- Review of the Honda CB1000R which was very kindly lent to me by the guys at Honda in Maidstone www.maidstoneh...
What an absolute pleasure it was to take the Honda CB1000R out for a ride. The CB1000R is an absolute beauty of a bike! Power, handling and comfort all truly excel on the CB1000R,
Firstly lets talk about the power, 143 BHP with 104NM of torque mean the CB1000R can certainly shift when you want it to. However the bike is also comfortable cruising around town at more sedate speeds. It’s not pushing you to go faster, the power is just there in the background when you need it.
The handling of the CB1000R is solid. It’s a bike that feels planted on the road, is easy to ride and instantly inspires confidence.
With it’s upright seating position the CB1000R is a bike you could spend a long time on without developing aches and pains. A whole day on the bike would feel good, rather than turning into some endurance mission.
Styling is very subjective to each individual and while I think the bike looks good it’s not my favourite looking, however saying that the CB1000R is personally my overall winner and a bike I would most certainly have in my collection.
If you’ve not ridden it I recommend getting one out for a test ride :D

Honda knows how to make a bike that is well rounded. Comfortable, easy to live with, looks cool with a plenty fast to have some fun on a twisty road. I have the CB650R and I love it.
Owned a few bikes and this CB1000R is my favorite now, comfortable and an absolute fun machine to ride. Honda really delivered something special.
Agree. These are great. Soft, smooth, great riding position, lots of fun and with the Akrapovic slip-on it makes you smile every time you open it up.
@@antoniofagundez5075 Well now you guys are making me impatient for my new bike... Haha I'll have to get a die-cast model in the mean time.
Yes it is so an entertaining bike... until 7.000 rpm it is like balou the bear, a fine, nice, nearly perfect partner. You think "what an instantly controllable, fast cruiser !". Above, it shows muscles and teeth. EVERY time You are surprised by that and you have not the right sitting position for the things that are gonna happen now. All times i tried higher revs i thought "f**k, what a beast, i am actually not prepared for that!" I will have to learn this, and that's the time-point you start to love a bike.
Man, Ive watched this review too many times.
Your hysterical laughter of joy convinced me to purchase the CB1000R + with full Akro system, and man I just cant get enough of it.
Good review, event though its been a while since it was uploaded
@edelinpetrov1479 great bike, yeah a while ago now
Hi, owned my CB1000R+ since June 19th 2018....done 8000 miles on it now...Love it...I live in North Wales so get to use it properly....This is my very first bike and passed my test in April 2018 to get it...I believe I was one of the first to get it in the country engine number is less than a thousand...You have done the bike justice...Good commentary and video....Regards Andrew
Nice! Wonderful bike you wont get bored of anytime soon. I've actually got a mate who also got this as his first bike around the same time! He might not have got the plus though, cant remember. Thanks for comment and safe riding
@@TommyBarnezTV Hi Tommy, I found it hard to wait for the plus model.....it was nearly a month after the release of the basic..I'm glad I waited....I've changed to Michelin Road 5 after picking up a puncture on the factory fitted Dunlop's......The Road 5 are a lot better all round.....I've not done any other mods....I just ride it and have a big grin on my face as I do....All the best Andrew
got the plus version as my first bike in june 2019, done 4k miles this year, i love that thing
Getting my used 2023 model with only 1800 miles in gorgeous maroon (Bordeaux red) next week. Got my SC-project slip on ordered and can’t feckin wait!
That's Honda's heritage for you, this machine has been refined over the decades.
Hi have bought the cb1000r in march this year and then had the plus kit fitted just a couple of weeks ago and i think the quick shifter transformed a quick bike into a very quick bike, it works so well, the quality of the fit and finish is fantastic, loving it...
Solid Build throughout HONDA = VALUE
Yeah great bikes
I love your enthusiasm and laughter you sound like your having a great time on the Honda🏍🏍👍. It’s what I want but have to wait till next year as paying off debt then saving as much as I can. Really enjoyed your video I was laughing with you , I can’t wait
Ah thanks! Yeah it's a great bike! There are probably some decent prices on the second hand market now worth looking at when you're ready :)
2024 black edition is the nicest bike on market
It's awesome to see such good quality videos from a smaller TH-camr! Thanks for the awesome ride along and review!
