The jake personality is the one who defeated Harrow in the fight. He's all the anger rage and possible survivors instinct of Marc who khonshu may try and use in the future while trying to keep him hidden from Marc and steven
The alter * And yes and no. He definitely has anger and feels strongly about protecting the Marc system, but the rage is still all Marc. Marc always had that revenge rage in him, that’s why Khonshu asked him first. Jake’s their protector and has always been. Khonshu used Jake’s need to protect to get him as his avatar as well.
@@dsfddsgh that's because of the aftercredit. It they didn’t show that fight they needed to reveal Jake in the aftercredit, and that leads to a season 2 developing him. We'll definitely see the fights with him then.
Myself and every other history nerd who watched this show lost our collective minds screaming in excitement the second that Steven said the writing in the tomb was Macedonian. That one word sent chills through my whole body because I knew who was buried in the tomb. I stood up screaming, "Are they really doing this?" and then when he actually said "Alexander the Great" I started crying while screaming, "Oh my god THEY DID THAT!" History nerds really want them to find this tomb for real! This whole show was an absolute ride and the performances were brilliant.
Yesss! I was like, “WAIT!” I mean I know his body was in Alexandria for a long time, kind of a tourist attraction, but after Rome took over and it became a province, we’re kind of unsure what happened to it, so I was psyched! I did hope we’d maybe get some Nefertiti nods or Cleopatra VII, but I’ll take what i can get! 😁
I remember binge watching Moon Knight with my husband last year, when Steven mentioned Macedonian I was like, "Wait! Wait! No way!" lol I was literally bouncing up and down on our couch 🤣
The psych wards scenes in the last three episodes can most definitely be one of the most confusing parts of the show, along with the post credits scene if you are not someone with knowledge of the comics. So, to help you and any other viewer who still doesn't know what was going on during those parts I will elaborate: - the psych ward we see Marc and Steven in are a representation of the afterlife. Taweret, the Egyptian hippo goddess, explained to Marc and Steven that what they were seeing was something that would feel familiar to them. So all the people that were in the psych ward, weren't actually there, they were just constructs of sorts within Marc, Steven and Jake's shared consciousness. - the unopened sarcophagus it showed at the end of episode 4 was Jake Lockely, Marc's 2nd alter that we see in the post credit scene. He is more ruthless out of the 3, and the one who causes Marc and Steven to black out(such as the scenes in episode 1, 2, and 6) - now, this one is just a hunch based off memory, but when the gate of Osiris opened after Marc turned to stone in front of Steven, that was Osiris, the Egyptian god of the deceased himself, opening the gate for Marc and Steven to pass back through to the living and defeat Harrow. -the psych ward scene in the post credits, that was all reality. Harrow was actually in a psych ward after everything that happened in Cairo. And a small thing you didn't notice: - in the final psych ward scene that has Marc and Steven talking with the fake Harrow in his office, you may notice a small accent change in Marc's voice before Steven assumes control. Most people wouldn't notice it at first, but the somewhat Boston accent you hear Oscar Issac use, was to show Jake assuming control. Marc has the typical, normal American accent, Steven has the Cockney British accent, and Jake has the Boston accent.
@@lavalbelanger8532 No problem. I know I sure was a little confused the first time I saw these episodes, but I quickly pieced together what was going on with the information I was given throughout the show.
“As the episodes progress, just more of a realization that Oscar Isaac is incredibly talented.” My exact experience. Seriously can’t believe how talented he is.
As much beef I have with Mark's mom for treating her child like that, I have the exact same amount for his dad. He didn't even attempt to get Mark out of that abusive situation. Having to choose between your wife and child is rough but Mark had no other adult to help him.
Oh yes, I absolutely agree. He should have found help for his wife and in case she refused he should have kept his son safe anyway, away from her. Where the hell was he when she was beating him? He was in the same damn house, what was he doing? No wonder Marc felt safer leaving the house and enrolling in the army as soon as he could.
I absolutely LOVED Moon Knight and Oscar Isaac did SUCH an amazing job and so did Ethan Hawke (who played the bad guy) - he's another STELLAR actor who has been in a lot of great movies. I also think it's awesome how the shows have had a lot of mental health tie-ins. WandaVision explored denial and grief, Moon Knight explored DID and child abuse, Loki evolved out of being narcissistic, etc. It's also cool how between Thor, The Eternals, Black Panther, and now Moon Knight - we've explored Norse, Greek, Mesopotamian, and Egyptian mythology. Marvel hasn't mentioned a season 2 of Moon Knight - but they have started to tease that we'll see him again in Avengers 5 and 6 if not sooner. There is a supernatural team called the "Midnight Sons" that included Moon Knight along with a lot of other magical/supernatural characters such as Wong, Wanda, and Blade that have either already been introduced or soon will be. For whatever reason I can't help but picture Wong and Steven Grant having some hilarious scenes together, I sure hope that happens, it'd be epic. Great stuff buddy, Cheers
This whole show is seriously a masterpiece. the writing, the transitions, Oscar Isaac - all fantastic. They did SO MUCH in the short amount of episodes that they had to work with. Easily my favorite Marvel show. Loki and Wandavision were awesome too, but this is the top for me.
