This is the second ever cooking video on Sailing Magic Carpet! The first one was many years ago, and coincidentally, it pairs quite well with this one. If you're curious, you can watch it here and learn how to make really good, really fluffy bread without an oven!! th-cam.com/video/_Up9Tmcc0EY/w-d-xo.html
Maya. Years ago on BBC Radio 2 in the UK there was a DJ called Terry Wogan who was born in Ireland, unfortunately he passed away in 2016. He had a suggestion sent to him from a listener that left over wine should be frozen in an ice cube tray so that you could drop a cube into a broth or stew to give it some more taste. It was a good idea but his remark was “What left over wine?”!
I've read every comment regarding how delicious your soup looked and agree with every one of them, but every time you show the interior of Magic Carpet, I'm always blown away by just how pretty the inside of your boat is. Thank you so much for bringing all of us along on your Scandinavian Summer.
This is by far the best cooking video I have ever watched. Brilliantly filmed, and edited, the music, everything about it was award-winning. And the way you serve the soup, allowing for so much variation. And the prunes. I learned so many techniques from this one simple, yet wonderfully complex, video. It would be wonderful if this is just the first of many more like it!
We love box wine on the boat. So much easier to deal with. We will sometimes unbox it and put the pouches into a locker deep in the bilge where it will stay cooler and break down the boxes and store them flat for use when we pull out the pouch for use.
Boxed wine is the best thing to come along since bottled wine. You are so correct about the storage aspect, and on a boat this is just the ticket. Very few people can tell the difference.
Hi, a very good technical demonstration of "camera"; focus, use of depth of field, lighting, and scene transition. But also a particularly appealing presentation, or short clip, on a small part of someone's life. As other comments suggest possibly a good addition to the your TH-cam chapters as an occasional treat for your "watchers" but I imagine the editing time on this post was quite significant. Thank you for the time and effort, bye Duncan
I m in mexico, and just returned from eating, caldo de res, beef broth soup. I was look for broth after visiting the denist; i needed soft food. That i get to my room & magic carpet made a monday video on soup! What a gift of synchronicity.
This may have been the most romantic video of the magic carpet ride so far. So lovely. And the soup! The videography, storytelling, intimacy, relaxed and happy face, all made for a great break from the world news.
Enjoying wine consists not of the vintage but of #1`the company the glasses into which the wine is served. Beautiful glasses makes "vin orinary'' become something special.
Dino is much luckier than he knows. Maya your music talent is incredible and so joyful to watch and listen to. Watching you create that incredible soup your happiness can be seen all over your face. Your a pretty young lady and you have gotten so good making your videos, they are in my top 2 to watch every week. Thank You so much from an old boater in Tacoma Wa.
Far and away the best looking soup ever! I have learned some new tricks with this one! Just another excellent video in every way. Maya, does your talents ever end?
Yummy yum! Excellent chefwomanship! - also enjoyed you making the often maligned parsnip into one of the stars of the show. Thanks for filming this bonus video!
Very instructional but I think you should have told us that cilantro is what some of us call coriander , not everyone’s cup of tea ! Had to look it up although I think I recognised it from the video.
I believe that (in North America), cilantro refers to the leaves and stalks of the plant. The word “cilantro” is the Spanish name for coriander leaves. The dried seeds of the plant are called coriander. I'm pretty sure Magic Carpet has a worldwide audience and (really) shouldn't it be up to the individuals (if they're interested) to check things out, as Mark did. I don't believe anyone can be all things to everyone. I also hope everyone watching is here for the journey and enjoyment of seeing the world via the efforts of Magic Carpet, Aladino and Maya. The spirit of this channel is kindness and I hope everyone is on board with that.
The glass of red wine at about 0:07 juxtaposed with the video title reminded me of the Julia Childs quote "I enjoy cooking with wine. Sometimes, I even put it in the food." I, too, enjoy cooking with wine! And I often put it in the food.