Thanks!
2019 owner in Red.... fun machine, love the looks, fit and finish......inline 4 goes beast mode up in the rev zone and can surprise you with a wheel lift.
Standard Mode is what I use for most riding, the fly by wire throttle works the best in that mode, it gets twitchy in Sport Mode.
Brakes are solid, handles nice, and I added a Yoshimura Alpha can to the pipe which to me sounds better than the Akie.
MC rider since 1976... current bikes 2019 Honda CB1000R Yoshimura Alpha ( Wild Bitch)
2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 Yoshimura Alpha (Loudest)
2015 Honda VFR800DLX Interceptor SC Project Conic (V4 is the best sounding and is the tour bike)

I have owned one of these for a year now. I also own 2 fireblades. But this is my go to ride. It does everything. And is the easiest bike to ride I have ever ridden. The downsides however are it gives serious windblast at anything over 55mph. The fuel economy isnt great. I average roughly 90 miles a tank. The controls send the screen dizzy if you use them in the rain. The indicator and the horn are the wrong way round And the pillion seat sometimes gets a bit fussy when trying to get it back on after taking it off. But when all said I love this bike no end..
I been playing around with getting 1 of 3, the Gsxs1000 , katan1000 but I think I'm going to go with thecb1000plus, like the features it has with user mode which the gsxs don't have plus loved the review you made me laugh with your excitement on it at speed lol
Screw the 650 I think I might go straight for that!
I want the scenery to move like that when I pull back the accelerator!
I had the 2019 CB650R sold it and bought the CB1000R. No comparison well worth the extra cost, wish I had gotten the CB1000R in the first instance.
Though on this as first bike?
@@iamkabik23 so long as you never lose respect for your machine then yes!
Would I recommend it for a first bike I would probably say no, just for the simple fact if something bad was to happen it would make me part responsible for saying yes.
Go for the 650 which is very forgiving and has more than enough power to put a smile on your face😎
Cb650r 0 to 60 3.4 seconds, which is faster than most supercars and onto a top speed of a round 140.
And let's be honest if he were to do that speed we would probably lose our licence anyway lol! Ridesafe🙏
@@0j6j0 650 is my first choice for sure but where I live we have like five 650 in a whole state and 1000 is selling slightly used for 500usd more than 650.
@@iamkabik23 I suppose it's all down to personal preference!
Without that caustic license plate holder on the swingarm, the CB1000R looks really good.
Yeah that would be changed quickly!
I have the 2021 Black Edition. It is a weapon 🚀🔥 Love it. Great daily driver but get it in the mtns it is a carving weapon. Money well spent.
I've put 10,000 km on my black edition so far and I agree it is a fantastic all arounder. I just put an ohlins rear shock and can't wait to see the difference on the backroads now.
Great review, there is just something about this bike, civilised and can handle the power but... THE POWER!!! Ooooooh the power!!! 😊😎👍👊
Hell yeah!
Another great review.
I like the tail tidy much better than the hideous standard affair.
I hate those number plate holders like the one on the mt09.
Thanks! Glad your enjoyed! Yeah I like the tail tidy on this, though personally would have a slightly smaller plate...
Terrific review. Love the dual carriageway bit….woo hooooooo!
Haha yeah I still remember that moment 😅
Good review. I recently picked up a red 2019 . I'm hoping to get the call that my heated grips/evotech gear is installed for the weekend.
Nice, they look good in the red, actually saw one riding with a bit on the way home
Dream bike.

Beautiful Beautiful bike!
I’ve owned this bike for a few weeks now and I haven’t had as much fun, since my two stroke days back in the late 70’s.
If anyone is thinking of getting one, I would recommend the + version.
PS: And it was deffo the coolant temp gauge 😂
Haha cheers for the correction on the temp 😂 yeah was the plus I rode but I said x a few times, great bike!
Another good review. Nice bike for sure but the price of it! I suppose it has the quickershifter, modes, TFT screen but wow I wasn't expecting it to be that sort of money, maybe a grand less.
