  • New border checks on food and plant imports will add billions of pounds to the cost of doing business with the European Union, industry figures have warned.
    Smaller independent food importers fear they will be disproportionately affected by the regime as they lack the scale to mitigate costs or set up European subsidiaries to handle the process.

      yeah food "safety" checks but OUR human rights to safety don't seem to matter.. but ex fighters in Syria get to claim asylum based on THEIR rights.. i wish someone would take the government to court to argue that our human rights to a safe life are being endangered by their letting KNOWN Islamic fighters from Syria etc into the country to protect THEIR rights (then a bunch of them have done terrible things to UK citizens)

      The UK will be the biggest economy in Europe by 2038, as long as Labour, if they get in power, don't do much damage, we are already the second biggest economy and the highest rated military in Europe, all trade implications with the EU have a solution, most of the time it's because of efficiency and increasing productivity in the UK which is a requirement anyways, our trade with the rest of the World exceeds our trade with Europe!?!

    Fundamental basics of business is to not to cut yourself off from your largest trading partner and biggest trading block in the world.       Except we have a free trade agreement with the EU! We are now outside their oppressive dictatorship, the same as every other country in the world. We are now free to trade with every other country in the world under UK terms NOT EU terms. Our trade arrangements are no different to every other country in the world and the benefits of Brexit are unlimited.

    My own business has been damaged by the effects of Brexit: new UK RED TAPE...power of attorney docs, customs declaration forms, spending hours looking up commodity codes, then paying actual charges...import charges, customs clearance charges and deferment taxes...can add 30% to my imported goods' costs...and then DELAYS...product that used to take 2 -3 days to come, can now take several weeks, or longer! Brexit has been a disaster! And this was BEFORE today...incidentally, this isn't "punishment" by Brussels for leaving. It is simply the new reality of the Trade & Cooperation deal Johnson and Frost signed us up to and I'm certain they didn't even read the damn thing before they signed it off!😡

      Yes - this is likely to happen - A lack of trade will be a big boon to British farmers - not like they used to rely on free and easy trade with the EU , or subsidies or anything else like that. Ask the farmers - I am sure they will be delighted.

    Ireland is a huge food producing country. These days, more and more, Irish food exporters are skipping the UK market completely, too much hassle! ...doing more business within the much bigger EU market (and globally of course.) ...no cost, no delay, no bureaucracy.       My own business has been damaged by the effects of Brexit: new UK RED TAPE...power of attorney docs, customs declaration forms, spending hours looking up commodity codes, then paying actual charges...import charges, customs clearance charges and deferment taxes...can add 30% to my imported goods' costs...and then DELAYS...product that used to take 2 -3 days to come, can now take several weeks, or longer! Brexit has been a disaster!

    Seems to me that this bill should be picked up by those who championed Brexit like Farage and Johnson. Fortunately they're pretty rich so it shouldn't be too big a burden for them, after all this is what they wanted and what they forced upon us, so it is only fair that they take responsibility.
