      That was one of the best lines. It made you imagine how much pain and sadness Arthur has felt throughout his entire life, and all of it went by unnoticed by the one person that had to take care of him. Hell, went by unnoticed by EVERYONE.

      @Long Nguyen He has a neurological disorder where he has excessive laughter when he feels emotional. So Arthur's only way of expressing emotion is by laughter so when he is sad and wants to cry, it is laughter that comes out. So all those times he was laughing as a boy, he was actually crying.

      Noticed that too. I'm guessing this is a Gotham from late 70's , early 80's era. So in general smoking was much more prominent and accepted then, of course in Gotham's universe anything goes. it supposed to be urban, dark, and dirty. the smoking fits right in and Phoenix did an outstanding job in making it look cool and blend in well as a part of what the joker does.

    That part was meant to show us how he longs for human contact. A bump in in the elevator with this woman and he starts imagining a relationship with her. Because she was one of the few people who didn’t treat him like trash he clings to her, hence him later in the movie showing up in her apartment telling her he had a bad day. Then obviously there we realise that his relationship with her was nothing more than a fantasy

      But there's also a general social commentary pointing out a cruel, but sadly very true reality which is that the elites do really live in their bubble and are completely unaware of the hellhole distress and violence that the lower classes go through every single day of their lives. Well, not unaware per se (they do read news and do see people around them when they are in town), but I mean unaware of what it actually is like and how it feels like to live in those conditions.

    • @BORN753
      @BORN753 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Woag It totally does. If you want to be loved, you gotta try to express your love for someone else. But also you don’t want to be loved by someone you don’t like, so you mustn’t push your love if the other person doesn’t want it. Same goes with any kind of relations. And if you don’t want to be abused, you just set a distance in relationships that is comfortable for you and defend yourself if needed, both physically and psychologically.
      If someone behaves like a total dick, you treat him like you would treat yourself and how you would like to be treated by others if you were behaving the same way.

      Cassandra Amore the movie isn’t as deep as you think and certainly doesn’t "reveal" anything about society, lmfao.
      Phoenix’s performance is impressive, but the script is incredibly shallow. I doesn’t really comment on society or really criticize anything it just repeats that "society is mad", and shows us that, but yeah, that’s hardly original.
      I also love that the horrible murder of three traders makes people in the movie side with the murderer for some reason and engage in an "anti-rich movement", like it’s just that simple.
      The movie isn’t dangerous though, how anybody could be influenced by such a shallow message is beyond me.

    The saddest part for me was the fact that Arthur was actively trying to get help. He was going to therapy and taking medications. He tried to tell his therapist that the medications weren't working and he was showing her that the type of therapy he was receiving (being locked up and simply talking to someone weekly) wasn't helping. Many times, we are shown that a character just gives up or a character doesn't believe that they are wrong or that they need help, but it isn't often we are shown one that tries to get better only to fail. "Keep trying and you'll succeed." No, sometimes, people try their best over and over, and they still fail and are ruined by the experience.

The laughing stopping is much more likely to show how he truly is free and, like The Joker we all know and love, isn’t what uncomfortable in high stress situations, instead he learns to love it.

    What I liked was that you still weren't sure at the end whether he was Wayne's son or not.
    After he discovers his mothers past and kills her there the scene with him holding an old photo of her and on the back is written "something, something, T.W" yeah i can't remember the exact words :) but it placed some doubt in my mind as to whether T.W did father a child with one of his maids and then just covered it up, the process of which broke Jokers mother mentally leaver her not sure what is real or not.

I haven’t seen a single review so far that gives it a low score with any justifiable reasoning other than it’s too violent and will cause white people to suddenly go out and murder everyone or some dumb shite like that.

    • @DDChorror
      @DDChorror 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@W3irdWombat I agree that the film wasn't amazing, and understand the low review scores, but I think you're ignoring something really important; The film is connecting with people on a meaningful level. People can see themselves in Arthur Fleck, because he represents or at least speaks to the small percentage of the population that feels disconnected from and abandoned by society at large. It isn't the first film to do it, but most films that speak to the weirdos of society do so in a pandering and condescending manner, in which the weirdo is seen as cute, endearing and simply misunderstood! For someone who genuinely can't connect with people, this can be eye-rolling at best and frustrating at worst. Joker doesn't do this, instead it portrays the feelings of resentment, anger and hopelessness that being a weirdo more commonly makes you feel. It's about a character who's shunned by society, made a spectacle of and treated as less than human, and responds with great vengeance. He is a monster, created by society, and the sick part is, he's only taken notice of and accepted, when he becomes a monster. Arthurs speech on the talk show comes across as cheesy or self pitying, only if you can't relate to his pain, and most of the film critics reviewing this film have never and may never feel like Arthur Fleck. Infact most people will go through their lives never experiencing what it's like to feel outside society, but for those who do, will relate to this film. And for me, that makes this at the very least an important film.

      @@W3irdWombat this movie is pretty vague about its message. You can't be sure whether its all going on in Arthur's mind and which events really took place. Because it's a freakin comic book movie with aliens. Joker talks about social issues that are part of everyday life. It's a movie that not only takes it up for the poor but everyone who's been looked down upon in any way and considered less valuable by our social standards. That's why this movie is dangerous. Because we all have these moments in life where we think violence is our only hope to make a change. And we should applaud these moments, not for the sake of violence, but for the sake of their honesty. When someone feels violence is the only answer left, we want to defend our truth. We want to defend our right. And those moments are the moments of holy fire that should guide us towards civilized change in society.
      Luckily most of us know violence isn't the answer so hopefully this movie inspires, like Chris said, reflection upon where we are part of The Joker and how we are part of its counterweight, how are we complicit as a society in creating Jokers? For America, as an example, I immediately think of all the high school shootings. For Europe, I think of terrorism just the same. What drives these people to become so amazingly violent? What can we do as a society to not let their lives and that of their victims to be forgotten in vain. How can we prevent other Jokers from popping up instead of just making sure that when another one drives by we're expecting and ready to pop his head off.
      This movie doesn't just open a wound, it pleasantly fingers it. Revolution is happening all around the globe in all kinds of manners, of course they don't want you to get inspired by a movie and do the same.

But in my opinion I don't see Joaquin Phoenix's Joker as a villain but as an antihero who stands up for the oppressed in society but in an evil way and to turn against a city that is so diverse where even the most 'good' guy is an ass who puts down the people he says he wants to help and that is Thomas Wayne.

That had a lot to say about ethics and morality, the values we place on things as a society, abuses of power fuelled by money, and what it means to be a productive member of society. Did people learn anything from it? If the financial crises that came twenty years later are any guide, the ones who needed the lessons weren't listening. Oh my god. I can’t believe I’m not the only person who thought that was CLEARLY the message. You guys rule. I think a lot of people who haven’t felt a real struggle with poverty, or isolation, etc, just can’t relate, see it as “overacting.”
      I’ve seen it a few times, and there were a few kids in one showing laughing at Arthur in the beginning, one kid actually said “what a freak” when he was having the laughing fit on the bus.
      I’m in my late thirties, this one is really special. On so many levels.

      And that's why the media hates it and comes with the "this will incentivize violence" Bullshit Narrative, on top of getting a Lot of views of course by doing that of course.

    The pre-release hysteria [for this film] I find horrificly stupid."