I'd be interested to see you do a vid on the latest Z1000 for comparison to the latest other big nakeds released (the better spec R Edition is probably nearer on spec and price).
Oh and thanks for recording in higher resolutions!
Thanks! 4k all the way 😁
Yeah I'll see if I can get a ride sorted on the z1000, enjoyed the sx version when I took that out.
Rob if you search you can get them cheaper, seen this version new at hunts in manchester for just over 11k new with zero % finance.
Love your excitement Tom! Boys and their toys eh!! Looks a great fun bike though that’s for sure 👍🏼
Thanks! Its awesome! Want one 😂
The temperature reading on the bike is coolant temp. Not air temp.
Looks like the display is faulty, after around 60mph it goes blank, better get that changed. :D
Temp reading is not inaccurate, you need to read up a bit on coolant operating temp range (and pressure in the system and how it relates to boiling temp).
86 Celsius is the is the engine temp!
Really great vid thanks cherrs
Beautiful looking bike. Hope to get one for a daily soon
Beautiful bike, but wish it was a 1200cc with more grunt, also a bigger clearer lcd would be nice, should also have a outdoor temp readout as should all bikes in my opinion, is there a cruse control on this bike ?
Great review.
Off the top of my head it doesn't have cruise control. In terms of power though I think it's perfect for road riding
Hey Tommy, love your vids , love how giddy you get when you open a bike up
Have you tried a 21 plate Gsxs1000 I would like to know how it compares to the Cb1000r and Z1000sx.
Keep up the good work matey
Not yet I'm afraid, I've had to take a bit of a step back with vids due to work commitments :( trying to get back into them
I'll wait another year I guess for the 2020 fireblade..... Maybe they will do some upgrades to this bike too.
I mean it will be 2 years by thn.
waiting on the same thing
Great review 👍 Still not sure about the look of that rear chain sprocket cover
Thanks!
Cool video bro, I motovlog too! Loving the content, keep it up!
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed :)
i bet you tested the grip-heating...
involuntarily, didn't you? That happens easily just like testing the horn as well. But i love the machine, owner since last year. Your emotions on accelerating, Yeah, that' the way it really feels. So fine to watch in winter-times.Thank You!
Haha I think I did actually but didn't have in video
99c is engine temp. Mirror isn't any good, only one third is actually usable. The bike is definitely fun, lot of power, throughout.
It has potential to punch your face even at 100kmph.
The CB1000R does sound good with the upgraded exhaust
Acceleration???
Great review, I am Interested in your opinion between the Honda CB1000R and the Kwaka Ninja 1000SX as far as handling is concerned as you have recently tested both and they are on my short list
Good question. My ride of the cb1000r was a bit of a while back so a little difficult to compare as accurately as I'd want, however with that disclaimer I would say the cb1000r is a better handling bike. I'm gonna try and get another ride on one this year. I think the ninja 1000sx wins on looks and useability.
very nice bike.
How is the seat ? It looks mighty uncomfartable. Yet I want the bike so bad.
That same bumblebee attacked me. Don’t know what his problem is.
Any chance of you getting out and trying the Indian FT1200? I like your reactions and responses to the bike. Brilliant 😊 I am seriously interested in this Honda bike but also the Indian.
Thanks! I would love to try out some Indians but that's probably a little way off, guessing 2020. The honda is awesome though, out of the nakeds it's probably my favourite in terms of usuable power. Some of the others I find just a little too mental for uk roads and my restraint 😂 took a super duke 1290r out recently which was bonkers.
Take out the honda and the Indian back to back. Best way to test in my opinion. You'll know instantly from a 1 hour test which you prefer
The temperature on the dash was the coolant temp
Yeah I say stupid stuff a lot on vids 😂
Great review I ride a 05 speed triple which I love but things move on and this bike ticks all the boxes 👍
I havent ridden the speed triple yet, high on my list of bikes I wanna try
I've got a cb1000r plus .. what country is this review if it is the cb1000 x as you say .
Special addition for when I'm looking at my scribbled notes doing the walkaround and I missread a + as an x
@@TommyBarnezTV I've not rode mine yet
I guess the 99 degrees Celsius is the coolant temperature
Ah maybe..
