  • Expensive to build and often needing highly skilled engineers to maintain, artificial intelligence systems generally only pay off for large tech companies with vast amounts of data. But what if your local pizza shop could use AI to predict which flavor would sell best each day of the week? Andrew Ng shares a vision for democratizing access to AI, empowering any business to make decisions that will increase their profit and productivity. Learn how we could build a richer society - all with just a few self-provided data points.

      I remember wathcing his lectures and in them he say:

      and I was like what? don't worry? go learn calculus then come back for this.
      So, from more than a decade ago, he was pushing so hard to popularize and democratize AI.

    Andrew Ng never gets enough credit for the advances in AI over the years, but his push for making this revolutionary technology available to as many people as possible (first AI course available free on the internet!) and encouraging collaboration without care of political borders or academic paywalls has arguably done more for the field than any singularly developed algorithm has.

    That first minute pitch is just spot on mind blowing 💯

    • @renanboucard2729
      @renanboucard2729 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This first-minute pitch is kind of inaccurate. Literacy has been an effort led by the Church in medieval Western Europe, i.e. it was mandatory for a priest with more than 5 households in charge to organise education of children. On the contrary, productivists of the Enlightenment era and later industrial revolutions were indeed more keen in receiving labor for the fields rather than educated people. Big debate around this to be had... but M. Ng is not the only one with such misconceptions.
      However the talk is interesting for the conclusions it draws: AI is a new tool just like most others, and it needs to be harnessed by all sizes of businesses.

From automating repetitive tasks to analyzing data and providing personalized experiences, AI can help businesses to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and drive growth. Since I was a kid, I've loved tech for the simplicity and power of its purpose. It always fascinates me how new ideas are bearing fruit and along the way I'm coming up with ideas that others are also having and bringing into the world. I'm very proud to have thought about the same things as many bright innovators in the industry!
    (One of the crazy ideas I've had since I was a kid was a fingerprint scanner under the whole screen for theft prevention and real 3D 'TVs' where magnets would allign themselves into the shape of a 3D scanned object and a projector projecting the correct lights onto that object simultaneously - A bit like the nanobots from Big Hero 6).

I could see many companies cropping up that would offer a service of configuring these AI systems for a fee to SMBs. This could solve many problems and help people on the front lines of many different jobs! But, of course, those must be some very generalized models.

Think about the difference between python/java code and assembly code, which was used only several decades ago. Dacades later, kids might feel the code we use today is as ridiculous as assembly code. At that time, using AI might be as easy as using internet, which was like fantasy in last century.

    Not all AI projects are massive and super expensive that can only be built by companies. Diving into AI I've realized that small simple projects can use AI and that it can be a very simple thing to implement for even someone who doesn't have much experience or background in AI.

      How can a layman with no background in AI learn to use it and implement it ?

      @@user-jy5qm8nc9m First you need some knowledge in programming, web development or python programming in general is considered easiest to start. If you have some knowledge in programming you can try to follow along with some machine learning examples, you can find a lot on youtube. Just do the simple ones to get an understanding.

      @@user-jy5qm8nc9m Don’t let the commenter below fool you. You need mathematics and Statistics, then programming. You’ll understand far more with math under your belt. The more ambitious your goal, the more mathematical statistics you’ll need.

    What this man is describing already exists. It's essentially the body of mathematics known as operations research. In practice, AI is the language model that might be able to interpret a linguistic command, interface with a mathematical API, obtains the results, and presents them.
