    You have to see this in person. A video can’t do it justice. I was at a motor show at the Half Moon Bay airport in California. There was an announcer over a loudspeaker. “Ladies and gentlemen, we have a special today. The air-force has kindly had a jet come by to give us a show.” It wasn’t an F-22. I think it was an F-16. This jet comes down the runway. It’s a very short runway. This thing takes off and goes vertical. The sound was amazing.

    From my seat as a Grumman/USAF child and USAF Airman during this time the Y-23 was the better choice , but politics rule the day , if they're not going to make anymore I hope they keep upgrading them, they are worthy .

    Part of the music in this video sounds like Anak by Freddie Aguilar, starting shortly after the 8 minute mark. I hope he got some credit for it.

    2:30 - Nope.
    There is a laundry list of airplanes that could supercruise decades before the F-22 was conceived. The earliest known instance was in 1954.
    The F-22 was the first MILITARY airplane designed with the capability as a distinct goal.
    The EE Lighting, F-104, F-16XL, Concorde, TU-144D SST, and several more were able to exceed 1 Mach in level flight without afterburner. Hell, even the F/A18-E/F and F-135 CAN do it. It’s just not an advertised feature because it wasn’t ever part of the design.

    In "Top Gun Maverick" there was a scene where a "Mig" just stopped in mid air but to me it looked like a F-22! Am I wrong?

    Curious..Can you ease throttle at 2:38 and land it standing? seen that other plane they tried to make along time ago in a docu series.

    • @zachmoyer1849
      @zachmoyer1849 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      you would actually have to be at nearly full throttle and barely ease it to land so its theoretically possible with the thrust vector and 1 to 1 power to weight ratio.

    Not the poster, that's for sure.

      The vertical take - off would belong to the Harrier Jump Jet. It had medium capability in it`s age in terms of overall agility and speed ( rather slow ) but managed to have a say in the British defense of the Falkland Islands after those Islands were invaded by Argentina in 1982. Where was NATO then ? A Member State of NATO`s territory being invaded by a none - Member State of NATO ? The French were selling Excocet Missiles to the Argentinians whilst the Americans were leasing us ( us Britons ) some ships. Thanks !

      @@dogwithwigwamz.7320 The Harrier is old tech from the 1980's. The F-35 is a very capable VTOL.

    A minute in, sadly this vid this late, but I am excited, yet depressed, YET understand due to cost... like a week or so ago saw our birds leaving from UK to ME on YT, Godspeed our military, just into almost four minutes, DAMN! What I saw from UK perspective just recently, unfortunately from a great a distance, when a dozen left, they left in semi-loop from take-off [not disapponting on trajectory, just distance] (caught myself saying cobra loop, damn rollercoasters, but it is amazing they do not need much of runway to go acrobat before you know it episode: amd they're retiring, damn).
    Sorry almost year later seeing it, yet I see awesome and being retired in a blink of an eye. The Raptor are as beauty as we see everyday in animal birds flying like its nothing... what is the F-22 next predecessor? Again the cost of maintenance is very expensive, but what is +1 on this one?
    Once it's gone TDA got you and YTers, we got to see true aerospace flying in our current time. Damn, that thing is wickedly awesome.

    Nothing an F-15 Eagle can't do and the Eagle is faster. Stealth and thrust vectoring are the major upgrades. When things get hairy, the Eagles still come out. Only 122 of these were ever made.

    F35b is part Russian, Lockheed martin bought the Russian yak-121 and uses it in f-35b, Lockheed hid the purchase of yak-121 from congress (Russian thrust vectoring black project) look at f-22, the yak-121 was supersonic and V-tol and S-tol which Evolved into thrust vectoring on main engines, that is why Russian su-57 jets are far superior, faster and more highly maneuverable, than f-22 and f-35.