Hey Alex, always love your reactions dude. Jake Lockley is the third personality. He's the one that's been doing the brutal killings everytime Steven/Mark blacked out.
You mentioned that Mark created Steven to take the beatings, but neither remembered them. I think Jake is the one who was there for the beatings, thinking he was a hardcore mobster not talking while being 'tortured' by his mom.
You're right in thinking it was Jake taking the beatings. But the reason for it is that the Jake personality is the "protector" of the three. He's far more ruthless than either Stephen or Marc. Jake protects both other personalities from dangerous situations when he has to. So basically anytime in the show where Stephen or Marc black out and time fast forwards.. that was Jake taking control of the body and the situation at hand. Marc and Stephen can co exist but when Jake takes over, Stephen and Marc "lose time". Also the scene with Oscar Isaac waking up in a hotel room in Cairo.. I believe that was Jake. Also the one scene during the psyche ward interrogation where Oscar Isaac has a broken nose.. or an injury to the bridge of his nose, that is also Jake. Marc and Stephen never have the same injury to their nose
"Marvel Impresses me with these shows!" you must know that these shows are rooted in comic books. As a comic book fan, it is so awesome to finally see some proper live action adaptations of some of the best characters. They used to say that Moon Knight was just Marvel's knockoff Batman, but he is SOOOoooo much more. It is a brilliant portrayal of the character by Oscar Isaac. Can't wait to see a season 2 or some continuation of his story and to see him interact with other heroes in a bigger crossover event.
@@luxurybuzz3681 I didn't say it but it used to be said by others. His Steven Grant "cover" in the comics was similar to Bruce Wayne. He has a pilot named Frenchie which is similar to Bruce's butler Alfred (in that he assists him). He even flew a helicopter shaped like a crescent moon just like Batman had his own shaped like a bat. He also has his own white motorcycle. He throws Crescent moon shaped projectiles and Batman throws Batarangs. Batman is The Dark Knight. He's Moon Knight. He even had an apprentice named Midnight just like Batman had an apprentice named Robin. Batman definitely came first appearing March 30, 1939 whereas Moon Knight didn't appear until 36 years later in 1975. There are a lot of similarities, but when they decided to make Moon Knight suffer from associative identity disorder they definitely took him in a different more interesting direction than the character of Bruce Wayne, in my opinion.
@@Adrian_Lopez_01 look at my response to Luxury Buzz's comment. It's definitely an interesting study to look at which characters are similar between DC and Marvel. I definitely think that Marvel has done a way more exceptional job with the character development than DC. Marvel makes most of their characters relatable in a way versus DC, in my opinion. It wasn't until way later in the comics that they revealed Marc had dissociative identity disorder so in the beginning he did have a lot of similarities with Bruce Wayne/Batman.
the tracks of the third personality, Jake, were always there, and it was one of my strongest theories because of the episode credits footage, and I was impressed when you mentioned that in the first episode, when they recorded Steven looking in the mirror, there were 3 reflexes. Exactly, there were 3 personalities in the same body. In the third episode when Marc is in control and Steven is switching, there's a moment when Marc comes back and everyone's dead, and Steven says it wasn't him, that was Jake. At the end of the fourth episode, when we are in that madhouse in Marc's mind, we find Steven inside a tomb, and in another room there was another locked tomb, red and violent, that was Jake. and in the final scene of the battle when Marc is losing and he just blacks out, when he comes back the bandits are all dead, Jake did that. He is probably all the Anger, Frustration, Hate and feeling of revenge that Marc carried his whole life embodied in an extremely dangerous being. Season two is going to be fire now that we know Konshu still has control over them, and worse, using Jake as his Avatar.
also the girl in the first episode that Steven apparently asked out was probably picked up by Jake Marc has a wife, and Steven is a coward in the beginning, so the only other option is Jake
I cannot express enough how much I loved this show. The psychology of the whole thing, trying to figure out what is “real” and what’s just in Mark/Stephen’s head, it’s just so fascinating. And the acting. Woof… the entire cast just killed this! It’s so easy to focus solely on how good Oscar Isaac is that it’s easy to ignore how amazing Ethan Hawke and Layla’s actor (can’t recall her name) were. Even the side and minor parts are putting on fantastic showings. I really hope we get more Marvel shows and movies of this caliber.
10:15 no they can do it whenever it's just easier with consent/agreement between them. An interesting detail they put in the show is when they involuntarily switche/take over without the other's consent Oscar rolled his eyes back and there's a deeper sound effect. But when the switch is consented there's no eye roll and only a 'bing' sound.
In the scenes where Marc and Steven meet, and Steve hugs Marc, and interact, Oscar’s double is actually his real life brother. He lost weight in preparation for those scenes. It definitely helped Oscar to have a genuine reaction and be able to say those emotional lines to Steven in the sands.
This show was incredible to follow week by week. I did a watchalong with a friend of mine and then we frantically debriefed in the middle of the night after the episodes released (3 AM on the East Coast). What a time to be a Marvel fan that was/is; I had the most amazing time during those 6 weeks.
Alex, this has got to be my favourite Marvel series. How Mohamed Diab's vision of Egyptology and DiD was portrayed by such an amazing group of actors is a testament great film-making. I can't wait for season 2.
