    I have done many conversions to natural gas with kits. The main issue with the conversion is jumping between lpg and natural gas fuels, you have to adjust the air/fuel mixture it's small amount but makes a difference. If you go back to gasoline no need to adjust a air/fuel mixture. Now the fun part, if you want your generator to run at full load on natural gas or lpg you must adjust the rpm's. "BUT" big BUT if you swap back to another fuel the rpm's will be off and over run your generator. That's why I think tri fuels from the factory have a lower rating on lpg and natural gas, not having to adjust rpms finding a happy point between all 3. I think that unit is worth money especially if it has low THD. Great work Gavin!

      Is there a good guide somewhere on tuning RPM for NG conversions?

    • @bayouslots3143
      @bayouslots3143 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AdamFeldman42 No guide that I know of, engines and models adjust different. You can google or youtube your generator for how to "adjust RPM's, you will also need a small engine tachometer. Do this at your own risk, first time I tried fudge it up. Loosen governor in place of just making a small bend to the spring holder. Most of the time it's only about 300 to 600 rpm's but it does make a difference.

      First of all Natural Gas burns cooler than propane, that is why they have a different orifice and spring load on the regulator, second it is impossible to get a standardized fuel pressure system in the US, some areas are better than others and others areas are nearly impossible to achieve, this why I think most manufactures want to use gasoline and propane. This is why you need to know the WC rate of your natural gas for the region, we have 8" WC so we are good, some areas around us how High Pressure but you are not allowed to tap off those lines, big problems doing that.

    I wanted one of these trifuel Genmax really bad, but could not justify the price. Plus I read several review that the build quality was not always that good. Instead I went with an open frame Westinghouse 12500. You get 500 more watts on natural gas than the Gemax. I know it will be a little louder, but I can get past that.

      Those 240v heaters don't use a neutral.

  • @JG-gw3up
    @JG-gw3up ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video. What size NG hose is that? At these power levels, you want a 3/4" NG hose, because you will be needing upwards of 130,000 BTU/Hr. A 25' 1/2 inch hose can only deliver about 95,000 BTU/Hr, but a 25' 3/4" hose can deliver about 150,000 BTU/Hr. Using a too small hose is like breathing through a straw.

    • @GeneratorReviews
      @GeneratorReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      95,000 BTU is more than enough for two of these generators after one of my customers had someone calculate the BTUs ratings came up with 35,000 per unit.

    • @JG-gw3up
      @JG-gw3up ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My friend.... don't be so sure! 35,000 BTU is about what my 3 burner Webber gas grill needs! And it has no motor. You might want to look at the manual for that Genmax. My 8,000 Tri fuel Champion generator (100416) is smaller, and according to the manual on page 33-34, Champion says undersizing the NG supply is the #1 reason for under performance. Champion 8,000 watt Tri fuel needs a maximum NG flow rate of 135,000 BTU/Hr at 5-7" of WC. See P.34 of the manual. (link below). And that is to just generate 7,000 watts on NG! So, unless Genmax has somehow figured out how to extract 3X the BTU per CU/FT of NG than all others, your Genmax must need at least as much - if not more - BTUs of NG to run at a higher power! I tried to find a Genmax manual online to see what the manual says, but was unsuccessful. The Champion manual can be found here: www.championpowerequipment.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/100416-om-english-21APR2800000-Y2203160048.pdf

    • @AdamFeldman42
      @AdamFeldman42 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The specs in the video description say it uses 3.27 cubic meters of NG per hour, at 100% load. That’s about 115.5 cubic feet per hour, or 120,000 BTU/hr.

    @laramie_1944 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks for the show Gavin. So, if it’s running on natural gas, will carbon monoxide be a concern or not? You mentioned it smelled like a stove, so I thought maybe CO is not a concern, but I’d like to confirm it with the expert. Thanks again.

    • @GeneratorReviews
      @GeneratorReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you still have to run the generator outside 10 to 15 feet away from any opening just because you’re running on natural gas that still applies.

    Do you know if this is a "floating neutral" generator or a "bonded neutral" generator. I need a floating neutral to interface with my Generlink switch, and my Honda EU6500 is that. But it will cost $1000 Canadian to convert to natural gas so better to buy a dedicated tri fuel unit as long as it is a floating neutral generator

    • @GeneratorReviews

      This one’s a floating neutral

    • @TOURMANBOB
      @TOURMANBOB หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GeneratorReviews SUPERB !! Now I have to figure out how to get this in Canada to replace my Honda EU6500 and have a home backup that works on natural gas. Unfortunately, the TMG Industrial generator which looks to be almost an exact copy of the Genmax, is "bonded neutral" so can't be used. Also converting the Honda to natural gas through PMG Technologies will cost me almost $1000 for parts and this makes no sense when I go to resell the unit. So, at this point, I'm in limbo................

      Genmax definitely proving itself to be a quality product.... anxious to see the max 240v amp output on gas.... see what it can sustain without tripping the breaker.... it claims 35 amps on 240....
      Would like to see how the load cell shows power divided when two of the big dogs are in parallel (9k or 10.5k) .does one max out & the other pick up the excess, or does it split the load evenly? .. the plug is rated 50 amps... so what happens once it reaches its max 50amp load.... if two big ones are paralleled, theoretically capable of over 60amps even with the 9k... do you simply get limited to 50amps?
