the top woman billiard champion was beaten up by billiard legend Efren Bata Reyes. And Billiard is not a game of strength and power, but skill and strategy. Also, I do remember at some time, Liu Guoliang beat the entire women's team with the SHAKEHAND GRIP!

      No kidding. 4:32 all of the Men A team should be expected to win ALL the females players, no question. It shouldn’t just be Ma Long

    Men really have a lot more power than women but women are a lot more faster and have better reflexes. The both sides have their advantages and disadvantages when playing against each other,
    this is why we can't say for sure who is better.

      Women don't have faster better reflexes. But they're playing closer to the table. TT is such a game where difference in strength can be compensated with technique and softer hands

    Good question... I definitely think that question is also one of the many things which makes table tennis the best sport. That's bad there were handicap points. But even without handicap points, I'm pretty sure the top 10 women have more or less the same level than top 10 men. Chen MENG could be male number 3, WMY male number 5 and Calderano female number 8 ! The only exceptions would be XX who has a very special play, and Ma Long, the greatest of all times, more dominant than any other men or women on earth. But it there were a female Ma Long, I am sure she would beat any man !

    Woman can't compete with man on a high level in table tennis at all....
    Most of the points that the females will score will probbaly be unforced errors by the males or lucky shots..
    The score will look something like: 11 - 4, 11-5 at best.. these results are still considerate as domination...
    Females will hit/serve with less spin, speed (due to be physically weaker and not being as explossive as males due to genetics most of the times), and lack of consistency at high spin/speed ralies (due to, well you can't be consistent in shots that you never practised before, i bet they haven't had ralies at the speed and power that the males can produce, and being consistant at the same time..), and definitely the females have less power..
    To sum it up, no way a woman will get in any way closer of beating a male Pro...