I mean, I did ~wonder….~ Their personalities are so different, so their attitude about it, the approach would be different, but it’s… ahem. The same set of tools they’re working with, so. Hm. It does raise a question, that’s all. 🤷🏻♀️😂
Just imagine having to wait a week for every episode where each one left you as confused as before. That said, I loved the series. I only knew Moonknight from a video game. Loved his color, his abilities and his connection to Egypt. So when I heard there was a series I knew I had to watch it. And Oscar just did an amazing job switching characters on the fly.
Nah man, he has 3 personalities but we only got clues to the third one because Mark keeps Jake locked up. Mark is in the middle, Stephen Grant is his good side, but this third guy, Jake, is his ruthless dark side. Remember the third sarcophagus in the mental hospital that they didn’t open and it was shaking with someone trying to get out? That was Jake. He’s the one who came out to play when stuff got really bad, like in the final battle where he blacked out and somehow beat all those guys. We finally got to meet him when he assassinated Arthur.
Dude as someone who LOVES Moonknight, it was so much fun to see you watching it and hearing your interpretation of the plot/characters, I never even noticed the mirror detail until you pointed it out. Your reactions are awesome, thanks for brightening my day ✨️
So from the comics books, Marc Spector initially took on different "covers" to mingle with different social groups. Marc was the main identity that made the deal with Khonshu. As a mercenary he acquired wealth. I think he invested or something and got even richer. He took on the "cover" of Steven Grant as a social elite business man to mingle with that group. He took on another "cover" as Jake Lockley, a cab driver so that he could keep an ear towards the streets to know what was going on with that group. It wasn't until later in the comic books they retconned his background to make these "covers" different personality identities. Admittedly after they did that he became a much more interesting character. In the comics his brother Randall was still alive and became one of his nemesis, using technology to become the Shadow Knight, a darker version of Moon Knight. Since Randall is dead in the show, it would cool perhaps if we do see the Jake Lockley take on the suit it manifests as Shadow Knight's costume instead. And the guy that Layla and Marc went to see where Steven read the parchments to find the star map, died shortly after his part in this show. His character based on the comic book version was meant to be another nemesis know as The Midnight Man. If you ever want to read up on the comic lore of characters just type the name in google with "Marvel" at the end and look for the Marvel.Fandom.Com link. It gives you the whole comic back story.
i heard about the shift in the comics when watching the BTS of this show, and it blew my mind lol. im kind of glad they shifted it away from 'covers' like typical heroes to something much deeper and darker
Moon Knight is my favorite show too, I love Mythology and Psychology it's just full of my favorite things. It was hinted at throughout the show that there was a 3rd person and it wasn't just Mark and Steven which is who we see in the end credits with Jake, which if memory serves I believe he's a bit more of a Psychopath at least the books version? Can't remember for sure though.
Jake took over in the cupcake van, was drinking in the hotel room in Cairo, killed the guys with knives, was in the red sarcophagus that was never opened, beat Harrow, and likely was the persona who took the beatings from Marc’s mother.
When he realized about his mom… I’ve had that dissociation and them snapping back in moment and it is NOT fun. I had to have several procedures not too long after my mother passed, and I’d wake up and wonder why she wasn’t there, even ask for her. Then I’d just start crying, because the only thing that would keep her from me when I needed her was her being dead… so I remembered that she was. It was the most horrible realization. Every time it just smacked me in the face and I grieved all over again. This year I had to do it again and I managed with just looking at the nurse, still kinda out of it, and crying just a little. She asked what was wrong. “I’m sad. Because my Mom is dead. I didn’t know. Now I do. It’s sad.” She agreed with me and got me a tissue. I’m glad I don’t have to have the procedure or go through those emotional rollercoasters, on top of everything else, but man, it sucked. It’s like she died seven times, and she was my best friend. Horrible horrible feeling.
Dude I’m so glad you enjoyed this. It’s one of my favorites too. It’s a complicated fun ride. & there were small Easter eggs of a big bad villain to come. Won’t spoil it for ya though. Enjoy the marvelous ride like we did.
25:03 noooo you were this close to not say it xD You had it a few seconds before 'It’s the first time they embodied each other' that’s much closer to the actual reason why the scale balanced ! Steven had to take ownership of his role and protect Marc for the scale to balance!
Yeah, a lot of people think the scales balanced because Steven "died", but that's not true. They balanced because Steven realized he could/was supposed to protect Marc too
It takes a certain level of actor to portray someone with DID in a way that we can tell when it's one personality or another, and Oscar Issac is that caliber, along with James McAvoy if you haven't seen Split
@@LiMe251 As a system, watching Split freaked me out and caused a lot of hurt to our system. I panicked, and shut everyone out. It took a long time to heal from that (I was in grade six at the time, and although I knew I shared a body with others, I didn't know it was a disorder or a thing that others experienced too
Mark has 3 personalities that we know of-Jake Lockley is the third and evil version you saw at that last scene. Mark is somewhere in the middle, Stephen Grant is his good version. Jake only comes out when things get really bad, like in the beginning of episode 4 in Cairo when Mark thought Steven killed the bad guys attacking him and he asked Steven why he did it and Steven said it was not him (that was Jake who killed them)
Agree about the three, but wouldn't describe Jake as evil. He is the most ruthless and brutal of the three, but he's mostly just very protective of Stephen and Mark.
