I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

Thanks buddy. I forgot to set it down to the bottom initially. It wouldn't lock down there when I tried and thought I was doing something wrong. You cleared it up, squeeze the handle and then the setting will lock in the lower position. Great chainsaw, better than Husq any day.

I bought my first Stihl Ms291 in 2000, retired my fathers old Homelite XL400
it still runs and cuts. Stihl was my choice after looking at what was out there.
Money was no issue, as my father told buy the best put the others to rest.

    BEFORE any of this -
check chain tension and free movement
check bar oil and fuel mix levels
what would actually be helpful for many people is a clear procedure for when saw refuses to start.

Mate, you made it so easy to start my chainsaw. I did not receive an instruction manual with my MS 180. All the best for the future mate.

Two minutes in before the start instructions start then skips the visual of choke setting.....the one thing I needed

I've had both types of saws. My small 041farm boss stihl. Had it for close to 20 years and only had one problem...My 266xp husky was a good saw.. Had to reajust the carb setting from time to time..Both were great saws.Unfortunately someone ripped my husky off..Just bought a used stihl 064 magnum used. Looking forward to trying that one out tomorrow..Even had a Poulan Pro 206 that I used for 17 years with only one plug change...Crappy oiling system tho..You can get a lemon with any brand of saw

I enjoyed that video, and will remember what you just said when trying to start my saw. I have a MS-250 saw which I purchased new, but always had a hard time starting it. I usually give up and go back to my Poulan chainsaw to get my work completed since it is much easier to operate.

I tried the recommended way of starting the saw on the ground, but it won't start. I noticed that the personnel at the local repair shop only used the drop starting method to get it to crank when I took it in, so I guess that I will try this method also and see if it works for me.

Yes, you can pull a string. That is nice. Follow these instructions and flood your saw.

    • @minguyen-rl7sn
      @minguyen-rl7sn 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Not like the most important thing is choke position or anything, no, ots pulling a string or that fucking retracts itself. Lets spend 10 minutes on that in a 3 minute video.

There is one item in the official instructions from Stihl that you should be careful about, do not go overboard. They warn you not to try to pull the starter too far. Fine, but don't overdo it the other way. I got very frustrated with my new saw, just couldn't start it. Took it back to the dealer several times. They could always start it when I couldn't. Finally we accidentally discovered that I was only pulling the starter rope about half way out. Now I pull it out farther and it starts like a charm. You might slowly pull it to its full extension to see just how far that is, then when starting the saw, stop just short of that point. And pull hard! You have to spin the motor fast to get it to fire.

It seems like you are an occasional user, here is a good tip for gas saws that will be sitting for long periods. Use premium grade non ethanol fuel and a high quality oil, or an engineered fuel like stihl motomix or trufuel. All pump gas, even ethanol free fuel containes benzene. And will damage carburetor diaphrams and fuel lines if left in the saw for long periods. Fuels containing ethanol are much worse. Dump out fuel when storing the saw and run it to empty the carburetor. Engenered fuels are good for 2 years once opened, they are alcohol free, and are nearly free of benzene and other damaging chemicals. For the small amount you usd the saw, the price of engenered fuels is negligible, and will not have to be drained for storage.

I have two stihl chain saw. They rank among the most worthless starting pigs ever created. I tried what this person said and still need starting fluid almost every time. Dealer cant seem to make it work proper either. Some other brand is my next saw. Even my stihl back pack blower, same stuff. once going great but starting, frustrating beyond belief. Give me a nice pumper they work better.

I brought a Stihi cost me nearly £400 GBP always very hard to start, I took it back for a service cost me another £75 GBP and I still cant start it, I would never buy one again, I have wasted hours trying to start this chain Saw!! do not buy, I have also brought one of eBay for £150 a Chinese model it starts first time every time! You can buy three of these for one Stihi and not waste your whole day trying to get it started. its a joke

I feel the same way about the Stihl saws after the trouble I have had with the MS-250 which I purchased. It spent so much time in the shop, and when I got it back it still would not start for me in most cases. The Poulan saw which is much older had already given me plenty of good service, but I wanted the best so I invested in this Stihl, which was a waste of good money in my opinion. My problem is getting this saw to start and then do some work.
