As a long time camper ...my wife and are noticing more and more people going to the smaller RV types rather then the more difficult big rigs . More choice in camping spots..easier to maneuver...tow and store .
They should have also loaned you a Jeep Grand Cherokee or something small like that to really test that dexter sway control system. Can't tell you how many white knuckle drivers I've seen living on a prayer towing trailers without even an anti-sway bar or weight distribution. For the trailer itself, it looks like they're trying to be premium...but I would never consider any layout where you have to crawl over someone to get out of bed premium.
Chad & Tara: "cute little rig" for short interval camping, especially if you are going to move around with all tanks full/nearly full it doesn't allow for much additional weight in forms of baggage, grill, etc....with tanks full leaves only 152 pounds (974 lbs =CCC MINUS 822 lbs full tanks). I think it needs greater weight carrying axles & stronger frame. "just my opinion"
Thank you for sharing. My wife and I have a 16 foot wolf pup (no slide dry wt 2800). It is large enough for us & our ferocious creature ( 10 pound cat). It pulls easy and like you say fits in a lot of places. Can’t wait to see the videos on how you use it. Safe travels and keep up the good work - Kurt
Thank you for the honest review. I see many plusses. That little thing you've been traveling on looks tight but perfectly doable 👌 Tara you look absolutely beautiful with a little added weight❤️ You have been blessed with good looks and a spunky personality. Chad adores you and you him. Keeping that sparkle in your marriage is the way to stay close✨️
This looks like a nice trailer. First, I gotta give it to Grand Design: they know how to do windows. There's a lot of outdoor storage, and that's a good idea on the steps. Excellent Ace Ventura, Tara!😂 The interior is understandably cosy yet well optimized. I look forward to a factory tour showing off it's structural design. I'm not usually taken with trailers, but the Serenova intrigues me enough to want to see more. Thanks for the tour, Chad, Tara, and Daisy.💙🤍❤️👍🏾
Nice rig for the size. I was surprised at how much room you actually have there. Tara did find the one issue with all overhead cabinets. Bang your head a few times and you learn. The table at the front area was great, I've never seen an articulated table ( if that's what it would be called ) much better than doing the bent over two step shuffle. I'm afraid this would be too small to live in full time. Y'all did a great job on this. Looked like it had Miss Daisy's approval as well, but I'd bet she would approve of anything as long as she was the center of attention. Bless y'all on your travels, stay safe until we see y'all again.
It's a neat little travel trailer and well designed but has some issues. The bathroom sink is a little 'meh', and a 2000 watt inverter seems a bit small for all the electrical items inside. The bathroom vent fan is the same one that our Grand Design 278BH had, and it didn't take long for us to realize that it was terrible, so I pulled it out and replaced it with a much better one with a remote control. There's no way that a single burner would be sufficient for many who cook much. Also, given that lithium batteries are so popular, I would like to see a spot inside the trailer for them, not just on the trailer tongue.
I have a Lance 1685... pretty much the same size overall, but a few differences of course. What I REALLY like about "your" rig is the bed in the rear. (Mine is up front). With this size rig I find I back in to spots most frequently. The best views and best sleep is frequently out the back! Very interesting rig. Would love to hear about longer term off grid with that power hungry setup... Nice review, thanks!
@@ADONAIsays-so gas stove or not the first thing I do to any RV is rip out the gas/electric fridge, replace it with a standard 120V refrigerator and close the vents that the were needed for the old fridge. I don’t like them. They take forever to cool down, the freezer always ices up and I have wasted so much meat that didn’t stay properly in the freezer. A standard 120v compressor refrigerator will keep food fresher for longer and can run just fine in a 1-2 KWH power station if it is recharged either with solar or a generator.
I agree that the 50 amp power connection doesn't make sense. I don't know that running the heat pump, microwave, and induction cooktop simultaneously would draw even 3000 watts, much less 3600. Even though we have a 50 amp power connection in our Grand Design 278BH, it's pretty unusual that we use more than 30 amps total at a time.
