- I take out the 2019 Honda CB1000R Plus model for a test ride!
EDIT: I know it has a blipper now, after the fact but there we go! Honda don't call it a blipper, they just call it the Quickshifter System which is slightly confusing as traditionally, Quickshifters are only for upshifts and Auto Blippers are for down. Honda just being different I guess!

With driving license still wet I went for CB650R, but I am 190cm and those things are tiny af. (And 650s were sold-out till like August anyways.) So I ended up getting 2018 CB1000R+ as my very first bike, and I absolutely love her! It has been two months and I'm not dead yet, haven't even had a close call, haven't dropped her. (It was close tho when "walking" her the very first day in the parking lot.)
I guess her not being snappy and me keeping her in the User mode with Power at 2/3 helps.

Due to license restrictions I could only get the cb650r as an upgrade from my cb400sf, I love it. I'm 188cm/6.1, so just a bit snug. Does the cb1000r sit much higher and feel better? It's pretty much next on my list. Please tell me everything 🙏
how's the vibration on CB1000r compared to 650r? Main reason I get rid of my 650 is the vibration issue above 6k RPM, second is the rusty parts.

Loving my new CB1000, just the rear shock is a bit soft when the going gets bumpy but that’s all I can complain about but on smoother roads it’s superb and I’m still running mine in so looking forward to giving it full beans soon! Cheers, G-man
Really?! It only says quickshifter on the specs which tradionally is only for upshifting. Nice that it also has a blipper too, I did think that was odd! Now I'll have to ride it again as I really wanted to use a blipper! Good fun bike nonetheless! Cheers!
The plus version has up/down quickshifter. So it has autoblipper.

I tried this one before the CB650 and I went for the smaller. In DK, where I live, the 1000 is twice the price. And it's not twice as good. So the 650 for me. And you're to blame Dan! Your films....and the fact that it looks great and handles sooo gooood! Love the 650!

Unique motorcycle! Honda has created a very beautiful machine, among other things, qualities.
Cb1000r+ also has heated grips and the quickshifter has autoblip
Auto blip? Really? Sorry is QS honda or aftermarket? Does it work only on upshift?

Cool video mate 😎 I have a 2019 in Candy red; bought it brand new from a dealer in Ohio at a sale price of $10,600 out the door 😀 Down from MSRP of $13,000. I love this bike cause it is manufactured in Japan and we all know anything manufactured in Japan, UK & Germany has a signature touch, high quality & Divine 😇😁 i baby it with quality condiments: Castrol Actevo 10w30 for first 3 oil changes and then I will be using Motul 7100 4T 10w40 with K&N 204 filters. I already flushed the original coolant and replaced it with the blue Engine ice coolant. I use everything Motul for chain cleaning & lube. I top off with octane 90 Ethanol Free Fuel and add StrarTron enzyme fuel additive
Watching this whole review I was thinking ffs change gear running around in second and third gear at 70 mph ??? Thate why I would never buy a demo bike, oh and by the way the quick shifter works down the box
Where's the fun in that!? I ride my bike the same way on a weekend blast. Not blown one up yet.....
Just got one back in June. I absolutely love it. The one problem I had was the mirrors but I replaced them with bar end mirrors. I'd say to stick to the standard riding mode for the break in period, then try all the other two and change the user mode to your preference.
Mine came with the passenger seat instead of that hard case on the back. I might look into buying that one aftermarket though.
From one who’s an auto enthusiast, this would qualify as a Muscle car or a Grand Tourer.
That’s and odd thought really. Ide akin this bike to any retro styled sport/muscle car. Maybe like how the modern comaro and challenger try to emulate the styling of there classic versions. But underneath are all modern race car. That’s what this bike is, a modern sport bike made to resemble the classic Honda CB’s

I do like the idea of a bigger bike again but i know how it will end.. either in a ditch or without a licence.... its safer just to watch others ride... great job again hope you get it for a longer blast.

