  • Today, the guys talk machine polishing & paint correction. From Rotary to DA, we break down the process to know which style may work best for you! Many people are scared that a Rotary polisher will burn paint. We discuss this myth in-depth and give some insight on how the Dual Action polisher like the Porter Cable 7424XP and Rupes have changed the market.
    Polishing a car shouldn't be something that people fear anymore with the progress in detailing technology. However, we highly recommend learning how to use the polishing tools before you just jump into it! Later in the video, we show you how polishing pads make a difference in the heat output on the car paint (through a thermo camera). The choice of polishing pads can make just as much a difference as the type of polisher you are using, as well as the compound or polish product. Gaining product knowledge on these detail tools can be extremely helpful in the detail process! Please watch our Junkman budget detailing series for a good starting point!

    Thanks for the videos guys. I just completed my first paint correction on my wife's car. I spent the weekend. ...about 14 hours between claying, compounding and polish. I couldn't be more pleased. I'd like to send a special thank you to the junkman. His instructionals made it possible. I found it very satisfying to see the results.

    I first machine polished with a Porter Cable which I imported to the UK in 2006. After learning about pads and polishes etc with that, I moved on to a rotary a couple of years later. It was about 14 months ago I bought a Rupes LGH15 mk2 followed by the 75e. I still have my rotary which I use with 2” spot pads for those areas. I’m so glad I can use a rotary even though I don’t very often these days.

    Greetings from the UK. I was just about to get myself an upgraded DA, as like many have heard/read the horror stories that can arise from the untrained use of a rotary. Now I'm back to the window shopping and have added rotary polishers in to the mix. I don't know whether to thank you for the video or curse you for added time I'm now gonna spend researching what to buy 🖒

      I've been in the exotic car detailing business for 12 years now and I got rid of the rotary 8 years ago, I don't need to use a rotary to save time. Rotary is great for body shops, not for the high end detail shops... my opinion only.

    Hey Levi my grandfather always said remain teachable. Any way great vid I am like you and was taught by old school body shop guy. I ended up being very good at finishing so much so no one else was allowed to do it. People should definitely learn the rotary first like you guys suggested. I wet sanded a Jeep and used a rotary for the cut and the Da for the polishing it jeweled out fantastic. Keep up the awesome vids you two are doing a wonderful job. Thanks John... When are we going to get to see Optimum's microfiber pads in action? That and I'd like to see the microfiber pads under the heat detecting filter. I think since there's not a large flat surface rubbing on the paint and air can move between the fibers the pad should stay cool. I've used the Meguiar's MF pads several times and never notice anywhere near the heat I get from foam pads.

    Just ordered pretty much every Optimum product including Opti-Coat Gloss Coat. Can't wait for them to arrive.
    Can I use Bead Buster over the Opti-Coat? Also I have some PPF on our vehicles. Do I use put Opti-Coat over it

    How long should a correcting pad last? I used one 6" pad for a whole cx-9. I cleaned it periodically during use but the center of the pad is very sunken in and now concave. Did I do something improperly? I followed junkman's techniques but wasn't sure about pad longevity. It was a griots garage orange correcting pad. Thanks, John

    The vid at the end is very helpful. Some waffle foam pads now have holes in the center, do you think that alleviates the paint from less heat?

    • @TheMuslimMayhem
      @TheMuslimMayhem 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of all types of foam pads now have holes in the center. The center is where most of the heat is generated, so yes it does help keep the pad and the paint cool. That and the center, due to the heat, will often collapse so that the pad is permanently sunk in. So if the foam is going to fail in the center anyways, might as well get rid of it to begin with.

    "Lot of company's have says their compounds are water based.... They all contains oils." What about your products? You have shown us how you use Optiseal/Carwax straight after polishing. It should reduce durability if you don't panel wipe oils off before those products, right?

    Last time I made 1-step polishing to Ford mondeo wagon it Took me 5 hours to complete it with my das6pro and Fixer polish. How much faster it Could be done with rotary?

    • @johnemmel8220
      @johnemmel8220 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Saul Muñoz that's almost a trick question there are too many variables involved. some one step compounds work very well with rotary and not with DA or well with the DA and not with rotary. Pad selection as well as your level of skill and finesse all play a large part in all types and levels of polishing/correction. However once you have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge you could potentially cut your time in half

    Love the videos. Thanks for the hard work in putting these together. However, the constant video merging is _super_ annoying. Perhaps its just me but trying to watch a video with a video merge ever 3 or 4 seconds is really annoying. Just putting this out there.

    Love the guys leaving buffer trails with DA’s because they’re working in the sun and running the buffer too high. I literally laugh out loud when I see that kinda of stuff.