First thing they need to replace is the bathroom vent/fan toy. That fan is useless and noisy. That other cool Max needs to be in there since there's a need to move air and steam. I'm also fairly sure that one element stove won't work for many. Needs a couple of burners and a decent exhaust fan/hood. For the gross weight, seems like 4 tires would be best. What make is the refrigerator you think works so well?
Not crazy about the bathroom. Good video and the finish overall of the camper looks good. But I haven't shaken off the unfortunate way Grand Design handled the whole frame flex situation, so I would be hesitant to buy into anyting new from them now.
Looks to be a nice step up from old, single axle trailers. I, too, see the CCC of 974 lbs to be 50% of the minimum to be realistic. 2 30 gal holding tanks, plus 39 gal of water, plus 50lbs of propane, 50 lbs for a spare tire, 20 lbs jack, bedding, clothing, oh yes, some food, outdoor chairs, some tools, you get my drift! Perhaps a good topic for a video or two would be: Is my documented by the manufacturer dry wt of the rig anywhere near the actual wt. as measured on a CAT Scale? THIS IS IMPORTANT IF THE GVWR is realistic for safe operation. THE MORE THE ACTUAL DRY WT IS, the less you should carry so as to be within manufacturer’s design. Most Rv’ers never weigh their rigs, regardless of type; ask them! Very detailed, thoughtful review by both of you. Thank you, Rollo
Interesting. The challenge to evaluating this trailer is the context of size so I had to take that into consideration. As for me... Pros: Windows and shades, Awning, Front seating area, Separate shower, External storage well utilized, Independent suspension, 60,000 BTU heater, and I like that they did not tuck the tires under the trailer but left them on the outside with a nice fender. Cons: Separate gray and black is a NO, Induction cooktop, No obvious way to secure that barn door when traveling, Sink in bathroom (seen in another brands truck campers and was a failure), Not having a spring-loaded electrical popup on the counter, Garbage fan in the bathroom, Too small of a bed with no way to get out for a midnight bathroom need for whoever is on the far side, Hard pass on loud A/C units!!!!!! Thanks for the tour! Excellent!
First, I want to thank you both for being completely transparent that as ambassadors, y’all were asked to try out this model. NONE of the other RV TH-camr’s have been. AND a big thank you for stating the CCC immediately. The other RV TH-camr’s hedged around that issue completely. I would like to know what your fully loaded weight turned out to be, and whether you were able to stay under the CCC max. As for the rig, it’s attractive looking. I loved the amount of exterior storage. Seems well thought out. Loved the windows!!! Didn’t love the cheap window shades. Thought the interior was well thought out, but, the overhead bins are horrible! They should be designed like airplane overhead bins. Would solve a lot of problems, and head injuries. Think the microwave placement is fine, and am really impressed with the under sink cutout drawer! Ingenious! Thank you for a great video, and some wonderful Daisy sighting! PS: Tara is looking much better!
Like the lay-out. The cabinet's are dangerous and I'd wish for a tiny bit more space. Width for a normal bed (6in.)and length for a pantry and towel shelf.(1ft.) Of course double axle would be necessary anyway.
Thanks for the thorough review. I'll bet backing that short thing up with your 450 is fun! :-) Wondering how much of the storage is accessible from the inside. Are those drawers under the bed? I like your idea of splitting the lighting control fore and aft (shout out to your Navy service Chad). How bout also adding dimmers. We like the popup power port in the counter top. Will think about adding one to our 17MKE. What is behind that panel in the upper kitchen cabinet? Seems like a waste of volume for just three switches. Is there really a need for two ceiling fans in something that small, especially with the space above the barn door to the bathroom. It's hard to get to that knob to open the vent for that one in the bathroom for short folks as well. My wife is 5 ft. LIking the independent suspension. Great video. The panoramic window is beautiful, but the view is obstructed by your car. I would have preferred an inverted floorplan with rear living. The CCC is low. Wish the bed was a regular queen mattress and more space to walk around the bed. The bathroom sink needs to go. it's terrible. Im surprised the awning is not wider, taking the length of the RV. Overall, it's a beautiful camper, but the bed situation would be a deal breaker. Would like to see more space in that bedroom. Thank you for sharing!