I had the cb650r but swapped it for this 2 weeks ago the 650 is all the power you need but the better brakes much more torque on the 1000 make it much more comfortable and enjoyable to ride the quick shifter is miles better then the 650 and works up and down unlike the 650 which only works up it has a a auto blip per as well

I've got a 21 plate GSXS 1000, and I've also got a 22 plate CB1000R that I've had for a week. To me honda has spent time and money on build quality, brakes....which are excellent, the screen...again excellent and the forks, the exhaust is obviously shite. After a week the biggest letdown is the retuned blade engine, its so weak when you need it. Above 70 its blah. Compare that to MY GSXS 1000 and they're different animals. The Suzuki has the GSXR 1000 engine, frame and Swingarm, all aluminium, and is the animal of the two in my opinion Dan. This is slightly provocative but the honda doesn't have the chemistry to make me love it. I'd prefer to look at it than ride it....I'm an engineer not an artist, its aluminum is great. But give me my Suzuki anyday, To create character through engineering is true artistry, and that creates chemistry, which that gixxer engine does in spades and the honda struggles with. Its a shame because I wanted to like it.

Agreed. It's why I ended up with the CB650R. Great power, but unlikely to kill myself riding it. With this much power, I'd be too tempted to be stupid.
hooeetube I agree. I was tempted to get a CB650R. It looks quick enough for me. It looks a bit more "premium" as compared to the SV650, ER6n and MT-07, and has 4 cylinders.
I ended up with a Speed Twin, coz I'm a sucker for classic looks, and Triumph let me have a test ride.
Has a similar peak power to a CB650R, and it's quicker than I need. Maybe I should have got a Royal Enfield Interceptor !
If the Honda dealers had let me have a test ride (licence for less than a year), I might have got one.
Had a CB125R as my learner, and that was pretty good, apart from being underpowered like all 125s !
I might (if I can afford it) get a CB650R as a second bike, I like my Speed Twin, I also quite enjoyed the smoothness of a 4 cylinder on the 10 year old Honda CB600F training school bike I rode.
@@karlosh9286 I just got off a much different style of riding, on a 2017 Harley-Davidson FXDB. Night and day. 1030 fewer cubic centimeters, and yet still much more acceleration, agility, and ride quality. I'll never go back to "old iron". Glad you are happy with the Speed Twin. I like all of Triumph's little touches that aren't necessarily functional, but add to the nostalgic appearance (e.g. unneeded heat sinks around the exhaust ports). Just a classy looking machine.

I quite like the Honda CB1100 for the retro look, but it was a bit heavy to push around. 200Kg is about my limit.
Yes I do like the nostalgic look, but if I do get a second bike, I would like something more modern looking.

How do you like the sitting position compared to your cb650r ?
A little more upright to me and the seat is definitely softer.
I had the cb 650 for 5 months 3500 miles this is way more comfortable more upright better seat a lot smother done over 1000 miles in 2 weeks swapped my 650 against a 10 month old one with 127 miles on it! Was up for £9495 more then £3000 off new price I didn’t think you needed any more bike then the 650 but after riding this there’s no going back
Its funny that a "NOT entry" bike like honda cb1000R gets gear indicator and "Entry" bike like cb300R doesnt.. like if you are riding cb1000R you better fucking know to ride by now

So what’s bottom line? Buy one with your own money. Any more fun than your 650? If so...worth the difference in price. Either more fun and or comfy than MT-09? I am looking, btw. Can’t get demos on any of them.
Someone totalled the only demo CB1000R a shop nearby had, just as i was returning the demo CB650R. So i rented the liter elsewhere, and then bought mine the very next week from the same rental/showroom.
Point being, have you considered renting one?

Is this worth the extra 5k over the 650r? The cb1000r, cb 650r and the xsr 900 are on the shortlist for my next bike.
I think that's entirely subjective and only you can answer that. I'd just say test ride as much as you can. 👍
I bought one recently. And I say it is absolutely worth it. I think it's better to have that extra power for when you do need/want it.
I picked up a 2015 CB1000R (new in the crate, unsold in the US) the spring of 2019. I couldn't pass it up @ $6800 (almost 1/2 of when new in 2015). I've never had so much fun (and I've owned quite a few bikes). I only miss a slipper clutch (it gets a bit chatty downshifting when I come in hot). But - as anything, the newer CB1000R has certainly peaked my interest. I'm thinking I'll wait a bit...I only have 1500 miles on the 2015! Thanks for the video!

