No it works as long as you have enough Calvary. As long as the horses have momentum, the shield wall will fall a the lines will fall into chaos. The first or second wave of horses should break the lines enough for the rest of the Calvary to go in as well as the foot soldiers

Yes, actually. The Thracians in the movie that Hercules trains are not soldiers - they are farmers and peasant-folks. Majority of the soldiers had joined Rhesus' rebellion. Rhesus was expecting an army of peasants who still erroneously supported the tyrant king - not a toughened, disciplined army, led by none other than a famed demigod son of Zeus himself. He expected this to be the final battle of their rebellion, but didn't expect to lose - which he did.

I think that's the point...from the film, a shieldwall was a totally novel tactic. If we accept that, within the film's timeline, a shieldwall was indeed something new, then yeah it is plausible that the cavalry would have tried a frontal charge. PLUS, alot of time Cavalry were to try and spook the opposing army, not neccessarily fight. PLUS, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Stirling_Bridge shows at least one instance of cavalry charging spears!
generally having cavalry charge into a shieldwall is a genuine tactic. 1 rider breaks up like 4 to 6 spearmen and if you have the footmen directly behind them you can create a gap ina shieldwall very easily.

Properly supported by light infantry to exploit the gap immediately. What we see on the screen is not even remotely close to that.

It is kind of possible, the horse was going full speed, about 25-30 mph, so i went with 32 since it was going downhill. A horse that size weighs about 1,200 pounds. So the horse already had lots of inertia, i did the math, and the horses weight was reduced to an astounding 321 pounds. Plus the weight of the rider and his armor was about 221 pounds. So the grand total is 542 pounds, which that man, HERCULES, could easily lift with his build.
How did this movie have a larger budget (100mill USD) than "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King"(94million USD), yet their ratio of 3:1 looks like 0.5:1.....Lord of the Rings had a 20:1 ratio and did an excellent job doing it with CGI. Then you see this movie and you see them using CGI yet you dont see the bigger ratio on the other side. WTF
I appreciate the fact that Hollywood at least TRIED to use a conventional real battle formation. It was a shame it was used only by one army and not both of them. It's also funny how they couldn't simply put the heroes into the shieldwall, but in front of the army where they classically fought 1v1 battles as we often see in movies that depict battles completely wrong, lol

That was the most ridiculous "attack" ever committed to film. They advanced in tiny little dribs and drabs even though, according to the script, they out-numbered Hercules 3 to 1. I think that's the point...from the film, a shieldwall was a totally novel tactic. If we accept that, within the film's timeline, a shieldwall was indeed something new, then yeah it is plausible that the cavalry would have tried a frontal charge.
PLUS, alot of time Cavalry were to try and spook the opposing army, not neccessarily fight.
PLUS, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Stirling_Bridge shows at least one instance of cavalry charging spears!
generally having cavalry charge into a shieldwall is a genuine tactic. 1 rider breaks up like 4 to 6 spearmen and if you have the footmen directly behind them you can create a gap ina shieldwall very easily.

@SheepieWorks I'm sorry but that is utterly and total bullshit. Only way for a cav to successfully charge and break up a shield wall is the way Alexander did it: close in wedge formation. Properly supported by light infantry to exploit the gap immediately. What we see on the screen is not even remotely close to that.

It is kind of possible, the horse was going full speed, about 25-30 mph, so i went with 32 since it was going downhill. A horse that size weighs about 1,200 pounds. So the horse already had lots of inertia, i did the math, and the horses weight was reduced to an astounding 321 pounds. Plus the weight of the rider and his armor was about 221 pounds. So the grand total is 542 pounds, which that man, HERCULES, could easily lift with his build.
It was a sad day in History... so many people died... there was a first page headline in the daily olympus about it as well.. :(

This battle was an absolute joke. The attackers looked as if they had no idea what to do.
Ngl, they should've prepared ahead. Instead of putting the archers behind the cavalry lines, they should've made camp beforehand on the side of the mountains.
I find it strange how weaker characters in movies are often given Bows despite them requiring much more strength than something as simple as a spear
