My Mother knew him well. We lived in West Memphis and were there at the gates many days after school. He let my Mother run the gates and trusted her to do so. How awesome to have those memories. The earlier years 1970, my Mother was running the gates again while I played on the lawn when Elvis came through the gates. Thanks again Billy @Spa Guy!!! Keep bringing those awesome stories because we LOVE them. Tighten up and God Bless You Billy and Elvis too.

I was lucky enough to have met Uncle Vester right at the gates of Graceland about 79/80. He was working at the time. He was so very gracious and very kind to our family. Took a few photos w us. Only great things to say about him.

Uncle Vester is worth remembering for all EP FANS especially to those lucky ones who met and chat with him at the gates of GRACELAND in pursuit of seeing and meeting THE KING in person. I'm sure Vesters family has a picture or two of Vester and Elvis...
SpaGuy, get in touch with Jimmy Gamble, he is Vester Presley's grandson and last I checked, he was still working at Graceland. Jimmy Gambles mother is Patsy Gamble, and yes, she is Vester Presley's daughter aka Elvis' double first cousin.
I used to talk with Vested almost everyday back in the mid eighties. Became good friends with him to the point he would have me help him carry his books to the plaza there in his pickup truck.
I was there at Vesters funeral. I was even fortunate enough to get to ride in that old yellow truck back then...
They shouldn't have repainted/restored that truck! Elvis carved his initials on the drivers door...
Should NOT have repainted the faded pink Cadillac either...
I believe if Elvis saw what they had done to some of his things he would be beyond outraged!
Elvis got alot of his personality from Vester....
Vester had a great sense of humor and he is still greatly missed.......
    Another great topic my friend!
    Best regards!

@Flora Braswell Yes he was...Vester was very down to earth...
Had a great personality and sense of humor to go along with it as well!
I was the same way as you when I was growing up, I spent more time with the older folks than I did with people my own age...
To me they were living history books!
I always enjoyed listening to how things were way back then and hearing how they experienced those times of old...I miss those old folks and I miss talking to them and hearing their stories...
What a good, decent generation back then...
Thanks for the reply Flora, you sound like a nice person as well!
Good to hear someone being nice here on the web!

My mom and I had lunch with Vestor for an hour back in 1988. Told us lots of stories , signed our books etc. The one thing that still stands out was when asked what’s one thing about Elvis that people don’t know about Vestor said his feet. Elvis had the biggest feet by far compared to the rest of the family. Now when I watch videos my eyes are drawn to them. Sounds weird but true story. 👍

Best info I have read says Elvis wore same size footwear as me - size 11D (medium width). The only different info I have seen is in article saying Elvis was given a pair of white size 10 shoes for his final viewing in August 1977. The other different size was said by Elvis himself at a 1975 concert. At that 1975 show, Elvis told audience he wore size 12 shoes. Size 12 was size on Elvis trading cards I bought in 1978. In my opinion they may have been size 12 because in Larry Geller's book, he said Elvis had suffered from water retention around his feet Late Road manager/friend Joe Esposito said same thing. Hopefully, Spa Guy can find correct info as all Elvis info is vital.

I Went to Graceland in August of 1988 and uncle Vestor was sitting across the street in a gift store signing autograph's on his book, I don't know where I got the nerve to even talk to him about Elvis and ask him different questions, which I don't even remember now what I asked, I do remember saying to him you must have so many happy memories of being with Elvis at Graceland He was so nice to me and was a true gentleman I also remember the feeling of being with him felt so surreal I loved it in the earlier year's when it wasn't as commercialized as it is now, I stayed in the Days Inn for the week I also met a waitress who worked right on Elvis Presley Blvd.and went to Humes High School with Elvis and she loved him also and said Elvis was such a friendly person to everyone I took video's of everything and when I was moving several year's later, I lost many of my movies including Graceland as well my family movies,. it breaks my heart when I think of those missing movies My brother was there with me and goes down every other year We come from New York I hope to get down there once again I also would like to meet you and your wife Billy I am a friend on facebook also! :)

On my first visit to Memphis in October 1987, I bought two autographed books from Vester 'A Presley Speaks and Family Cookbook'. I bought the hard cover book 'Elvis A-Z in 1988 also. Prior to your Internet reports, this book was priceless - I still have it. saw his gold Cadillac parked in front of the gift shop. Vester told me he preferred Tupelo better than Memphis. He also was not fond of Colonel Parker. I really liked him. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story and his resting place. I hope to visit Forest Hill Cemetery if I am in Memphis TN.