How does the power compare to the 650r when in rain mode (or user mode with power dialed all the way down)? Not comfortable buying a liter naked bike just yet, but like the styling and features of this more than the 650
Even in rain mode the additional torque is quite obvious. It's not an intimidating bike though.
it's really user friendly and docile, there's nothing to worry about power-wise. yes, obviously, it will go like hell if you let it, but at no point does it try to scare you. rain mode actually feels a bit flat, user mode dialled down would be the same (it's just setting 1 of 3), i have mine on 2 of 3 pretty much all the time. Sport mode - in my opinion - is a bit too keen for town use, bumps can give you a throttle change that you didn't want, making it difficult to keep smooth. If you keep 2 fingers resting over the brake lever, it's difficult to give it too much. As EBD said, it's torquey, so you find yourself simply not revving it so much that it would actually ever really do anything untoward. It's easy to ride well, and you never think about anything.

I have the 650, and I think it's the same engine (but smaller ofc) so I think I can give a few insights myself.
On the lower end, it's definitely tame. Not saying it doesn't have power, but what I'm driving at, is that it's comfortable for city traffic.
But once you do reach the power band (around 8k+), you definitely feel the bike dumping that power in your face (in a good way I guess).
It's the engine you choose if you want to use it everyday. It's not tiresome to ride since it's quite comfortable to sit on + the engine is smooth, though if you give it a little more twist, you'd appreciate the power it gives when you want it (at higher rpms).
My main gripe is that it's not really a looker, though the in-line 4 looks gorgeous. It could use a touch up on some other parts.
However, the biggest main selling point for me is that it's made by Honda. Statistically the most reliable motorcycle brand out there. And for what it's worth owning the bike, I haven't had any problems with the bike, nor do I expect any problems anytime soon.

This bike is so sweet. I test rode the old model many years ago and loved it. Don't be afraid to spool it up in 1st and 2nd it loves it! This thing wants you to snap through the gears and the gearbox is extremely capable. I owned the street triple at the time I test rode it and although the triple held it's own the refined precision of the honda and the electric top end grunt I always wanted it as my next bike.

Indeed it does but Honda only refer to it as a Quickshifter which is traditionally only for upshifts. For example, if I get a quickshifer on my CB650R it's only for upshifting. For some reason Honda likes to call things by differernt names which is a tad confusing when just looking at a spec sheet but we live and learn! Just means I'll have to ride it again to see what it's like. No bad thing! :D

Saw this bike in person the engine paint looks a bit tacky and I wonder how it will hold up over the years

I just got my CB1000R and have been riding in rain mode for now because it has been raining , great is the word that describes the pick up around town where I have been mainly using it and in part on main roads. Pick up is very satisfying being able to leave traffic without any fuss or drama. It is very well balanced at low speeds providing confidence in U-turns and filtering. The steering is direct giving very good feedback which inspires you to change direction with ease. The exhaust note is a low satisfying hum accompanied with burbles and pops when you release the throttle and change gear, A great bike that looks, sounds and runs, and will keep you thinking you are lucky to be able to ride it.
My father rides this in black, and I have the CB650R in red (yes, we look extremely dorky together). I must say I prefer my 650 when it comes to riding position (less cramping up from wrapping my legs around the engine!), but other than that... The way you don't have to work the gearing with the 1000 is just amazing. It just pulls!
...still love my 650, though! And the comparatively free insurance rate. ;-)
I had a CB650R, I'm 6.1, how does the cb1000r feel in comparison?
@@nabahmadi5012 Then you'll probably mostly notice how much wider it is. I definitely cramped up easier on the 1000, though that disappeared after a few times as my body got used to the position. Height wise it shouldn't be an issue at all, and you might enjoy the position more. I'm 1.83 m, which I think is about 6 ft

does anyone know where the click sound comes from at 5:22? i noticed it on my bike. only in first gear just before I let go of the clutch lever I hear this klick or klack sound. is it normal?