Elie Nehme hi, yes it’s the engine temperature 👍
Yes it's the engine temp!
@@TommyBarnezTV why would you need outside temp on a bike ? ahahahaha
@@danielrruben92 guess you only ride in the summer
Nice, but I think a belly pan would look great on it. Even though it’s a kind off a naked style bike. 😎👍 the 2021 cb1000r black edition is sick 🖤
Havent seen it yet, will hopefully get a look at it next year!
We havin’ fun yet? Love it !!!
Haha lots of fun
Love the enthusiasm !! Thnx

Temperature reading is the engine temp 😀
Yeah im an idiot sometimes 😂
Have you ridden the gsxs 1000 that’s ment to be amazing bike for the money I ride a Fireblade but thinking of getting gsxs 1000 or cb1000r 👍
Nice review. One question: are there annoying vibrations on the bar at 5500 rpm (130 km/h)?
Nope :)
what would you choose , Triumph Speed Triple RS or Honda CB1000R ?
I havent ridden the speed triple rs yet however im going to guess that would probably be my choice. The honda is a great bike but I have loved every triumph I've been on so pretty sure I will love the speed triple when I have a go. As always, ride them both and see which works for you
@@TommyBarnezTV I did recently ride them both . Honda was nice and smooth, almost too smooth. I found the steering a little bit light and "floaty" on the Honda. I'm not keen on the back lit LCD dash (hard to see). Quick shifter was good. The Honda is a very pretty and well made bike. Gearing was a little bit long.
Speed Triple had a fair bit more low down grunt, engine not as smooth as the Honda, but I kind of like the triple growl. Dash on Speed Triple was easy to see. I thought the triple handled better, not "floaty" on the front end like the Honda seemed.
High up arrow cans on the speed triple RS sounded awesome.
Triple RS has things like cruise control and self cancelling indicators (I could do with those) that the I don't believe the Honda has.
Honda is possibly a little bit prettier than the Triumph , but it's about 99% certain I'll pick the Triumph !
@@TommyBarnezTV You should give a Speed Triple RS a spin, they are very good.
@@karlosh9286 yeah the speed triple and street triple have a bit of a funny look I think. New Street triple this year looks better with more aggressive looking lights. Maybe the speed triple will get a cosmetic upgrade. Will give the speed triple a ride soon
@@TommyBarnezTV I do think the Honda looks a bit better ( apart from the number plate bit)
CB1000 and Speed Triple on paper have similar performance, I found the Speed Triple even more bonkers ballastic. I'm not sure if that's a good thing !
A section bike reviews could do with is "Are you likely to lose your licence , or worse, on this bike ?".
Both the CB and Triple I think have that as "yes" !!!!
Pretty sure they call it the plus + model not X ?
Stephen’sTH-cam correct
"I apologize, II'll try to stay calm next time" WWWRRRRUUUUUUUMMMM "AAAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAAAAAA"
🤣 I genuinely tried!
I own a 2018 CB1000R with the same slip-on and it sounds so much better in person. Not sure what it is with the vids, but they just dont do this exhaust justice.
Currently having an issue with getting Denali air horn to work properly though on mine, sad.
I'm always looking to improve the vids and hopefully will have some better mics in the future 😎
I want the same slip on, do you think it's worth it to get the full exhaust with that? Or is it loud enough?
@@Ron1n773 It is definitely loud enough as a slip-on part on its own. Full system will need a ecu remap also.
@@Ron1n773 full exhaust is more of a performance mod. If all you want is a better sound save some money and just get a slip on.
Hey bro if you can test drive the tuono or the Super Duke that would be awesome
Super duke is on the list! Will probably be the next bike I ride but have 3 others to upload before then. Have a bit of a back log with editing 😂
I dont have access to a Tuono though so I dont think I'll be able to get one of those up soon.
I would imagine the 99 degrees C is the engine temp
Yeah maybe
Definitely engine temp)
what are your thoughts / comparison between CB1000R a MT10 a s1000R ?