That whole sequence of him sinking and then being in the psych ward was such a trip when it first came out. The mass confusion was on another level Man episode 5 hits you in the fucken feels man. That “it wasn’t your fault” reminded me so much of Good Will Hunting. God that shit was devastating Layla’s Scarlet Scarab outfit is phenomenal! Ok so just to clear some stuff up: the psych ward stuff all takes place in the Duat, the Egyptian Underworld. The boat being purgatory. Steven and Mark balancing their scales was Mark confronting his trauma and them agreeing to work as a duo rather than stealing control from one another. The scene with blood coming out of Harrow’s sandals represents 1. Harrow’s defeat since he’s no longer this powerful leader (if you can make God bleed people will cease to believe in him -Whiplash, Iron Man 2) and 2. Mark and Steven have settled their differences and confronted trauma so they’ve regained control of their own lives and are no longer “unbalanced” Jake Lockley is a 3rd alter who’s just a straight up assassin. Mark was willing to kill people for Konshu but his character arc has changed that so Konshu needed someone who would kill anyone no questions asked. Shows that Mark still has “chaos inside [him]” and that Konshu wasn’t bullshitting when he asked Mark “you think this body belongs to you?” He’s in control and always has been
Really good point about the Good Will Hunting vibes. My sniff test is, “if someone else was in this situation would blame and guilt them?” If you’d treat them better, then you’re not reacting rationally and need to work on your emotions to get to a place of acceptance. So obviously I was just yelling, “what if another kid’s brother drowned on his watch? Should they be punished forever, horribly?” Like a well-adjusted person. 🙃
Your confusion is understandable. The Asylum was all in his dream state. Him battling with his mind and seeing the characters he actually knows in the real world be inmates/workers at the Asylum. We mainly followed the real him up until that moment. You may have noticed a couple of times throughout the show where they both seemed confused how they got out of a situation that caused a lot of death and destruction. That was Jake. Anyway, thank you for watching this show, it has reminded me how impeccable it is. Oscar Isaac is off the charts, literally one of my favourite actors even before this show. As a South East English person, he absolutely nails the accent. I just feel like I would walk into that character into the street and not think twice, brillaint. You can tell they put a lot of love into this show.
Moon Knight & Loki are my favorite 2 Marvel shows. I think it's because I love psychology & different mythologies. Egyptian being one of my favorites. Plus as you mentioned their more realistic portrayal of dissociative identity disorder was very well done. I believe there is supposed to be a season 2. I cannot wait!! Your confusion trying to keep up with this show was totally me!! I loved it though!!
Moon knight really was an incredible show. I loved every second of it, even if it wasn't as fast paced as other things. You gotta set it up properly, and I feel they did
I've never been so hooked to such a confusing storyline... Moon Knight comes in 2nd place for after Loki... but it's still such an amazing show! Jake Lockley's appearance was honestly one of the greatest cliffhangers ever! It's like the show ends when it's about to begin.... I just love it...
Oscar Isaac is no stranger to the deserts of Jordan. That’s where he filmed Star Wars and Dune. Oscar got his real-life brother on the show as a stand-in. When Oscar was portraying Marc, his brother would portray Steven and vice versa. Then the special effects team worked their magic. During the holiday season, I got my sister to finish watching the show. I especially wanted her to watch episode 5 because I wanted her input about the show’s take on mental health. It sparked a conversation that went on for about half an hour. We talked about mental health in general because we both deal with our own struggles and know people who also struggle. She also helped me clarify who Marc was talking to when he said “I won’t give you that satisfaction.” I figured he was saying that to his father Elias because the latter wanted his son to grieve with him, but my sister said it made more sense he would be saying that to his mom Wendy. The reason why I say Marc was saying that to Elias was because even though he didn’t take part in the abuse the fact that he didn’t do anything about it makes him just as responsible as Wendy for the DID which to my understanding serves as a response to trauma or a coping mechanism. Oscar did a lot of research going into this show. He revealed in the Assembled episode of this show that he read a book called A Fractured Mind by Robert Oxnam. The author revealed in the book that he had eight alters living with him that he didn’t know about until he was in his 40’s. Regarding episode 6, they didn’t say it but Layla’s codename when she’s in her superhero costume is the Scarlet Scarab. Mohamed Diab’s daughter wanted to change her hairstyle because she didn’t see anyone in major media who looked like her, but now she’s proud to have her hairstyle after seeing Layla become the Scarlet Scarab. Imagine if Layla met Wanda and Sam. Scarlet Scarab meets the Scarlet Witch and gives Cap a flight for his money. And lastly, Oscar comes from a Guatemalan family. So when I saw him speaking Spanish as Jake, I freaked out with excitement and laughter because my parents are from Quetzaltenango which is in Southwestern Guatemala.
