In general, all stands indicate that the range of the 'caliber' missile = 2500
kilometers! why are you deceiving the audience? you simply indicated the distance from the Caspian Sea to Syria is 1500 kilometers. and for that matter, in Russia, even under the USSR, there were long-range ship-based missiles, and it’s strange to hear that only the USA and Britain had this.

@@Krkovic100 Ukrainians have not been hit by Tomahawks. They have nothing to compare the Kalibr missiles to. Wouldn't you think if they both have about the same accuracy, the same range, the same payload, that the one that is harder to jam, that can have its target changed in flight, that is more connected, and can loiter, would be the superior one?

until 2015, the fact that only the USA and Great Britain had long-range cruise missiles could only or from someone who does not know about Soviet and Russian weapons. In the USSR, cruise missiles appeared earlier than in the USA, and in the 70-80s the USSR already had cruise missiles with a range of 3000 and 5000 kilometers (December 9, 1976, the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR was issued on the development of a universal strategic supersonic cruise missile 3M-25 "Meteorite" with a flight range of about 5000 kilometers. The rocket was supposed to become universal and get the ability to launch both from the sea - "Meteorit-M", and from aviation - "Meteorite-A" carriers. The rocket exists) , the caliber also did not appear in the 2000s, its ancestors are different modifications of the calibers of the 70-80s with a range of 3000 kilometers one of his ancestors is a unique ancestor - the S-10 Granat missile system with a long-range cruise missile KS-122 (3M10) equipped with a nuclear warhead. with a range of 2500 kilometers.
The missiles of the Caliber family were created on the basis of two projects: the 3M10 strategic nuclear cruise missile with a combat radius of 2500 km developed during the period from 1975 to 1984 at the Novator Design Bureau and the competition of anti-ship missiles Alfa (R&D "Turquoise").
Initially, only the Yakhont supersonic anti-ship missile took part in the Biryuza R&D competition, but its development was delayed, and the rocket came out expensive. At the same time, the 3M10 project had problems due to the planned Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. And the Novator Design Bureau, on its own initiative, in 1986, a non-nuclear version of the naval version of the KS-122 missile was proposed for competition, however, it did not suit the selection committee because of the subsonic attack speed. Work continued, and in 1990 a finished version appeared with a supersonic finish booster to overcome enemy defense systems. However, the beginning of the collapse of the USSR suspended the introduction of this product.
Also, in parallel, the development of an anti-submarine complex based on the KS-122 was carried out to replace the bulky and obsolete Vodopad and Rastrub-B complexes. The first version of the rocket in this direction was presented in 1997.
The Kalibr family rockets were first presented to the general public at MAKS-93.
The Russian Navy is armed with the Kalibr missile system. According to open sources, the maximum firing range of the 3M14 cruise missile from the composition of this complex, flying at subsonic speed, reaches about 2 thousand km. A variant of the Caliber-NK complex has been developed for surface ships, and the Caliber-PL complex has been developed for submarines. In particular, Russian frigates of project 22350, corvettes of project 21631 Buyan-M, multi-purpose nuclear submarines of project 885 Yasen, non-nuclear submarines of projects 877 and 636.3, and other ships are armed with Caliber.
On January 8, 2018, there were reports in the media about the start of work on the development of a modified version of the Caliber-M missile. According to a source, “The latest high-precision ship-based Caliber-M cruise missile with a maximum firing range of more than 4,500 km is being developed for the Navy.
( Today Caliber is much better than Tamogawk. Therefore, autumn is stupid to believe that Russia does not have long-range missiles until 2015. Russia has cruise missiles with a range of 5,500 kilometers, both sea and air based. Various modifications of Caliber also have a range of 300 to 4500 kilometers.
Therefore, your data on the range of 1500 kilometers is not correct. the maximum range of one of the modifications is 4500 kilometers, the range of calibers used in Syria is 2500 kilometers.
Today in Ukraine, various export-type modifications are used, cheap up to 300 kilometers and more expensive up to 2500, the same as in Syria, as well as Iskander strategic missiles up to 550 kilometers (cruised and ballistic), and Onyxes with a range of 550 kilometers as well, and also air-based