Love your videos Spa Guy! I was born and raised in Memphis, TN. Didn’t really get into Elvis till I visited Graceland last year. And what an awesome experience it was. Ever since my visit I have been curious about the Lore of Elvis. It’s fascinating. Elvis was like a god back in his time. It must have been something to see him while he was living. I was born in 81 so i didn’t get the opportunity. That’s unfortunate. Elvis will always and forever be the biggest thing to come to Memphis.

Was very polite . Great guy ! I have a cookbook signed by him I found at used book store. Great memories. Graceland has become very expensive to visit. Think I'm done. Been 3 times. Also, the area is crime infested and very uncomfortable. The " Hood". Sad situation. RIP Uncle Vester.

Years ago I read something about Elvis's uncle giving him a Holy Bible in the 1950s. Elvis was getting famous & he just wanted him to stay grounded.
Assuming it was uncle Vester that gave Elvis the Bible. Hope I have this story right as it's yrs ago I read something like that & hope my memory is correct.
Nice to see all the places you show in this vid. Grave stone...houses...apts...Vernon's house on & on..
    Like getting a tour.
Just shows how very special Elvis is & was. How is it a singer & actor who died in 1977 still has his millions of fans to this very day. Not only fans of his songs but still want to know "anything about him or connected with him"
With others who die they are remembered but each yr interest fads away......but Elvis ...stays popular each yr that goes by.
It amazes me that Elvis as famous as he was built such a low wall around Graceland. ????
With such fanatic fans but also all the crazy people...remember Manson Family killing people in Hollywood one would think the wall around Graceland would be at least 10 ft high. For security purposes.
Imagine today they have security cameras etc.
uncle Vester I'm sure would give his life to protect Elvis.

talking to the gate guard who ended up being Uncle Vester. What a sweet man and soooo friendly. He teased me about having a Southern name but a Northern accent. He was also keeping a BIG SECRET. It was the week in May, 1967 when Elvis and Priscilla were getting married in Vegas. Of course I didn't know that until a few days later.

I'm pretty sure he only signed his name and no personalization. I LOVE the stories like this....seeing where Vernon and Vester lived....The maml where Elvis bought the dogs. Great video!!! Very interesting to see where Vester lived. I do have his book, A Presley Speaks, but for some reason, I pictured him living on the grounds like Billy Smith's family, so this video was eye-opening. I have heard or read a lot of fan stories about the gate which featured Vester and he was always a kind gentleman in every one.

So neat. I met uncle Vester in the same place, and he autographed my notepad from the Holiday Inn. The photo I took got exposed when I accidentally opened the back of my camera. So we had to go back and see if we could get another photo. We were lucky to catch him in the parking lot at the plaza, and he was gracious enough to pose again. A good man. Thanks again, Spa Guy!!

Great stuff SG. You're getting a lot of tidbits of history out there for people that are interested in Elvis history. You've got some neat tidbits of history in the autographs in your book your got from Vester also. Isn't that strange no photos of Vester with Elvis. Keep the camera rolling and the gray ghost out on the prowl for new adventures! Thanks again.

I met Vester across the street from Graceland. He was a gentleman and very kind. He autographed his book for me and a Graceland book. When we went to Graceland, the bus driver said Elvis' aunt, I believe Delta Presley Biggs, was still living upstairs with the windows open.

I went to Graceland in 84 or85 and I still have my ticket for admission,it's identical to the one you pictured but I seem to have never got a program,or just missed placed it! Plus, I can't remember if vester was still a guard then? But I do remember when the racquet ball room was used to show a movie of Elvis rehearsing what he did best! Such as Burning love ,when he wore the blue jacket yellow scarf ,and his Sun Glasses! Thanks for sharing.

My mom said, " that Boy is going somewhere, someday, you just watch & see!" God Bless you & Your family Esther from N.Y.🎵🎸

I have one of those Bus brochures. My first visit was in July 1978 and Vester was at the gate. At that time we walked up the driveway and over to meditation garden. The house was not open to the public. There was a barrier in the driveway leading up to the house. Elvis hadn't even been gone a year yet. I was 13 yrs old. Great vlog Billy 👍🏻😎

Boy... Uncle vester certainly deserves to have several historical segments all on his own. Apparently, prior to Gladys and Vernon dating and getting married, Vester and Gladys started out dating, and Vernon and Clettes used to date also. How's that for a tidbit?

My Grandpa's brother dated my Grandma before they were married. Same thing happened in our family....Grandma's sister ended up marrying Grandpa's brother. I guess these things weren't too uncommon during their era.