So glad you loved this show!! Moon Knight is also my favourite Disney+ Marvel show. I think in terms of some of the stuff you’re still confused on, I think if you rewatch the show that will clear a lot of things up for you. It’s a great rewatch and you notice a lot more stuff including a lot of foreshadowing. For example. Jake actually shows up at least a few times in earlier episodes, we just don’t know it’s him at the time. But there’s a hunch of things like that which will make way more sense if you rewatch it
There technically wasn't supposed to be a season 2, because of the awards they applied for, it was for a one season show, completed with no other shows, but at the last minute, they "announced" a season 2 on social media. -There were always three identities. Marc was the original, with Steven being the mind who took him away from all of his troubles and believed everything was just fine and dandy and Jake was the killer and ladies man. He was the one when there needed to be a death, he would take over and neither would know. They hinted at him all throughout the show. Whenever someone got killed, it was Jake. In the psych ward, that red sarcophagus, Jake. When he was in the Drs office at the psych ward with the bruised and bloodied face and the Boston accent, Jake. The one who asked the girl out on the date he missed in the beginning, Jake. They showed him continuously. -His wife became the Scarlet Scarab, another marvel character, BUT in the comics it was her "Dad". Technically, I think the comic character didn't have a daughter, but same name. -When Marc dies, he is in the ancestral plane, like the Black Panther, which they reference.
These reactions made me realize how many times they hint at Jake Lockley. A majority of those moments I totally missed. For example, in the first episode Steven blacks out and kills a bunch of people with the golden scarab. The first time around I definitely thought that was Mark, but it was really Jake
Also again in Egypt when Marc and Stephan both say it wasn't them that killed those guys. And the third sarcophagus when they're in the hallways on the Duat.
Man I have LOVED your reactions to Moonknight 😂😂 This is making me laugh so hard, the editing is hilarious and your comments are too. I’m so glad you loved this show, it’s absolutely one of my all time favorites! And Oscar Isaac is INCREDIBLE
Jake was also alluded to earlier in the season when Marc wakes up to himself stabbing one of those young guys in Egypt and says something like “Stephen, what’d u do?” and Stephen replies “that wasn’t me” I believe that was the first inkling they gave that their was more than just the two identities..
It's a little different if you've spent your life reading comics and already know that Moon Knight had three identities from the beginning. The little clues they were building came across to me like huge billboards lit up with obvious answers. The end credit scene with Jake Lockley was required, or I was going to be so frustrated to have to wait for another season to get him in the show.

Not because they died for each other, but because they accepted each other in full
Just by watching this Reaction i'm already in the mood for watching Moon Knight ALL OVER again for the 4th time lmao...it was Great seeing your reaction to it and i'm happy you enjoyed it as much as The rest of us!! This is one of my favorite Marvel D+ Shows if not My Favorite along Loki and one of my favorite things in The ENTIRE MCU as a whole. Oscar Isaac is fantastic and everything in this show is so Beautiful. It's not perfect but tbh no show is perfect so it's a solid 9.5/10 for me (ok maybe 9/10 i just love this show so much it's difficult to not Fanboy over it lol). love y'all, keep it up dude you are the GOAT 🤍
Moon Knights my favourite too! And yeah, as someone with DID (what Marc has) this show really is something I never thought I'd see. How they use DID in the cinematography? The storytelling? Fucking beautiful Absolutely my favourite marvel show alongside Loki One of my favourite shows of all time even
In my opinion, Jungian psychology really helps explaining the concept of the show. Mark represents the ego, the conscious awareness of the person and the default state of being. Steven is the unconscious or "shadow", primarily everything that our ego relegated as insignificant yet gives the capability to "survive" the external world by providing perspective and wisdom. Jake is the super ego; the "nuclear option" if the other sides of the personality can't handle whatever situation there in which was explicitly shown throughout the series whenever Mark or Steven blackouts then a bloody trail is revealed after it. Since he's has DID, his mind is fragmented that develop into personalities of their own instead of a cohesive, yet unintegrated personality which is the norm. Moon Knight and Mr. Knight represents the subconscious; when a person aspires to be better themselves and can tolerate their primal fears and gain courage allowing them to "thrive". Since their fragmented, what remains to be seen is what Jake Lockley's "aspiration" looks like, maybe for season two.
Marc was the real person, Stephen was his happy place. But Jake is who he was when his mom beat him. Filled with nothing but rage and the urge to kill. That’s the guy who fights in Egypt before the kid jumped off the cliff, and the one who wins the fight against Harrow. But it’s also why the show jumps ahead, because this is Marc and Stephen’s story. They aren’t even aware of Jake. But Khonshu has been the entire time.
i believe the whole psych ward thing is in his mind, that’s why when harrow called stevens mom he didn’t want him to .. he was still in denial of his mama being gone, but then when he got the phone he accepted it.
Yeah. And in a real therapy situation they would NOT confront such a rock solid delusion with really hard realities like that. It can do way more damage than good. Working through the emotional blockade that triggered the delusion? Yes. Then slowly progressing toward what actually happened, what fact they remember? Sure, in time. Dumping ice cold water on someone who’s just been freaking out is not therapeutic! If anything it makes the patient regress, and it shreds the trust built up by the care provider. I was so happy it wasn’t REAL, because that would be legit terrible practice.
The part of the show where he is in the psych ward he is in something similar to purgatory. He actually did die when he was shot in the tomb. He is surrounded by people he knows and people he has killed which is why every time he went into a room it was a memory. In order to balance his scales he had to go back through his memories to reveal the truth to Steven. Once Steven went overboard, the scale’s finally balanced so that he go into the field of reeds. At the end when Marc killed the guy with glass in his shoe they show him also in purgatory but this time he’s getting killed by Marc’s 3rd alter Jake Lockley. Hope this explanation helped !