@Helton there's a big difference between missile dominance and being the only one manufacturing rocket engines. For whatever reasons our governmental entities preferred to farm out the manufacturing of the rocket engines to Russia. You're kidding yourself if you really think it's because that was beyond our engineering capability.
It was a favor to the Russian aerospace tech sector, and it was convenient for the US.
Musk looked over the numbers and saw that Russia was overcharging by a considerable amount for it's 1980's era rocket engine designs read: obsolete/inefficient. The Russian engines were disposable for a reason.
Thus he was able to introduce a modern state of the art engine design utilizing newer fuels in a far more efficient and durable design hence being reusable several times over.
The guidance and navigation of the US systems are far superior to anything that the Russian Federation can currently manufacture. You won't find Russian made chipsets and motherboards in any US weapon system. Lol, if only there were reliable Russian made chipsets and motherboards so that the Russian systems didn't have to resort to hijacking American chipsets and to further repurpose such in order to fit their needs.
Sadly this results in very inefficient electronic items that do not perform as reliably or as consistently as purpose built chipsets and boards. Which none of Russia's current modernized weapon systems have.
The best of Russia's weapons ALL have a little bit of American know how in them in order for them to even work.

If it can't hit 600km, how does it expect to hit it's fantasy range of 4000km plus? Where are those advanced chips coming from and in what numbers can the Kalibr be launched at. If it can't find it's target, how will it compensate? Someone's arm sales are doing very very badly. The Kalibr can be launched from so many different platforms, each one has that one little consistent problem , if you can't see your target, how are you hoping to ever hit it? Good luck on those arm sales.

There could, and most likely will be, an evaluation done in Russia's usage of them in Ukraine, by both sides. The problem for Russia is that they need western parts, parts they can no longer get. This will not only limit production, it will limit advances in capabilities, and more likely mean a degradation. On the other hand, the US can update the Tomahawk any time it sees the need. So for that reason, I'd give the Tomahawk a clear edge. (Doesn't mean the Kalibr isn't a dangerous weapon still, just less of them, and less accurate.)

    • @donmarconni

    • @michaelwittkopp3379

@@donmarconni And where Russia finds a loophole, a black marketeer, the US shuts them down. There's already been dozens of companies warned that they won't be able to buy in the US anymore. There's been arrests of people done. Sure, there's a lot of bad actors out there, willing to make illegal money. Problem with that is, that at best, Russia can only get a fraction of the needed parts. At the rate Russia can produce, and the rate they are being fired off, soon Russia will have to deplete their strategic reserves. So, don't look to China. China can't exist under a sanctions regime like Russia has, that's why some Chinese companies have pulled out of Russia. EU/US constitutes over 65% of their business, while Russia only about 4%. Russia isn't worth that much to China.

    • @donmarconni

14% of world population is part of western world. Much bigger part of the world is not. In the history, and last 60 year's, with NATO as a main alliance, westerns made lots of enemies in the world, everywhere... China has stronger real economy then USA, Russia more resources then all western world.
Do you see any problem in production of anything in Russia?! They produced more weapon in one day, then Nato countrys all together in 15 day's...US dollar, in free world, is staring to be avoided in business.. Russian rublja is never stronger, economy relatively stabil...But inflation in Europe is starting to be really huge...Sanctions to Russia, are actually sanctions for Europeans...How economy of Germany can be concurrent, on the world market with 4 time more expensive gas for protection then Asias had?!

I think you have to know first that US is even dependent to Russia and China's rare earth metals and chemical and even for their nuclear reactors. You are just trying to cover the truth by simply saying that Russia can't do it alone without the west. Or shall I say, looking down Russia while crying and begging for food and gas from them. If west is too advance, why Russia possessed the most deadliest weapon then? Russia is not a conqueror but still managed to make these weapons for defense. I know, you'll ask me how I call on Ukraine and Russia war but then ask your self why and how it ended up to this war. USSR is gone. Why? Ask US AND NATO. OKAY?

The Tomahawk has over 30 years of proven combat effectiveness, while the Kalibir only appeared in 2012. The Tomahawk has been regularly upgraded and improved and renown for its accuracy, but Russia does not make public the accuracy or reliability of the Kalibr missiles it has fired. Kalibr may not have some of the advanced loitering and interactive data link capabilities of the current Tomahawk, but that might well make it cheaper to mass-produce (in addition to parts commonality with family variants).
Tomahawk likely outclasses Kalibr is ECM capability. While Tomahawk’s IV block revision included electronic counter-countermeasures, the Kalibr family is relatively susceptible to jamming techniques. With the modification, Block V Tomahawk has improved its capabilities. Its networking capabilities are beyond that of most operational cruise missiles by a long margin.
