We must be kindred spirits! My favorite show as a child was Julia Child and to this day, Cooks Illustrated is my go to for any home cook who is looking to develop their basic skills. I can’t get into all the cooking competition shows that dominate today (except Masterchef, since I secretly wish I could do it,) but I love classic Food Network and Saturday afternoon PBS cooking shows.

I’m a professional chef and the Betty Crocker cookbook is very useful and definitely got me into cooking at a young age! It was my Grandmothers edition from the 1970s, but let’s not hate on good ol’ Betty Crocker!

I’m a huge Rachael Ray fan too and remember watching the first 30 minute meals recipe! She came to Kansas City several years ago on a book tour for her Burgers cookbook and I was SO excited to see her and listen to the Q&A. I got an autographed copy of the cookbook and she even drew my name for a prize 👍🏻.

When my mother in law passed away she had at least 1500 cookbooks we quit counting after that. It was overwhelming. I am trying to keep my collection around 20 cookbooks for my children's sake. I use to watch 30 Minute Meals every night at 6:30 and love food network shows! Thanks for sharing!

My first cookbook was the 1980 edition of the Joy of Cooking. I've used it so much that the pages are falling out and I have to hold it together with string. I love the fact that I can find everything from how to make a basic cake to how to skin a squirrel (I've never tried that one, but I love that it's included) I know that I can read about the science behind cooking certain ingredients and the minutia about them. I understand that the latest edition is very good too.

I actually love a great deal of pioneer woman recipes, but I did not have the money to buy the actual cookbooks but I have ink, printer paper, and sheet protectors so I printed all the ones I love or want to try and put them in a 2 inch binder (even though it is packed to the brim). I am also putting together a TH-cam Favorite recipe binder. It includes Kimmy from Shes In Her Apron, you of course, Sam from Happily A Housewife, Amy Mary on, Jamerrill from Large Family Table, and many more.

Love Cook's Country and Americas Test Kitchen. We used to watch those episodes a lot and I totally look to them first for my kitchen things. Love my bread knife, sheet pan and more that have been recommended by them and I love them all!!! My go to is my Betty Crocker plaid looking cookbook which I got for free when I opened by bank account at college. Totally agree! My biggest flop cookbook is the Joy of Cooking which I registered for with my wedding and I literally haven't even picked it up because they are all too complicated but I could sit and read cookbooks all day!

Such a great list! I also LOVED the food network from way far back. I remember when it was still Food TV. I also remember the premier of Rachael Ray’s 30 min meals and many other awesome “OG” shows lol. And the Pioneer Woman show premiered on my birthday and I distinctly remember watching it while eating cake and ice cream for breakfast haha! I loved her blog too!! So awesome to hear someone else that loved her before she was a food network star too. Have you read Ree Drummonds actual book on the story of her life? It’s great too! I got to meet her at a book signing a few years ago and she was so genuine and approachable.

I have been a big man of RR for YEARS - basically learned to cook by watching the original 30 minute meals on FN. I have also been watching her on Instagram during COVID and love what she and John are doing to communicate with folks/record from home - and how real they have been throughout it all. She is awesome! I gave many of the same cookbooks as you as well!

I just received the “ Cook Once Eat All Week” book for my birthday after seeing your videos...it’s everything you promised and more! My favourite cook books are by Nigel Slater, a British cook who writes beautifully. All his recipes work, and most are for normal everyday meals. I have all his books, and my favourites are The 30 Minute Cook and Real Fast Food.

Hands down the Better Homes & Gardens 1976 red plaid cookbook. I wore out one and had to replace it from a used book source. Also I stood in line for 5 hours to get a signed copy of Ree Drummond’s first cookbook when she was just starting out. She was cheerful and gracious after hours of signing autographs. I think the bookstore was unprepared for how wildly popular she was. I also have a well loved copy of a checkout aisle cookbook from Lawry’s seasonings called Weekday Gourmet. I have lots of other cookbooks but rarely use them.

I started cooking in my preteens. My first cookbook was Rachel Ray 30 Minute Meals 2. I still have it and actually flipped thru it recently and found new recipes I’d like to try. I have lots of Ina books and the first four or five Giada books (before she got snooty and did more Californian cuisine.) I rarely buy cookbooks anymore because I Pinterest more than I use my books, but maybe that will change once we finish building our house and I have the place to store all my books.

Love most of the same cookbooks and magazines. Several years ago I decided that to decrease the clutter of all the magazines, I would just take out the recipes that I liked and put them all in sheet protectors in a large 3 ring binder. Cooks county ones are my favorite because they have the recipe cards that you can rip out.

