  • In this video I decided to test out 6 different slugs in the FX Maverick with a 700mm barrel. The current regulator settings are #1@145bar and #2@118bar. I am still using the stock 22 caliber hammer weight and pellet probe with these slugs. I Chose to test out the ZAN Projectiles 23g .216, FX Hybrid 22g, Patriot Javelin 23g, 26g and 30g all in .217 and some light NSA 17.5g slugs in .216. The results shocked me. This was not a paid or sponsored video and all slugs were purchased with my own money.

    Nicely done! I’m super jealous of your quiet, semi-private range, Pete!

    Maybe im wrong but. It sounds like not waiting for air to go to second cylinder. . I wonder what thec2 regs set at. Good shooting. I have Crown ,Dreamline ,Streamline and Maveric in 25ca. Keep up good work

      That setup would only refill the plenum every other shot. The regs were set to 113/133

    It's absolutely mad how my results with hybrids are opposite, they are like a shotgun at every speed, the Zan were crap too Javelins, H&N & Knockouts were all sub moa out of 700mm superior.

      That's crazy. The only thing I can think is the harmonics. Different moderator and barrel band or position will change all of that. I don't know if I could even get these back to that level of accuracy if I went back to 22cal with my Maverick.

    Well Hell! I came here looking for a Mossberg Maverick Slug gun video and found a kid playing with a toy.

    • @petespesting
      @petespesting  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lol, far from a kid and a toy. I'm 40 and these definitely isn't your daisy red ryder. It's now a 30cal and regularly coyote hunt with it. My farthest successful coyote was 228 yards. But enjoy the vids and also good luck with the Mossberg, I'm more of a Remington 870 guy, but both are great shotguns.

    Is that the superior liner or one of the slug liners? Hybrids looked awesome! Great shootin’

    • @petespesting
      @petespesting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That is with the standard superior liner and still using the pellet probe not the slug power kit.

    I’ve had good luck with the .217 NSA 23gr. @940 fps, 600mm standard superior liner. MOA or better at 100.

      Yes, I wish I would have had more NSA weights to try at this testing. Nick makes great slugs and I'm generally happy with his stuff.

    Hi Pete, thanks for the video & your current gun reg' settiings of 1 @ 145 bar & 2 @ 118 bar !! But you did not give the hammer spring setting, ie 1-7 ? can you supply?

    Great test! You should use .218 ZAN's in all fx barrels, works much better then .217 🙂
    Then you would get same consistency as hybrids.

    • @petespesting
      @petespesting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ZAN, I would love to try those out, unfortunately Airguns of Arizona only sell the .217. If I can get my hands on the .218 I will absolutely shoot them against the hybrids. I have been really happy with the ZAN in other tunes on this gun.

    I have an impact but wanted to possibly get a maverick and turn it into a slug gun. I want to keep my impact 600 mm 25 cal shooting pellets like a laser currently. I just don't find myself changing barrels, liners etc etc etc then doing it again when I want to shoot pellets with my Impact. Do you think Maverick is a good choice to do such a thing ?

    • @petespesting
      @petespesting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do. The Maverick is a fantastic gun on a better price point than buying another Impact and much better than swapping and tuning each time. I would recommend the 700mm barrel for the Maverick to help get the velocity up, that combined with a good tune makes for a great slug combo as you can see from some of the results in this video.

    • @petespesting
      @petespesting  ปีที่แล้ว

      I talk at the beginning about the different speeds for each slug I was shooting that day. They all shot at different speeds. I have since swapped over to a 30cal barrel and no longer have this 22cal tune on the gun.

      Start at 118 then slowly increase until you reach a good grouping. Don't be too concerned about velocity.

    Fps is way too slow for heavier slug

    • @petespesting
      @petespesting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear a lot of people say that, but then often times I see it proven wrong. I had a very nice long conversation with Dale from Varmint Knockers who has a guy shooting some pretty slow speeds with a 350mm Leshiy2 and getting great results. But the only way to find out is to test them myself and in my own gun.