Oh I’m so excited for a new recipe. You know I bake your bread every week almost, I have added many different variations and ingredients, but yours is the best. I cook it in an iron skillet on the stove…
Spectacular. The only (literally) difference between your soup and my soup is that I don’t like having parsnip in the final product. That’s super minor. I would easily compromise on that. Astounding to me how similarly we cook. Guess we doing it right. 😂
Absolutely amazing!!! As a sailor and a home chef, I can totally relate. Use what you have and make it great. I chuckled at the box wine but I completely understand. I watch all of your videos but very seldom comment. This one hits home for me. You two are living the dream and I wish you the best of life!!!
When Magic Carpet uploads a video during the beginning of the week: *A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one* Jokes aside, this episode was a wonderful surprise. Between this and the Crayfish Meat tutorial, I have a suspicion this channel is turning into a Nautical Cooking Channel, or at least a miniseries named “Magic Galley” or something similar. Either way keep making amazing content and keep sailing, -J
@@SailingMagicCarpet I was thinking “Maya’s Magic Galley”, but “Magic Carpet Cooking” works too! Also I never knew boxed wine was a thing before this, but it seems like a great zero-g alternative to bottles for the Sci-Fi I’m worldbuilding. Thanks for opening my eyes to that possibility. Cheers, -J
Maya I'm impressed! Not only is your soup perfection but also you've really done a nice job with your instructions/filming. I'm taking away a few valuable tips too!
I am impressed! I know folks who drink their wine out of jam jars or plastic “glasses” because they worry about breaking a glass. Wine deserves a decent wine glass and Chateau Carton, as box wine is known in the posher suburbs in Australia, tastes better from a glass than bottle wine from a jam jar.
Abundance. What a great inspiration! I'm sitting here, nearly in tears just watching this bounty unfold. I'm a soup lover anyway, but this is a great recipe. Thank you
I'm vegetarian and would have used bouillon cubes and a little more oil. But as a master said, cooking is an art form, the noblest. Regarding boxed wine, I like it but it feels nicer out of the bottle, so I bought a couple of decanters at a flea market which lifts the mood. Merry Christmas!
I've just made your soup and it turned out wonderful! We ate it looking out at Howe Sound in the aftermath of a storm that had the sea looking as if someone had taken an eggbeater to it.
I know you named the boat Magic carpet, but the two of you are the real magic! Looks delicious, even after having just fried up about a kilo of the remaining "Hutspot" we had in the fridge! Love the greek Epifanes t-shirt btw!
Wine does not get better just by filling it into a glas bottle, it just looks nicer. I myself do like the boxed wine for exact the same reasons like you, Maya, and, you always have glas of red wine for cooking at hand.
Another Great episode Maya, I don't know if I could have waited for you to finish that soup as the Broth with the all the fixin's in it looked good enough to eat as it is. But all the extra Love you put into it could clearly be seen in Alidino face when he tasted it. When Maya decides to clone herself, be sure to add me to the top of the Waiting List!!! I also make a Great Boiled Cabbage, with smoked sausage, potatoes, carrots, onions, Caraway Seed, with Horseradish on the side, served with a Pumpernickel bread & butter.
we will make this tonight, it's summer here in argentina but when you love soup, it doesn't matter! we will replace the parsnip with potato and mushrooms with grilled zucchini
Very good Maya. Mouth watering! I too love to cook with wine. Why, sometimes I even put it in the food!. Great tip about putting the chicken into a cold pan. I'll certainly give that a go. Cheers you two. P.S. I'm about to start on the build of my fourth boat. Can't help myself!.
With you on cast wine! especially if you are a solo person at home.. Thankyou for sharing recipe I will try and put in tofu or mushrooms. Good gone is good wine.. !
Actually Maya, sorry yours is way better, just seen the end of the vid!Nice!Ishall emulate in celebration of you both, and your entertaining adventures!Merry Christmas!!
Oh Maya, I am sitting in a hotel with a raging blizzard going on outside and that soup looks sooooo good right now but there is no chance I could make any. However if I could I would add in a few shrimp. Mmmm!

