  • Navy Petty Officer Second Class asked for a quiet reenlistment in Glorietta Bay. Things didn't go as planned and a Navy Chief went overboard. Hilarious. #manoverboard #usnavy #navychief
    Since the year 2000, 284 people have gone overboard or fallen off cruise ships and a further 41 have fallen off large ferries. In any given month, approximately two people go overboard and between 17 percent and 25 percent are rescued.
    Thank you for watching.

      @@tmayorca8770 it’s different being on a small boat compared to a large ship. Standard protocol is to yes keep pointing until you have confirmation that everyone has eyes on the man overboard and the oscar flag is flown. That is due to the size of the ship and the potential buffeting of large waves. On a small boat it’s different because you can easily relocate the man overboard given that he is wearing the required float coat/life jacket.

      I was never in the navy but I was a sailor. You just keep pointing and looking. Everybody who doesn’t have another critical job has that job until your shipmate is back on board. It is easy to lose sight of a person in the water. It’s also incredibly reassuring to the man overboard to see people pointing at him because he knows them that he is being seen.

    I don't understand how the guy ended up in the water. Was it off this boat?

      Yeah, the guy in the water was in a boat in front of us.

    Is that like seaman training? where you point at the direction of the man overboard while alerting everyone/anyone around you?
    because it was like clockwork everyone was in sync.

    • @hanason3082
      @hanason3082 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, we are trained to point and to keep sight on a person in the water until they're recovered.

      I learned it that you point at the person overboard until the helmsman has confirmed seeing them. I was a bit irritated, that the helmsmen never stopped the screws. I learned to get the person in the water to the side of your boat and set the engine to neutral and let the boat drift the last bit, so the screw(s) never endanger the person you want to rescue. Looks like the helm came on too fast and had to backpedal the whole time.

    WTH just happened? was this just some random guy they found overboard? I go fish this area all the time, it's so rare that I see any fisherman wearing a lifejacket, why was he.