You know, you should watch New Rockstars' breakdown of this series. He explains the events pretty well. There are so many Easter eggs which are missed my majority of the people watching, Erik Voss and team find them all!
I figure whenever you see blood... Jake is on the scene, kicking ass & taking names; Steven is the awkward/funny Brit; and Marc is the cool/laid-back level-headed one.
Now you know why I kept saying how excited I was for you to get to a MoonKnight. This, and Werewolf by Night are my top two favorite Disney plus Marvel content to come out. The other shows are all good but this one, there’s no one who can act better than Oscar Isaac here, he’s the real deal. They have a Making Of documentary on all the behind the scenes stuff and commentary on the show on Disney plus if your interested in that. Doesn’t have to be a separate reaction but judging by how impressed you were I know you’d love it. By the way, the end, IS really confusing, still, to me too. The only thing I’m certain of is that one, it couldn’t have been a dream; and two, they know about each other now and are apparently living in harmony with each other. I think the end credit was done really well, the whole show we don’t even get one glimpse of “Jake” the mysterious third alter until the very end. At the time all I wanted was one scene proving he actually existed and that they planned on including him in the show, but when he finally came, it was at the end killing the villian. A very satisfying ending. In fact, this is the only show that I have been completely satisfied with an ending ( talking Marvel). Was I a bit confused? Hell yeah. Do I care? Not really, for once it really doesn’t matter. Season 2 of Loki will NOT crush this for me, at least I’m 90 percent sure MoonKnight will stay on top of my rank for a very long time. Awesome reaction man, made my day when I finally got the chance to sit down and watch. 😄
"I don't know what's real or fake" - That's because it is exactly the main basis of Moon Knight in the comics. He constantly question his existence and faith towards Khonshu whether it's delusional or a reality.
What i absolutely loved about Episode 5 is that you understand his thoughts and emotions but not necessarily the plot. That's how it always is in our mind. You feel things out of order. Also it might help if you think of it like this: - the whole psych ward was real, just inside a different dimension called the Duat (Egyptian's afterlife). It was the inside of the boat. Tawaret (the hippo) said the boat takes the form that is most familiar to a soul, and to Marc, it's the psych ward. - each room at the psych ward represents core memories. Cafe with dead bodies, Marc's childhood home, Marc on her mother's funeral, Steven altering the sky with Khonshu, etc. Those are 'real', all are fluid, happening in the Duat (afterlife). - the only thing that isn't real was the consultation with Dr. Harrow in his office. That's the only thing happening in their head. Dr. Harrow represents Marc and Steven's voice of reason/psychologist. They met Dr. Harrow each time they were under panic attack.
You know Steven is a true Englishman when his first act on finding a lost tomb is to desecrate the hell out of it...
lmaooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

THIS IS ONE OF THE FUNNIEST THINGS I'VE SEEN ANYONE SAY ABOUT THIS SHOW
@@rebeccawhite2155 Thankew
The jake personality is the one who defeated Harrow in the fight. He's all the anger rage and possible survivors instinct of Marc who khonshu may try and use in the future while trying to keep him hidden from Marc and steven
Would have been nice if they showed the fight for once when Jake takes over instead of glossing over it.
The alter *
And yes and no.
Is jake separated from Marc's body? ...
@@jaypenhypenjay3654 Jake is a 3rd personality inside of Marc
How this show didn't win any awards or nominations are beyond me
Yup. Oscar Isaac easily deserved every acting award for the year. I have no more faith in those obviously oblivious institutions now.
i agree
it's a masterpiece
Not really. Aside from episode 5 this show was mid at best.

Exactly, same! The moment Steven said 'It's in Macedonian' I was like 'ooooh it can only be one person!'
I remember binge watching Moon Knight with my husband last year, when Steven mentioned Macedonian I was like, "Wait! Wait! No way!" lol I was literally bouncing up and down on our couch 🤣
Conversely, as someone who studied the Ptolemies, I rolled my eyes at the simplicity of forgetting an entire Macedonian dynasty.
The psych wards scenes in the last three episodes can most definitely be one of the most confusing parts of the show, along with the post credits scene if you are not someone with knowledge of the comics. So, to help you and any other viewer who still doesn't know what was going on during those parts I will elaborate:
- the psych ward we see Marc and Steven in are a representation of the afterlife.
He is more ruthless out of the 3, and the one who causes Marc and Steven to black out(such as the scenes in episode 1, 2, and 6)
- now, this one is just a hunch based off memory, but when the gate of Osiris opened after Marc turned to stone in front of Steven, that was Osiris, the Egyptian god of the deceased himself, opening the gate for Marc and Steven to pass back through to the living and defeat Harrow.
-the psych ward scene in the post credits, that was all reality. Harrow was actually in a psych ward after everything that happened in Cairo.
And a small thing you didn't notice:
- in the final psych ward scene that has Marc and Steven talking with the fake Harrow in his office, you may notice a small accent change in Marc's voice before Steven assumes control. Most people wouldn't notice it at first, but the somewhat Boston accent you hear Oscar Issac use, was to show Jake assuming control. Marc has the typical, normal American accent, Steven has the Cockney British accent, and Jake has the Boston accent.
