    Scotty, the Chrysler engineering team put those oil grooves there for a good reason. That little stream of oil made for the LA series of engines to have a fantastic reliability record because of the proper attention paid to oiling all the rotating bits as well as the cylinder walls.
    The newer 5.7 'Hemi' as they call it, is positively eating cams and tappets in vehicles that idle allot because they aren't lubing the cam and tappets from above or below thanks to design changes from the venerable LA, which they replaced.
    Nothing like a big slice of humble pie for new engineers when it's delivered by engineers from the 50's and 60's!
    So, you are totally right that those galleries should be squirting. All these bearing manufacturers are not worth the fingernail clippings of those old engineers who created the machinery that helped win WWII.

    The reason why the rope seals leak it is because of the knurling on the crankshaft right behind the number five main cap is wore down to where the diagonal hash marks are barely visible. Those diagonal hash marks or knurling is what brings the oil back into the engine instead of leaking out. When it's flat and shiny there's no way the rope seal can do its job.

  • @stephenwest798
    @stephenwest798 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are correct to not have oil on the plastic gauge as it is oil soluble, but you should not have oil on the upper bearings either as oil takes up space, both bearing surfaces should be dry to get the correct reading. And when you blow your lower disk in your back by lifting improperly you will regret not using a shop crane as many will tell you that made that same mistake, I for one.

    Scotty that’s normal running a std hex bolt for oil pump clearence funny thing is ARP no matter how many people have complained about this issue still haven’t fixed this issue. Just wanted to point out while you haven’t fitted the sump lose that pump gasket don’t use one run a straight edge on the pump surface make sure it’s flat . One other thing unfortunately those rear main seals whether it’s Felpro , ect are a hit and miss really a shit seal neoprene and is too stiff and has no give and unfortunately due to the wings setup you are limited on what you can use . On my 360 you can get the later Model magnum seal which is a Vitron material and is a double lip and you clock the seal 3/16 off the block and cap , a touch a silicon on the ends and viola. No leaks. Scotty I have a new Hughes engines stud girdle 318-340 with all the hardware and I’m happy to contribute free of charge mate if you can use it in the mule . I’m in the western suburbs of Melbourne if you want to drive out and pick it up. Drop me a line if your interested. Cheers