That is a cute camper! Nice style, colors, and suspension. I agree with you on the steps. This looks well made and the frame looked aluminum. Would love to see this in a 27ft model with 4 wheels. 👍
This is an amazing unit for its size with a ton of advanced features. My quick comment - The bathroom sink needs a lot more thought. Personally, I love the solid steps and it would cost almost nothing to have a secondary latch for step retraction when packing up and windows are already closed. There should be at least two induction burners in the kitchen. - Cheers!
My husband and I have watched your channel for years. We love watching you, Tara and Daisy. It’s a rainy day here and we were mindlessly watching all kinds of TH-cam videos. We come across a video with the title ‘13 RV Overnighters that Surpass Walmart (RV Life) by the channel Rollin with River. I don’t know if you gave permission for this guy to use clips of your video but he has you, Tara and Daisy without using your names. I noticed because the first thing I noticed was your Ford. (Ford girl here!) Then I saw the RV. I apologize if you gave this guy permission to use your likeness and camper but if you didn’t I thought you should know.
I can appreciate what GD is trying to do here but no way I'd buy this over an Intech trailer. The only advantage here is not having a wet bath. Cargo capacity is a joke for the amount of storage space. People will overload this trailer. And a single burner in the kitchen?? Come on.
Chad, Tara and Daisy, I'm just one person, but that is too small for me. It does offer a lot; windows, storage, and I am sure that there are people that will love it specially if they don't feel comfortable driving a 350, or 450. This looks perfect for a half ton or some suv's
It is about a good size you could get a lowboy trailer put this and a horse trailer on and take both behind your 450 to the mountains to go riding. lol. It is pretty nice if they worked with a horse trailer company and put a nice interior in a horse trailer they could expand the market. Also I have commented this for years but the flooring for pontoon boats work well in some of these little campers since it can be cleaned easier. I have seen many are using it instead of carpet but even for regular flooring it cleans well.
I sure love y'all's videos and the stresses of Life seem to be put on hold while I'm watching them. PS I kind of laughed out loud when I saw the size of your RV compared to the small one you're testing lol. Keep up the great work guys! 🇺🇲🇺🇲❤️❤️💯💯
For what this trailer probably is going to cost, it’s amazing it doesn’t have a north/south bed. Plus the overhead cabinet doors are sorta funky, could be a head banger.
Very nice review. I was also in the Great Smokey Mountains in August and stayed at Elkmont campgrounds. It was also Jeep Weekend and there were LOTS of jeeps everywhere! They looked like they were having fun!! What most surprised me about the campground was not having any showers at the restrooms. It was basically boondocking. I'm sure you were able to utilize your solar, so hopefully you'll mention how good or bad the trailer is when using it off grid. Thanks again for the review.
Cute rig! Chad, I snore as well. Got a sleep study recently and I have sleep apnea. CPAP therapy is not glamorous but I feel better than I have in years. You may want to look into it. Just a thought 💖
I just purchased a small 21 foot travel trailer which I like. But, I am very impressed with the design this small (20.2 feet) Grand Design unit. Lots of features mine doesn't have. However, I don't like the position of the queen bed which you can only get in on one side. Mine is positioned so you can get in on both sides. The other thing that concerns me is it only has a cargo limit of 964 lbs. verses mine at over 1,300 lbs.
Stink bugs, we survived a hatch or something, had tons of stink bugs to deal with for two days on very recent camping trip. We were two weeks in one PA state park. They get everywhere!!
Put the a/c in the camper that Host truck campers use. It is 12v and it is quiet. You can actually watch tv with it on and in a Host it is direct over the TV in a Yukon 11.6. You can run it several hours on a moderate 600ah battery bank.