The attention to details and passion he has for the boat tasks she has for music, literature and cooking. What a delight to follow you guys!!!
I think you have discovered the best recipe for life! 1 box of wine, plenty of good food, and lots of love!!!!
You‘ve made my week! An unexpected Monday-Sailing-Magic-Carpet-Cooking-Tutorial, a very, but very very big thank you.

Maya, Thank you, I learned something today, how to make broth, and I was thoroughly entertained in the process.
This was beautifully presented, warm atmosphere, I could imagine all the smells and tastes. Thanks for putting this together.
Box wine is ideal on a boat - does not break , stays fresh , goes far and can be stuffed anywhere .
Enjoying wine consists not of the vintage but of #1`the company the glasses into which the wine is served. Beautiful glasses makes "vin orinary'' become something special.
I love one pot wonders. The broth provides such a good foundation for what follows.
My wife and I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for letting us join you.
Five seconds in and four days late to watch your Winter Soup post, and I love, love, love the letter-box aspect ratio. Yes please, give me more.

Exactly!! Thanks Eric :)
Elegantly simple.
Fun to see another dimension of your amazing creativity.
I can't get enough of you two!
You are so lady like and beautiful and that fella is adorable
Thank you sharing
Far and away the best looking soup ever! I have learned some new tricks with this one! Just another excellent video in every way. Maya, does your talents ever end?
Vegetable killer is so funny looks good great job so relaxing music in the back ground while explaining
Wonderful soup recipe. Maya is such a renaissance woman, multi faceted, beautiful, and tender. Fun episode.

so glad you enjoyed Susan! The parsnip is a WONDERFUL vegetable!!

The most beautiful, emotional, lovely cooking show I've ever seen!
Oh, what a wonderful treat on a cold, wintery day here in the NW to find your beautiful bonus video. Yum!! Excellent job you two!
Thank you that was a treat and I learned somethings. Was great seeing you guys early in the week.
Oh I’m so excited for a new recipe. You know I bake your bread every week almost, I have added many different variations and ingredients, but yours is the best. I cook it in an iron skillet on the stove…
Every week?!!! WOW!!! That makes me SO happy to hear!!

Maya, all I can say is that you are just incredibly talented!
Good bowl of soup on a cold winter day. Can't go wrong.
You got that right! :) Thanks for watching and commenting Joe
I agree with your choice of the boxed wine (for ‘home’ use). As you, Le Crueset is my favorite cookware.
I am originally from Finland, I love soups. Love making them. Love how you feel the goodness soak into your bones as you eat it.
That's great looking soup! I wish I was there to share in the feast.
Lovely cooking. I agree about the skill to cook in small spaces with limited utensils and ingredients.
That was the best soup I I’ve ever pretended to eat.
How warm and comforting this video is!
That was a fun change of pace - no work but much pleasure.
You guys are really living the dream!
That looked absolutely delicious!! I will definitely check out the bread making video! Nice vlog!!!

I've always found that the last half of box wine is totally marvelous just after I've finished the first half.. Hic.

“Vegetable killer”🤭…and the music had a hint of a witches brew…nice one!
Great soup, and as for the wine BC Jackson Triggs Merlot in a box is wonderful
I've just made your soup and it turned out wonderful! We ate it looking out at Howe Sound in the aftermath of a storm that had the sea looking as if someone had taken an eggbeater to it.
I have never seen prunes added to broth before, I will have to try it the next time. Great and very interesting video👍
LOVE THIS!!!!! Yes, more please!!
A truly wonderful video. Thank-you and a Happy New Year. You twos skills are endless.
That soup was crying out for a beer accompaniment. I think I could smell the aroma here on the Chesapeake!
Looks absolutely yummy and hearty 😊 thanks for sharing!
Looking great, especially in that surroundings:)
This was like the Bob Ross of cooking channels. fantastic more like this please. I remember the pot bread episode. that was very good as well.
So delicately made, both course and video. Wonderful. Thanks.
Maya- you are Spielberg, Terintino and so much more.
Fantastic episode! Well done.
Love the video and loved making and eating the soup. A+! Thank you and keep them coming!
Loved your cooking segment!
Some where in the back ground when the vegetables gave all they got. was the ominous sound."vegetable killer"
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to both of you and your Familys
Jupiter! Prunes! Who would have guessed?! But, I now make stove top bread. So, Pruned broth is next on my list. Lovely Cooking video!
I hope you enjoy!! I find they give the broth such a delightful complexity!
I assumed boxed wine would be easier to travel with on a boat too. I also came across a Viking cookbook, and they used prunes in many of their stews.
Box wine. Just learned Jacques Cousteau had a 1,000 liter stainless wine tank made for his Calypso.
Yes, he did. A very French necessity!