“Good & Cheap” is an amazing cookbook, it’s designed to meet the national food stamp budget but you’d never really know that. Lots of veggie recipes and some meat, and the author does a “buy one give one” where she will donate one to a family on food assistance for every one you buy. I’ve made almost everything in it and I think it’s great!
Big fan of the Moosewood books too but those tend to be a little fancier.

This is the my favorite video so far! I also love anything by ATK/Cook's. Would love to see more recipes from inside each book. My favorite granola recipe is also from ATK. I literally just opened up the slow cooker ATK cookbook for my husband (to make the 2 hour mac n cheese for dinner tomorrow night).

I too have a Rachel Ray's Cook books, I watched food network also, with Giada, Ina, Paula Deen etc, but I do have a prized cook book that I never take out, in fact it's somewhat tattered, it's a 1961 Red Roses Cook book, all the old sayings, a pinch of this and a dash here, lard and some ingredients I have no idea, but it's a keeper for me because it belonged to my Grandmother.

I love cookbooks as well and have a lot of the same ones as you. Right now though the one I have been reaching for and my current favourite is Yum & Yummer by Greta Podleski.

Great choices on cookbooks Jen! I am a collector of Ina Garten's cookbooks, I have the entire collection, some even signed. I too feel like the Food Network has declined. We only record certain programs so we can watch them during dinnertime. Thanks for sharing! I'm loving Vlogust!

Would you happen to have a suggestion for a good gluten free cookbook? My husband was just diagnosed with celiac disease and I need an easy reference for quick recipes as we stay pretty busy.

Hi. I'm gluten free (and vegetarian) I have a big collection of cookbooks. Most paleo and ketogenic books (for meat eaters) are amazing... personally I like low cost or easy/fast recipes.
One of my favorites is "4 ingredients gluten free"

Mostly I check out any GF books from the library. My library also has a huge collection of ebooks, so I get physical copies & ebooks too.

I only buy used books at library sales & used book stores, so I build my collection slowly & cheaply. I buy used, online, after I checking it out at library, so I know if I'll like it.

Love Cook's Country, and was a 'charter subscriber' to boot, but finally canceled it this spring. I realized that I hadn't read the last three issues (still had the paper mailing jacket on them!) and had to be honest with myself that I have never made a recipe from ANY of the issues. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Loved the regional features, page layouts, reviews, and 'feel' of the magazine, but I went back to Taste of Home because I actually cook what I read in that magazine. 🤣

I RECOMMEND CHRISSY TIEGEN COOKBOOKS! Whether you like her or not, they are both great cookbooks. I like to read cookbooks and hers are a great read!! When I graduated from High School, 1992, our Future Homemakers of America teacher gave us all the paperback Betty Crocker Cookbook. It's pages are like newsprint and there are no pictures; however, the binding is destroyed due to so much use. Ive been a cooking show fan from way way back!! I'd watch PBS shows like The Galloping Gourmet, Justin Wilson Cajun cooking, and an Italian woman who I cannot remember her name, but taught me homemade pasta!! I inherited the love of cookbooks from a mother who could not resist the little books by the register. Shes had boxes and boxes of them and I saw one the other day from thw 80s next to her chair! I agree that ATK can't be beat. All around their TH-cam channel gives the most thorough teaching of a recipe. My most recent cookbook is from Snoop Dogg! A gift from my daughter who thought it was a joke, little did she know I had it in my Amazon cart at the time! Its good.

I am a huge cookbook fan! I read them like novels. I have to say I have all the ones you listed except for the Keto. I should do Keto but then I should be doing a lot of things I’m not😁 I get the Cooks Country magazine too as well as several others. I tried out the Pioneer Woman’s magazine but am not a fan. My Mom just gave me her Better Homes and Garden cookbook that she got as a gift when she was 13, she turned 76 yesterday so you know that sucker is old but I will value it always.

Are used to watch Rachael Ray and the Food Network religiously Wayback in the day. The same time you did and I agree it’s just not the same. I have the first issue of Martha Stewart everyday food. That was the best little magazine there’s so many great recipes in it I still make the turkey meatballs from there and I make a noodle kugel that a reader sent in.

I know everyone seems to have it, but I really like the Magnolia Table cookbooks. I have found many great recipes in both volumes that are easy to make and don’t include too many crazy ingredients. I bought Cook Once, Eat All Week per your recommendation and I’m making my first recipe from it tonight!

Love all these! I’m new to ATK but just subscribed to their emails and website access. I’m on the fence about which cookbook I should order...I may do the vegetarian one. I have the Rachael Ray 50 and PW. Do you have a method to how many new recipes you try from your cookbooks in a week or a month? I try to make a new recipe from one of my cookbooks each week ...I used to do a couple a week but realized the kids weren’t up for it all the time lol. Thanks for sharing.