Havent ridden the s1000r unfortunately so difficult to comment on that. Between the CB1000R and mt10 they are both awesome bikes and worth test riding to see which one you prefer. I personally preferred the CB1000R as it is ever so slightly more sensible. The mt10 is a bit nuts and I think I would end up losing my license if I had one 😂
@@TommyBarnezTV I have had my CB1000R now for 1 week and have been able to use it on all types of roads in both rain and standard modes. Travelling at 70 mph (approx. 4,600 revs)on the motorway was comfortable and the ride was compliant suggesting light/ medium touring would be good to do, standard mode offered greater responsiveness than rain with delivery in both smooth and rewarding accompanied by a nice exhaust note (standard can). Obviously I am still running the engine in so do not know yet what the added value will be once revs go above 5,500 when the engine/ exhaust note and engine power changes but this is to come. You are right in stating that this bike is a gem. Interesting note is that mpg is continuing to increase and my bike is now registering 41mpg and is going up.
@@carllewis1691 did you now try the higher rev's? I think @ 16:00 .. of the video you can see what's happening after 5.000 /min. :-)
1100 Japanese bikes are like that - solid, well behaved citizens followed by a few moments of total insanity where their built to live..
LOL love your reaction!
I don’t have much experience but I’m confortable riding a Bike... would you recomand it to a beginner with all the different riding mode that it has?
Thanks! I actually know someone who got one of these as his first bike. I think it comes down to how someone approaches riding. If you get one I would say do some advanced training and watch twist of the wrist a few times, then get out on it a lot 😁
TommyBarnezTV ya twist of the wrist, best usefull video I found. Thanks
This is my first bike, it's no trouble at all. Easy power deliver means you can build up your confidence easily.
41 Rides ha good for you. Such a beautyfull bike. I finally got a 2019 GSX-S with massive discount:). Great sound, easy to drive... love it .
Are the footpegs lower than a 1000rr?
You really need to test gsxs 1000 2018 ish against the cb1000r from all the research I have done and ridden these 2 are king of the uprights the cb1000r has 2007 Fireblade engine and gsxs 1000 has the legendary K5 gsxr 1000 engine 👍👍👍❤️
Curious what your opinion of this bike was vs the new Katana you rode recently? Cheers from San Diego!!
I think the Katana looks better (however I might be one of the few that does), also the katana has a smaller fuel tank which could be problematic. Ride wise I thought they were both pretty similar. If I was going to buy one I would probably test ride them both back to back. The CB1000R is the more logical choice I would think, however the Katana has this 80s magic that I was drawn to. Tough choice :)

what's the average mpg because I'm really lost for what to upgrade my bike to I currently have a mt07 looking at the mt09sp or mt10 or this
I preferred the mt07 over the mt09 for some reason, just thought the ride was better. I'm sure I've read people getting better mpg on the cb1000r over the mt10 but it's going to be so varied with riding styles and neither has been built with the mpg in mind.
@@TommyBarnezTV yeah built for all out fun

I would say no but the seat tail unit/ rear cowl is relatively high so swinging your leg over is the most awkward bit. Once on it’s all good. IMHO. I’m a 31” inside leg.
you should have told the pedal cyclist at 19:34 it's easier on something with the power of 430 pairs of legs pedalling ;) ( assuming 250 watts for a pedal cyclist, okay pro's are more like 400 watts average )

but the rr is a race bike good luck with every day riding your back will be in pieces
You think, Aprilla can't touch Honda any day sorry.
I honestly don't know why people even consider the tuono as a comparable bike to the cb1000r/mt10/SPEEDRS/etc... It's clearly race oriented with little thought for comfort or daily rideability like the others. Compare it to the super Duke maybe but it's honestly in its own class.
Those ridiculously large numbers plates in the UK really spoil the look of the bike 🙄

What good is a great bike WHEN THE FRONT END DIVES !!! shame on Honda. Just rode it and loved all of it except the neanderthal front end, this bike is trying to kill you 100% of the time with it, if you forget about the massive pull on the handle bar after you turn it a few degrees you will crash into something or just as bad go over your handle bars, this bike will kill some people, front end falls off the table. And also tell us viewers why you didn't even mention this problem in your review which I consider a huge miss on your part and largely irresponsible. How is Honda going to fix the problem if you hide it for them?