Myles RVs channel just posted a tour video showing the Serenova 160LG at the Grand Design dealer show in Indiana. Comparing your video with Myles video, Grand Design has made some design changes that you recommended. I like the camper, but there isn't any hanging closet and changing the bed linen looks difficult.
Neat unit but the cabinets with all the sharp edges look dangerous especially over the bed. for me that would be a no go. Also, the lay out of the bed is not great for two people as you pointed out in the video and to short. I think 50 amp is great love the awning set up, good storage.
If you could make it longer...how many feet longer ? And what would you add/change ? North-South bed ? Bigger kitchen ? I am thinking for me about 24' or 25' would be nice ? God Bless you two. SGT DOUG, RECON, 101ST, RVN 68-69 LZ SALLY
Thank you for sharing this video! Do you know if there are issues with towing with a truck with a stiffer suspension? For example, in my T@b 320 boondock, I won’t be able to tow with anything larger than an F250 because it might damage the camper. Also, did you find that things stayed together well? I love my T@b for that (no annoying screws that fall out like some other campers.) I’m intrigued by this though, so thanks for showing us around!
Nice cabinetry, the outside is fine. The interior floorplan was really awkward for a couple. The bath across from the kitchen was a no go. Wish they had put the bath and bedroom where the dinette area is, then the kitchen and a couch on the opposite side with swing side trays instead of a dinette. Just prefer more division to give some privacy, if someone is sleeping while another is working. Congrats for getting through the testing experience!
Love watching yall! You two are such a balancing act LOL! Please tell them to upgrade the crappy drawer slides so the bearings don’t blow out.. I’m in the process of replacing all of ours..
We have a Grand Design Reflection 150 series rd260. One problem in our shower is to walls are not smooth. So we can’t put in those suction cup baskets or soap dishes. So tell them to put in smooth marble looking shower walls and not some non efficient artificial brick look that is even hard to squeegee the water off the walls to the pan in ALL their future models!
Loved this video but could you add to the list the cabinets in the bedroom have sharp edges. I could see both my husband and I banging our head on them. Could they round them some how or make them more flush the shelving.
I agree, however some of the newer LifePo4 batteries have a heater that allow the battery to be outside and it will keep the battery warm enough so it can be charged. I'm sure it's more expensive.
@@felishagathright4013 Good point. Most trailers just have the plastic box, but ours has a metal case with a lock. My point was that lithium can be outside.
Baffled as why GD obsesses with such low cargo carrying capacity. They did the same thing with their new Class C. Beef up the axles and frame so the CCC is like 1500. If you remember the pop-up trailers, they're ridiculous low CCC resulted in axles bending. GD all ready has problems with their frame flex; so, why not make a beefy towable and a beefy Class C.
Was worried at first. I wasn't sure if you were going to need a bigger truck to pull it. :) Cute camper! Like a bunch of the features but, wife is spoiled to having more room.
Great video. Pretty much cpoying intech and i had 2021 grand design imagine bought new would never buy grand design again due to poor quality and customer service. Hot water didnt work from start had to buy newfuse common problem and forst time turned on pump the front baggage compartment leaking so plumbing is crap using plastic love your videos though tnx
Hi Chad and Tara, I have watched a few of your TH-cam videos now and decided to subscribe, I live in the UK and we have nothing the size of your 5th wheel (which is stunning by the way) the Serenova is the average size of the UK rv's know as caravans. Not sure why the double fixed bed has to be so high up. I think a better design would be to lower it. I would be an absolute dream of mine to be able to do what you do and explore the USA in a Class A or 5th wheel. You are so much better set up than us, we do not have black, grey and fresh water tanks in our caravans and when we go to camp sites we have electric hook up but most of the time you have to use a barrel for water at a filling station and dump your chemical toilet in a slot in a wall.