Thank you so much for explaining !
I was as confused as Alex haha
@@lavalbelanger8532 No problem. I know I sure was a little confused the first time I saw these episodes, but I quickly pieced together what was going on with the information I was given throughout the show.
Jake in the final scene didn’t seem to have a Boston accent though. In fact, wasnt he speaking Spanish at the post credit scene?
@@ajarmand5762 It's supposed to be a New York accent. Maybe he picked up the Spanish accent there as well ? 🤔🤷
@@ajarmand5762 The fact that Jake speaks Spanish is to honor Oscar Isaac 's Spanish roots
That moment when Mark hugged Steven so touching. Watching him accepting his another part.
“As the episodes progress, just more of a realization that Oscar Isaac is incredibly talented.”
My exact experience. Seriously can’t believe how talented he is.
watch orphan black - that is an incredible actress , plays 7 parts , not 2
As much beef I have with Mark's mom for treating her child like that, I have the exact same amount for his dad. He didn't even attempt to get Mark out of that abusive situation. Having to choose between your wife and child is rough but Mark had no other adult to help him.
1000%
His Dad is shiate.
He was too busy being a victim to help his son not be one. He's a bad father and a coward.
Your mum and dad they fuck you up. Quote from a favourite poem.
Great stuff buddy,
Cheers
I search for your comments in the videos all the time. You’re a badass!
🙃🙃🙃
Moonknight deserves to have a stand alone movie
I almost passed out laughing from you saying,
"I know I should know him but I dont" then all the head slaps! Lmao
@@tphil5901 Jake was also the one who asked out the girl in ep 1. Marc has a wife and Steven never would have.
If you were to rewatch the show knowing about the third personality, Jake Lockley, a lot of what happens during Marc’s blackouts makes more sense
It is pure vindication for me to prove to all the people that made fun of me for reading comic books when I was a kid/young adult
How is moonknight like batman?
I wonder why people say that Moonknight is a knockoff of Batman.
Season two is going to be fire now that we know Konshu still has control over them, and worse, using Jake as his Avatar.
also the girl in the first episode that Steven apparently asked out was probably picked up by Jake
Marc has a wife, and Steven is a coward in the beginning, so the only other option is Jake
@@Mate_Antal_Zoltan woow!! I had never thougt of that, it's true!
@@Mate_Antal_ZoltanDidn't Marc say he did that to throw Steven a bone?
@@Kjf365 I don't recall that. And again, Marc has a wife and he's too cold and calculated to take a risk like that
I cannot express enough how much I loved this show.
As someone with DID I think this show did a great job with the feeling of confusion. Your reactions are awesome man, hope you love Hawaii

"is sex with mark different than sex with Steven?" You can always count on Alex to ask the important questions 😂😂😂
Your reactions are awesome, thanks for brightening my day ✨️
I found this channel only ten days ago, and already now have watched all your mcu and Marvel reactions. Absolutely great reactions. Enjoy every video.
The editing on this reaction is next level... so much fun... thank you!! xx
Jake took over in the cupcake van, was drinking in the hotel room in Cairo, killed the guys with knives, was in the red sarcophagus that was never opened, beat Harrow, and likely was the persona who took the beatings from Marc’s mother.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching you be as constantly confused as my daughter and I were watching this show 😆
We also ended up loving it.
What's also cool, was in some shots with both Marc and Steven present and one of their faces obscured, Oscar's real life brother stood in.
That is pretty cool.
I love it when Alex starts dodging with the character 😂
Moonknight is a bit of a breath of fresh air from the usual stuff Marvel makes.
So good. 😊
Dude I’m so glad you enjoyed this. It’s one of my favorites too. It’s a complicated fun ride. & there were small Easter eggs of a big bad villain to come. Won’t spoil it for ya though. Enjoy the marvelous ride like we did.
25:03 noooo you were this close to not say it xD
You had it a few seconds before 'It’s the first time they embodied each other' that’s much closer to the actual reason why the scale balanced ! Steven had to take ownership of his role and protect Marc for the scale to balance!
Yeah, a lot of people think the scales balanced because Steven "died", but that's not true. They balanced because Steven realized he could/was supposed to protect Marc too
Lol looks like the Superman disguise would work on you. Also I really enjoyed your reaction to the series, it was fun!
"My dude is elbow-deep in Alexander" ... I am not about to forget this sentence anytime soon!!!
It takes a certain level of actor to portray someone with DID in a way that we can tell when it's one personality or another, and Oscar Issac is that caliber, along with James McAvoy if you haven't seen Split
Toni Collette also nailed her portrayal of someone with DID in United States of Tara.
Well Split isn't that great of a representation of DID
@@LiMe251 True, but that was more of a writing thing than McAvoy's acting
@@LiMe251 As a system, watching Split freaked me out and caused a lot of hurt to our system. I panicked, and shut everyone out. It took a long time to heal from that (I was in grade six at the time, and although I knew I shared a body with others, I didn't know it was a disorder or a thing that others experienced too
Moon Knight has become my favorite show ever. It even brought me to get some of the comics and I never knew about this character until the show.
@@valaport yeah, you are right. brutal is a better word.