Some thing to look at. The CB1000 only weighs 15 lbs more than the CB 650 and has 40+ more HP!

Does the 1000 feel bigger or similar to the c650f? I test rode a 650 yesterday and it was so uncomfortably small
Yeah the 1000 feels substantially larger, to me anyway!
Std pipe sounds and looks better on S1000r, it pops when using QS. The electronic suspension also works well, with more electronics including cruise control and heated grips. I was intetested in the meter screen to see if it sheltered the screen from sun reflection but its not big enough..
With my cb650r I bought the Zeed headlight cowl, helped keep the screen clean and cut down glare aittle bit.

Did you notice any vibration thru the bars and pegs?
To be honest I can't remember which is usually a good sign.
none through bars, tiny amount of mirror shake on cold starts. pegs don't have any that you notice, unless you get the revs exactly right then there's a little buzz but it's hardly anything
None that I could notice but then I only had it for about 2 hours.
I prefer 650 R. I get to use almost all of its power. A liter bike is too much for my needs

Just got back from an oil change at 6,000 km. Honda dealer only carries 10 W 30. I wanna try 10 W 40 so went to an aftermarket mod shop for it, Motul 10 W 40 7100. Felt some difference in gear shift and acceleration

I studied this bike for a year and just had to have one. Found a leftover 2018 in black - which is what I wanted anyway. Still too much silver on it for my taste, so I blacked it all out - a real head turner. No, it's not the baddest bike on the block, but it's certainly the best looking. Besides, in normal use, who needs more than 145 HP? I traded in a VFR1200F for this bike and I'm happy as hell with it. It'll keep up with the VFR up to 80 MPH, and believe me, 467 pounds is a lot more fun than 600 pounds. Smoothest engine in the world, and, yes, the muffler sounds just fine. Plenty of torque in any gear - even in 6th at 25 MPH it's got smooth strong acceleration. I've never ever been burned by a Honda, from my Super-90's in the '60's, my first true love CB750 in 1970, a CL450, V45 750, V65 Sabre, V65 Magna, VFR1200F, and now this beauty. I love this bike. Call it Naked, call it NeoSports Café, call it whatever you want - it's a great bike.

Hi Dan I swapped by cb650;r for one of these 2 weeks ago it’s just a different level on every count absolutely loving it averaging about 54 mpg uk in standard mode did they change the mirrors they same further out then mine. Which is the one gripe compared to the 650 you can’t see directly what’s behind you I find it’s got that much power you only need to be in 5 or 6 to overtake everything no need to ride around in the low gears see if you can borrow it for a week you won’t want to back to the 650 Keep up the good work
Cheers for the insight David, I did enjoy my time on it. I like the look but just think they nailed the looks of the 650 a bit more but that's a very personal taste thing. Can't deny the performance though, brute of a bike that pretends to be civilised! Love it.
Are you really getting 54 mpg out of your 1000? I'm getting 53 mpg avg out of my MT-07!!
eagle52 yes over 1200 miles I’ve got a low of 52 and best of 59 average worked out properly brim to brim with a fuel app is 55.38 uk MPG

eagle52 it really is a fantastic bike I only returned to biking after 28 years in march with the 650 which was great for getting your confidence back again I only intended going for a test ride on the 1000 to see the difference to 650 and the difference is night and day so just switched the finance as soon as I got back from the test ride best thing is go for a test ride to see if you like it

I looked at the standard CB1000r, Z900rs cafe and an MT10. The CB is the prettier bike but the MT is more of everything for no more money. They are all good bikes in their own way.
The CB1000R is a gentleman but one who's also proficient and disciplined in Kung-Fu. The MT10 is a hooligan that'll take you for a few beers then once you're passed out nick your wallet.
Once I saw the Neo Café looks I couldn't get over the tacky looks of MTs (and pretty much everything in that class tbh)
