You can check for mites by placing white paper under a plant’s leaf, tapping the leaf, then swiping your hand on the paper. Mites will leave little red smears on the paper.

I freaking ADORE my hoya serpens!! Those teeny tiny fuzzy new leaves are so stinking cute 🥺 Mine was a little smaller than yours when I bought it a year ago and I just repotted it into a 4 inch pot last month. In my own experience, I found that it really responds well to high light and high water. My ambient humidity in my house is anywhere from 30-60% depending on the time of year and it has been very adaptive. I treat it similarly to my hoya linearis and hoya bella, and it is covered in peduncles and new growth.

Nice video! Love the hoya serpens. I wouldn't repot it yet, keep fertilizing it, see how it goes. (The white part of the variegated plants- ref Florida beauty - tend to get brown because that part of the leaf doesn't photosynthesize so the plant will stop feeding it sooner or later. )

Definitely waiting on my girl fern to make a Hoya/flat mite vid!!! After watching Betsy’s, Knot Dude’s and Sir Plants a Lots’, I did the warm water bath and uhhh killed my Hoyas. So. I’m devastated. 😅 But Im so hoping to see an upcoming video of yours regarding your Hoyas, the flat mites, using your microscope, and treatments! ❤
No wayyyy!! Omg lol! I inspected mine under a microscope and couldn’t find ANY - which was very surprising to me. I need to bust it out again and give everyone a better inspection 👀
fern, sorry if i missed it, but did you share an update about foliar fertilizer results on your hoya with the diluted fertilizer (in place of the miracle grow small bottle foliar spray)?
I also use osmocote. I have the same plant, but it is outsidedoor and IT have a very good grow! Thank you for your efort to show us everything you do to your plants!
String of spades?! I didn’t know that was a thing! I didn’t reply my string of hearts after I bought it, and I didn’t know how root hound it was! You are so lucky to live where there is good tap water! I live near Los Angeles and we get very hard water from the Colorado river. As I result, I use distilled water for any indoor plants. Love your videos!
Hey Fern 😊 Love your chill Day in the Life, chores videos! Where do you get your small moss poles? I can only ever find the big ones. If you have a US link that would be great! Thanks and can't wait for the next one!

I got my string of hearts about a month ago, and mine has blooms and it’s still growing very well. Have you actually seen it grow faster or better after snipping the blooms off? Ty!!
Osmocote is wonderful but it is activated by heat I'm not sure what temperature it is activated by. So there's a chance that it will not work during the winter.
Sorry for a late response 💚 my hoya serpens just hangs out in the west facing window (scotland 🏴) so the light is not always great. Honestly I don't do much and it just multiplies on it own 🤷🏽♀️🐍 even flowered so many times this year. Apparently they seem to like cooler temperatures if that helps! I think they originated in himalayas so they are sturdy little plants 🐍🌱
I bought 15 Bakeri berries, not knowing that they each contain 2 seeds. And of course they all germinated and yes, they grow like crazy. No idea what I’ll do with them.
Anthurium bakerii is notorious for self pollinating! Mine has self pollinated like 3 times now. Yours will probably do it pretty soon, too. They’re so much fhn
Hii just a quick Q! What do you do with your old soil? Im currently filtering the mix and boiling perlite, bark and leca but dont know what to do with the rest of old soil. Any ideas?
I just got the same PUR faucet filter as you and I'm literally using the filtered water into a Brita jug to get filtered again because my city (Windsor, Ontario) has such hard water. Are you not watering your plants with the filtered side because your city has soft water? Thanks for the vid 8)
Hey!! Yes here in Victoria we have really great water quality, luckily! I usually use it for my more fussy plants (terrarium begonia, etc) and sometimes for all of them. It just takes longer so it depends haha. Right now it’s flashing orange so I need to change the filter before I can use it again :)
Always love your videos! Full disclosure, you seem a little overwhelmed or burnt out on your collection lately. Maybe it’s time to downsize a bit? I’ve had to downsize recently. I’m trying to observe which plants I actually enjoy keeping, and which ones I simply keep just to keep.
Fernnn!!! I need help, I’m in Florida and winter is coming up? Should I take my inside plants in?? Edit: HELP. MY ALOACASIA BLACK VELVET JUST CAME IN AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IM DOING
You might be OK leaving plants out except on cold or frosty nights. I'm in NC and leave my cacti and succulents on the porch year round except when it's going to be really cold, and you'd probably be fine to leave yours outside except on nights when it's too cold. Anything you do bring inside, I would isolate from any houseplants and/or spray with a pesticide in case of bugs.
I sold my house and when I visited the new owner chopped down all the landscaping which included the 50 year old hedge, a magnolia tree, also a tree that grew pink flowers, they also got the backyard tree that gave tons of shade and a cherry tree I planted that was about 17 feet tall. they ripped out the giant succulant and all the shrubs I planted too. They DID leave the 2 dwarf lemon trees I planted which were about 14ft tall so, that was nice :) I know, I shouldn't complain because it's not my house anymore but why would someone destroy landscaping? I guess they wanted to lower their property value. end rant
I'm so freaking excited to see the haul! Ps I know you've had your hair like that for a minute but I wanted to say how much I love the blonde pieces in your hair, it looks so cute on you 💜

Mites fall off that easy!? 🤢🤢🤢
Maybe they meant tap the bottom of the leaf with the paper
If it's the hoya mites she's referring too (different to regular spidermites), those are extremely small and I think would be hard to see on paper
