  • Caribena versicolor egg sac removal and breeding update
Today we pull the first Caribena versicoloured egg sac of 2023 this is an unusual one as this female has always chosen to be on the floor when webbing up her home , quit unusual for a arboreal spider ?
So lets see what we find .

As an Aussie I've been taught to literally fear the snakes & funnelweb spiders around our house as a child. This was quite a reasonable reaction by my parents considering the medically significant brown snakes, red belly black snakes & eastern taipans. I've since have kept some pythons over the years& gotten past a lot of snake fears. Dave has piqued my interest in tarantulas as I watch these videos but my funnelweb fear is still a thing. Still I am learning with interest which is helpful all the same.

This channel is one of my favourite TH-cam channels.
And I am not fond of arachnids but slowly becoming fascinated by the huge variety of spiders discussed in the videos.
When you live in Australia, you learn to respect poisonous creatures such as spiders (Sydney Funnel Web), snakes (taipan, brown, tiger) and sea creatures (box jelly fish, blue ringed octopus, cone shells etc).
We have some magnificent Orb Spinners in our area. They were sent up in a space shuttle

Awe, when I seen the title of this video, I was really excited about it because I love seeing the eggs with legs, and them going into their nursery pot and into their incubator.
It’s a pity that the egg sac wasn’t viable 😢😢 But Mum looked in fab condition still 🧡🕷️
Nice to see the slings ready to go to Taunton (Camera Lady done a fantastic job with your table setup)

I became a fan when you only had around 2,000 subscriptions but I knew that overtime that would change because you were just that good. All other tarantula hobbyist should study your methods if they want to raise happy healthy tarantulas. So good on you keep it up and I look forward too much much more to come. Just as a side note my favorite videos of yours are the new housings or upgrading housings because they are always so informative and really brings out your creative side. I have several T's, one of which is a T.apophysis and even though he's still a sling I was surprised to find that Edison (yes, that's his name 😂) took over 3 weeks to stretch each segment out and harden up with his last molt and refused to eat for another week. Aww shame about the egg sack not being fertile, but like you said these things happen. I do agree with regards of the slings they can grow and moult a few times, then pass for no reason. With regards of larger spiders moulting, I normally wait till they are about either attacking the water, or going on a wonder before feeding them after a moult. My mm A Gen started climbing the side after his moult, so I knew he was ready... He's tapping on the side so he's definitely ready lol.

Hey Dave, can I ask a bit of advice about these? My daughter fell in love with an adult female at the Taunton show the other day, so we picked up a sling. It's about 4cm, we rehomed it cos it was in a teeny pot and it's doing well, it's webbed up some already and ate a fat wax worm (very cool to see it get smaller and smaller until Spidey had drained it!) Anyway, question is, how often will it molt at this sort of age? It's currently a stunning blue with a fat abdomen (stripey pattern is prominent) There doesn't seem to be anything I can find online about frequency of molting and or growth rate. Was nice seeing you at the show, you were very busy!

I hope she produces a raging success!! Is there any kind of "average" time for an egg sac to be dropped with versicolors? Seems like that kind of statistic is a bit of a pipe dream! That sort of thing ? Sorry to be a pain. No problem if you don’t . Still fascinated by your channel. Still scared stupid of arachnids 😂😂😂 . Oh no. She is a lovely one. Hey maybe she wanted to be tucked away in the dark. Maybe that is why she tucked under the short bark. You have to take the bad with the good. We have a numbers game that way too. Peace 🕷

The Psychology of Spiders. Pretty mama. She really didn't want you to take that. Maybe she knew there were a few good eggs in there. What is the earliest they might become defensive or aggressive?

    Bummer about the egg sac.
Are you breeding the T.seladonia this year. I really enjoyed those episodes when all the babies lined the inside of the momma’s hide.

Sacs get pulled quite often in the Beastie Room, so I'm thinking there must be a high attrition rate with slings, ie many not surviving, or you must be able to move them onto other keepers very frequently Because otherwise surely you would end up with far too many grown tarantulas to keep.

    • @daveslittlebeasties
      @daveslittlebeasties  ปีที่แล้ว +1

The survival rate once hatched is very very high all slings go back into the hobby , but it does take a long time to feed them all while they are here 😂👍