Thank you for subscribing! We forgot to show a couple of drawers that are under the bed. The large outdoor storage area also contributes to the bed's high positioning. But, we agree with preferring the bed to be lower.
Hello I have been camping around fifty years an have probably had just about every other kind of camper . Also I am a ex truck driver so I think of these things. The MAIN THING I SEE . Mainly because of it being a single axle but it happens with two axles . Also with you having your 450 you are not paying attention to this As much an 90 Percent of the people that would purchase this unit would have just a regular truck. This unit has this GREAT BIG STORAGE BAY in the BACK WICH IS A NO NO . People would be a lot more likely to OVER OVER OVER LOAD this unit in the back for the main reason if not have big storage inside near front. With that over load IN THE BACK CAN AN WILL WILL WILL BE DEADLY BY PEOPLE NOT KNOWING OR NOT THINK. Just a thought but there is a lot I also like about this unit . Thanks
I personally could not live with that type of bed. Our 2006, 23 foot R-Vison TT has a walk around bed. Queen short is the most common. But yeah, seems like a full for sure. Our trailer has soooo much storage with a panty and utensil drawers and a cabinet for pots and pans. We looked at new comparable TTs and none has what we have. We are spoiled as I am sure you are in your large 5th wheel.

Personally, I love the solid steps and it would cost almost nothing to have a secondary latch for step retraction when packing up and windows are already closed.
There should be at least two induction burners in the kitchen. - Cheers!
That will be a nice unit for like family going out on a group trip with someone else in a camper like your 5th wheel. Private place for them.
Fantastic!
Rollin With RVer! Gawd I hate autocorrect!
Thanks for letting us know! We have no idea who that is, but will try to find the video 😊
I know you guys can't wait to get back into your toy hauler. ❤
Cute trailer, lots of storage....has an "Airstream" feel to it....
They’re trying to copy the Intech Sol Horizon. Is it all fiberglass, no wood ?
I see some Brinkley influence on this unit. A positive for the industry.
That sink type is in every stateroom on US Submarines 😂..
Even the F150 has a 13.5K tow rating. 👍🏼
Bummed I missed you in Ohio! Would have loved to have seen it! And Daisy and you guys too!!
Love your dog!!
Would be nice to hear a review of how it tows with a smaller truck (1/2 ton or Jeep Gladiator for instance)
We had to use what we've got 😜
We love the acrylic windows-we have those in our Winnebago View and had them in our truck camper.
Looks alot like our inTech.
Cute rig! Chad, I snore as well. Got a sleep study recently and I have sleep apnea. CPAP therapy is not glamorous but I feel better than I have in years. You may want to look into it. Just a thought 💖
I actually don't snore.. I just breath loud.. LOL
Kind of surprised not to see any range hood/vent fan? Thanks for the video!!
Bet you couldn’t tell that tiny camper was even behind your 450🤣🤣
We’ve re-subscribed to your channel after finding this. Very interested in this model, and looking forward to follow-ups. Thanks.
Nice little camper we are in Elkhart Indiana now we would like to meet with you guys sometime for lunch
Love it, am looking.....
Neat unit but the cabinets with all the sharp edges look dangerous especially over the bed. for me that would be a no go. Also, the lay out of the bed is not great for two people as you pointed out in the video and to short. I think 50 amp is great love the awning set up, good storage.
You guys are funny! Now I’m missing out on my motorcycle rides. 😆
What this really reminds me of is a b van in terms of both layout and the convection microwave instead of an oven is very common on motorhomes.
If you could make it longer...how many feet longer ? And what would you add/change ?
North-South bed ?
Bigger kitchen ?
I am thinking for me about 24' or 25' would be nice ?
God Bless you two.

I love that sliding table. Great idea. I have seen some trailers where, yeah, how do I get onto the seat to sit at the table in 6 inches of space?
Try command strips. 👍🏼
Seems like a lot of trailer weight for a single axle ?