Jake is the prosecutor alter which usually will deal out trauma in response to the trauma the system once experienced in order to protect it.
That whole sequence of him sinking and then being in the psych ward was such a trip when it first came out. The mass confusion was on another level
Man episode 5 hits you in the fucken feels man. That “it wasn’t your fault” reminded me so much of Good Will Hunting. God that shit was devastating
Layla’s Scarlet Scarab outfit is phenomenal!
Mark and Steven have settled their differences and confronted trauma so they’ve regained control of their own lives and are no longer “unbalanced”
Jake Lockley is a 3rd alter who’s just a straight up assassin.
They’re doing season two!
Moon knight really was an incredible show. I loved every second of it, even if it wasn't as fast paced as other things. You gotta set it up properly, and I feel they did
Love how this story isn’t even confusing. Like it explains most stuff pretty well.
It was like Inception, but even more trippy. O_o
But there’s a hunch of things like that which will make way more sense if you rewatch it
Thank you for all your reactions
My pleasure ❤

I BAWLED my eyes out in episode 5, it was heartbreaking
Your editors deserve some kind of award for some of the interstitial work they are doing here.
These reactions made me realize how many times they hint at Jake Lockley. A majority of those moments I totally missed. For example, in the first episode Steven blacks out and kills a bunch of people with the golden scarab. The first time around I definitely thought that was Mark, but it was really Jake
also Jake was in the second sarcophagus they came across in the psychiatric hospital when he died that they never opened
Also again in Egypt when Marc and Stephan both say it wasn't them that killed those guys. And the third sarcophagus when they're in the hallways on the Duat.
It's probably Jake who asked Dylan the lady tour guide too. And in metaphors and imagery there's a lot more, everything is in 3 in the show.
The Egyptian Rooftop scene where everyone's dead and Steven blames Mark, who proclaims it wasn't him.
@@Galaxia7 Good point; Marc is way still too hung up on Layla to go out picking up ladies.

Jake was also alluded to earlier in the season when Marc wakes up to himself stabbing one of those young guys in Egypt and says something like “Stephen, what’d u do?” and Stephen replies “that wasn’t me” I believe that was the first inkling they gave that their was more than just the two identities..
YES. I've been waiting for you to get to this, wondering how you would react. Some of this was tough.
I love whenever Alex gets Scared with the smallest Jumpscare 😭

Oscar Isaac is fantastic and everything in this show is so Beautiful. It's not perfect but tbh no show is perfect so it's a solid 9.5/10 for me
(ok maybe 9/10 i just love this show so much it's difficult to not Fanboy over it lol).
love y'all, keep it up dude you are the GOAT 🤍
26:48 I can’t help but feel that Oscar can say those lines with such emotion because he’s speaking his lines to his real life brother.
The Egyptian hero but was more about representation than anything!! Which was pretty cool to see in a universe filled with American based superheros
Moon Knights my favourite too! And yeah, as someone with DID (what Marc has) this show really is something I never thought I'd see. How they use DID in the cinematography? The storytelling? Fucking beautiful
Absolutely my favourite marvel show alongside Loki
One of my favourite shows of all time even
The spy shirt is because we are "travelers of the night"
13:15 you know our reactions which I absolutely love about you man. Shine bright like a diamond 🥲
Your reactions are very enjoyable
13:43 Lauging with everyone else watching. Yeah, Alex. Thank you, Everyman.
i believe the whole psych ward thing is in his mind, that’s why when harrow called stevens mom he didn’t want him to .. he was still in denial of his mama being gone, but then when he got the phone he accepted it.
Remember the scene where they had the unopened Egyptian tomb in the part with Taweret? That's the 3rd character in Marc's head...Jake Lockley.
"My dude is elbow deep in Alexander right now." Not the first guy to...
this was so exciting to watch you react to it! it was also my favourite series because i loved it so much
I love that Moonknight is your fav MCU show but it seems like you have no idea whats going on lmao
Jake is Khonshu's assassin. He keeps him hidden from Mark and Steven. So confusing LMAO, but you did well taking it all in.
I figure whenever you see blood... Jake is on the scene, kicking ass & taking names; Steven is the awkward/funny Brit; and Marc is the cool/laid-back level-headed one.
Moonknight: white turtleneck to black turtleneck.
You're too funny with the confusion!
"I don't know what's real or fake"
- That's because it is exactly the main basis of Moon Knight in the comics. He constantly question his existence and faith towards Khonshu whether it's delusional or a reality.
8:05 well... I for one held a book review about said Pharaoh in school... when I was about... 12 years old. So there is that.
What i absolutely loved about Episode 5 is that you understand his thoughts and emotions but not necessarily the plot. That's how it always is in our mind. You feel things out of order.
Also it might help if you think of it like this:
- the whole psych ward was real, just inside a different dimension called the Duat (Egyptian's afterlife).
7:56 His Archeologist self is about to have a wet dream - Alex 2023
That made me laugh out 🤣
Marc was balanced because he is. Jake is the dark Steven the light. Took me 2nd time - here - to understand that.
Fantastic reaction mate 💯👍👍loved this series 💯❤️🇬🇧🤘🤘
Yessss! I agree, this became my favorite Marvel show by the end of it. I knew you’d love it!
My man is so bamboozled😂😂😂😂😂
