The modifications to the inlets and tail pipes were done by engineers at NASA-Johnson Space Center. I was the design engineer of the inlet. the inlet was modified to improve take-off performance to the airplane. The new inlet provided close to a 20% increase in take-off thrust. The ejector mod was done in conjunction with the engine manufacturer, GE, and provides an increase in thrust at cruising speeds.
I flew the T-38 when it had steam gauges! After flying the T-37 this was a true Cadillac. We did our instrument training in the back seat sometimes , under the canvas hood. It was like being under a blanket. I learned a lot quickly!
This is a jet that almost any pilot could fall in love with. She looks like she is ready to fly. It will be sad day when Uncle Sam retires the legendary T-38 Talon.
it's a beautiful airplane. I remember back in the Philippines, they used to have the F-5s and boy, you'd stop everything you did and watch them in the sky fly overhead, which was a rarity.
Thanks for the video! I saw this beautiful aircraft at Airventure, but was wondering what the Agile Pod was for. Thanks for the look at the exhaust design too. I had to check my photos to see why I didn't remember it and the pics show that there was a cover over the exhaust and the engine intakes. Great to see these birds continue to provide excellent service!
Worked flight line support "engines" at Willie in the mid 80's then again at enjjpt at Sheppard in the last half of the 90's finished up ovhl the engine gearbox's at Hill, a nice jet-- rigging the AB fuel control to main control was fun along with the AB nozzle
One of my favorite aircraft. I started out on T-38's and F-5's in the early 1970's with Dynalectron Corp. on AOA, APX-72, zero/zero ejection seat retrofits and ended up with Boeing on the avionics upgrade. Great aircraft. I have to say I was a little disappointed when uncle sugar decided not to adopt the F-20 Tigershark. All political K Street shenanigans.
Sorry folks.... where I come from in the aviation world, cord showing on a tire is not acceptable. And tapping on a surface hoping to hear a 'failure' in the aileron actuator is akin to voodoo hoping to read your tea leafs..... otherwise a fine a/c video, live long and prosper!
Well, the Air Force has had that chord method for decades and it has worked out very well. And as far as the knocking on that bottom part of the wing, it’s not that we hope to hear anything, but that if it has failed then you would want to catch that on a preflight. That would be a no go item.
@@ErikJohnston While we flew with cords showing a fellow IP got a pilot error judgment from an AH accident investigator when the tire hydroplaned and locked up and blew on a wet day.
If I was Millionaire the Lord Jesus Christ and my heavenly father know I would own a F-5E fighter, just to fly to Maine and Alaska, Australia Britain Sweden Germany Iceland and Greenland, only if I was a millionaire, thou the T- 38 would be better choice because you can carry you gear and my wife, maybe another person if you remove much of the instruments and this would probably allow three persons plus yourself to travel though you will need to modify, and I would have to train and train It's a wonderful aircraft it has a good safety factors and it's pretty cool...
Great Video! Gremlin gave us a Complete and Thorough tour of that T 38!👍👏 Love that throwback D Day Livery!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Oshkosh looked like an amazing time full of awesome people
One of the most beautiful airframes ever designed!
Couldn't agree more!
Indeed!!!
It is a sleek little package. Sad we never deployed the F-5. So sexy!
Nice save on the tire chords comment lol. I was definitely thinking exactly what he thought I was when I saw that.
Dad was a 38 IP, Laughlin, Webb, Perrin, Sheppard. Great memories and childhood in the AF!

Love this jet!!!!! I did not work on them but they were near the hanger where I worked on A-10's. Thanks for the video.
Very cool!
I have always liked the look of the T-38.
Really interesting walkaround. Well presented. What an immaculate T-38 !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Such an amazing legacy! Training pilots from the century series and aircraft since that have come and gone.
Another great video, sir! Thank you!
My pleasure!
Love the paint job.
Thx for the walkaround. What was the white block obscuring the HUD ? Very sobering when you step on the seat knowing what the ejection system can do.

Thank you! This is the aircraft I would buy for a personal ‘toy’ if I were a billionaire…
I love it as much as an F-104!
outstanding ! thanks for posting.
Thank you. Very informative video!!!
You are welcome!
Great video and more info than normal ... Wow!

It gets me the government will save money by revamping a plane but pay $500 for a toilet seat.😂