Tara, you look like you're feeling well -I certainly hope you are! And you look lovely as usual. Give sweet Daisy a kiss. She's so sweet
Thank you! 💖
Loved this video but could you add to the list the cabinets in the bedroom have sharp edges. I could see both my husband and I banging our head on them. Could they round them some how or make them more flush the shelving.
Batteries need to be inside. If you upgrade to lithium, they can't be outside. Love seeing y'all trying new things.
I keep mine outside. You just can't camp below freezing and expect your batteries to take a charge.
I agree, however some of the newer LifePo4 batteries have a heater that allow the battery to be outside and it will keep the battery warm enough so it can be charged. I'm sure it's more expensive.
@patrickrobichaux Then security of the batteries. People be stealing.
@@felishagathright4013 Good point. Most trailers just have the plastic box, but ours has a metal case with a lock. My point was that lithium can be outside.
Favorite part was Tara sitting on the potty watching the microwave!! Cute unit but too small for me.
Thanks for the video.
I love it❤
Baffled as why GD obsesses with such low cargo carrying capacity.
Love it❤ does it come with twin bed option?
Was worried at first. I wasn't sure if you were going to need a bigger truck to pull it. :) Cute camper! Like a bunch of the features but, wife is spoiled to having more room.
So are we! LOL
Glad it’s u dear your towing capacity😁👍🏻
Interesting, but who was it that made the refrigerator?
Nice review
Looks pretty nice, I hope they come out with bigger models in that line. You sure you have enough truck for that? ;-)
I gave you guys a thumbs up just for your pain and suffering. 😄
😂🤣
I love you both!!
Love you back! ☺
Hey look a InTech!
Separate black and grey? I've never seen that... what happened to using Grey to rinse after Black dump?
Just dump the black and then move the hose and dump the grey. You can also just use the tank flush.
Tank flush is built in. With the dump so close to the tank, it flushes very fast.
What do they think the MSRP will be?
Web site says 59K, but that might change.
I feel a little silly but I can't figure out where to locate your blog.
Hello I have been camping around fifty years an have probably had just about every other kind of camper . Also I am a ex truck driver so I think of these things. The MAIN THING I SEE . Mainly because of it being a single axle but it happens with two axles . Also with you having your 450 you are not paying attention to this
As much an 90
Percent of the people that would purchase this unit would have just a regular truck. This unit has this GREAT BIG STORAGE BAY in the BACK WICH IS A
NO NO . People would be a lot more likely to OVER OVER OVER LOAD this
unit in the back for the main reason if not have big storage inside near front. With that over load IN THE BACK CAN AN WILL WILL WILL BE DEADLY BY PEOPLE NOT KNOWING OR NOT THINK. Just a thought but there is a lot I also like about this unit . Thanks
Good point. People need to pay attention to load distribution for sure.
Would like to see a twin bed version like the Intech Sol Dusk
Just throw the trash out the big open window.....LOL
Microwave drawer would solve the height concern
I personally could not live with that type of bed. Our 2006, 23 foot R-Vison TT has a walk around bed. Queen short is the most common. But yeah, seems like a full for sure. Our trailer has soooo much storage with a panty and utensil drawers and a cabinet for pots and pans. We looked at new comparable TTs and none has what we have. We are spoiled as I am sure you are in your large 5th wheel.
We are spoiled as well LOL This was a fun experiment, but we also missed our larger bed!
Grand Design = The Boeing of Travel Trailers
Would like at least two 30 pound propane tanks and 4 tires.
That would add weight, right now even a Jeep suv like a Grand Cherokee or Commander can tow this and it is easier to get into a space.
Hope this finds you and family safe . This with Helene 🙏🏼
Thank you! We are doing just fine and are safe. Our hearts break for all those who weren't as lucky 😓
My question is…how many times did the tv get kicked rolling over in bed 😂 Cute trailer for a weekend get away or a few more days 😊
Do you think your truck can pull the Serenova 160LG, it looks pretty heavy.
😂🤣
