The great aircraft I think. no matter how smart a pilot of sophisticated fighter jet like F-22 Raptor must have ridden this aircraft. Didn't it? Is the pilot here? What you think? I think out of your mind.
I flew the T38 jet trainer in 1970 during UPT and believe me when I say what I was able to do in it still blows me away. I'm sure every pilot that trained in it have their own stories. Of the many 'there I wuz' stories we all have, wuz the time I flew a solo cross country to Williams AFB (Phoenix) from Lorado AFB in Texas, to visit my grandparents. These are people that were born in the 1800s before the first flight at Kitty Hawk. They saw the evolution of airpower, the automobile, and the space race that put men on the moon. And now they are seeing a sleek T38, piloted by their grandson that grew up on an Indian reservation, landing right in front of them after a trip around the pattern, taxing up, and me climbing out to greet them. They were so, so emotional they couldn't even articulate their feelings or what they thought. Grandpa had the last word though when I left. I asked for an unrestricted max AB sub sonic take off with a climb out to 40,000 feet on a clear day. I sucked the gear up halfway down the runway to .9 Mach and pulled the nose up. I was told later as my T38 climbed out of sight to them it seemed vertically, my grandpa turned to my grandmother and aunt and said "Showoff." Man, what they must have thought...
I love this story! They must be very proud of you. It is my life's dream to ride in (or maybe even own) one of these one day. But I'm not sure whether that's possible for a civilian...?
Thanks for the comment. They were proud especially Grandpa, a men of few words, couldn't stop talking and asking about it later. BTW, there is a TH-cam here that says T-38s are for sale for $275,000. Find that TH-cam and maybe comment to get the details.
Indeed. They couldn't stop talking about it to the rest of the family and they had 7 kids including my mother and at that point, 20 grandkids. It was a bit embarrassing.
My name is James Southern California retired Navy. T 38 is nothing more than a hot rod you’ve got to love it or hate it but I love playing up in simple. She’s a friggin hot rod
It's called tandem seating. Generally the student was in the front seat and I{ (Instructor Pilot) was in the back seat. I was an IP for five years before going to Vietnam. The T-38 is a beautiful airplane and a lot of fun to fly.
As far as I know..Germans never had the T38 nor the F5. Norway, The Netherlands, Switzerland* and Portugal had the F5’s. Some of the Dutch F5’s still fly with the Turkish Air Force (Demo team Turkish stars). *Still some in service
The narrator stated that the T-38 had a side by side configuration for the pilot and trainer, it does not, it has a forward and rear configuration for the trainer and pilot.
I am not familiar with a T-38 variant with a side-by-side cockpit (i.e. F-111) configuration as stated at 2:09. I'm assuming that was just a mistake. I have only seen them in a tandem cockpit configuration. Unless I have missed something somewhere (which is possible).
I flew the T-38 and it’s not side by side pilot sitting as you stated, you need to correct your narration. The T-37 was side by side but it’s plain to see, even for the novice, that the 38 is not.

Dummy says it seats 2 in a side by side configuration when it is defiantly Tandem seating

beautiful story! thank you!
There is an error in the narration. The seat configuration is the standard 'tandem' configuration, not side by side. The T-37 "Tweet" is side by side.
What they said...2:09.
Flying the T-38 was a blast. Unlike your statement at 2:09 it didn't feature "side-by-side" seating.
I graduated from UPT in April of 1991… I still fondly remember every ride I took in the -38…what an awesome airplane to fly…
The engines are not in the wing root. They are at the aftmost of the fuselage. Ahead of the engines, are the inlet ducts, which are in the wing roots.
The T-38 and the 747 are the two most beautiful planes ever designed.
Loved flying that plane in UPT!
It's basically a stripped down F-5 Freedom Fighter
Not so. There are numerous significant differences that make the F-5 capable of carrying ordinance.
True, but they are basically the same aircraft design. The F-5 variant does have differences and that is why it is a variant of the design.@@SR711982

You will lower all the other sounds in the video so the voice we should be lisening to can actually be heard properly and not drown it out.
we will try to make it better for the next video. Thanks for your information

Isn't "side-by-side configuration" where a pilot and a co-pilot sit next to each other and share the instruments? Like in a commercial wide body?
Yes, the narrator made a mistake.

Never saw a T38 with side by side seating as the guy mentioned.
I noticed the same thing.
Thank you 😊 And God bless you Amen 🙏💖
Can´t wait to handle this Jet in DCS. Comes soon as FREE module to learn fly a super sonic jet trainer.
Amazing piece of American made dominance
Mỹ là một nước siêu cường về không quân cũng như hải Quân. Mỹ rất tuyệt vời hi 🇺🇸👍
Crazy to see the same planes that I've worked on multiple times.
In UPT at Reese 78-98 we called it a White Rocket.

Hard to believe that this plane was designed in the late 50's.

Do we still use the F5 to train foreign fighter pilots or have we went to the 38s?
In the 70's we trained foreign pilots in the T-38.
Welcome to the paradise
♪ Great ! 😘 ♪
The Lightning T4 was in service before the T-38 was in production. OK so the Lightning T4 was a twin tub fighter but still a supersonic trainer.
Nice
Thanks
Is there a civilian version of this, one can purchase for private flight?
Yes, if you can find one.
